We booked there for the long weekend of the 14th of July (2 nights).

The reception was full of trainees and the only senior manager that did not even dare to welcome us.

2 trainees spent more than 15 minutes to give me my key (even if everything was already paid).

First night was ok. The breakfast was not really good. Awful coffee and orange juice was really bitter.

For unexpected reasons, the second night we had to pick up our son earlier and we ask the reception if we had to pay something for this unexpected event, and then the problems started.

They were completely unable to answer positively to our request and were more worried on the extra fees they will charge us, then no supervisor there to take a decision and at last told us that it was not possible (not really clear why). Let's be clear we were not claiming a bigger room... we were the ones that will have to share the bed with our 6 year old son!

After more than 20 minutes of arguing - and as it was already late - we had no other option than leave the hotel and get back home with two small children (2 and 6 year old) in the middle of the night with very bad weather conditions - and of course we got no refund proposal!!

In my opinion, there is so many hotels around there that it is not worth having a so bad experience going to a hotel that does not care at all about their customers (and their security)

We booked 2 double rooms, one with balcony. When we arrived it transpires they do not have rooms with balconies, only ground floor rooms with a terrace. The rooms were spotlessly clean, and airconditioned although we could not change the settings to our liking.
There were a number of minor irritations which marred our enjoyment. We found it very strange there were no toilet roll holders in the bathrooms! (toilet rolls were on the floor!) One of the rooms we used, there was no shower curtain/divide, with the result that the entire bathroom got soaked, and we had to ask for a plug for the washbasin, to which the reception staff responded incredulously (not sure whether it was the request or the fact the plug was missing which surprised them,)and finally produced one which did not fit properly, with the result that as soon as as there was more than a glassful of water in the basin, the plug popped out. We also had to ask for the terrace to be swept as it was full of dead leaves, and for the sun loungers to be wiped clean. This was August, high season. The restaurant was hopeless. Saturday night, high season and they could offer only a 3-course set meal at €25 with 2 choices of main course- "catch of the day" or kangeroo steak! Their suggested alternative was to eat at the self-service snack bar.

  • Liked — the cleanliness of the rooms
  • Disliked — not being able to regulate the air-con

You must have a car to stay here as there are no walkable roads nearby - and it helps you speed away afterwards! Whole place was reminiscent of an 1980s holiday camp, but our apartment was truly terrible. The living area reeked of curry, there was a painted over damp patch on the ceiling, damp alongside the fridge, skirting board ripped off in the toilet - and we discovered late at night that the door didn't lock properly. When we complained we were told to come back after 8am tomorrow! Had to sleep with a table against the door. Also in September the place was pretty much shut down and no shops were open and the restaurant was closed before 9pm. Truly terrible accommodation and customer service.

This hotel is basically designed for the needs of a business person. I would compare the room to a Uk travelinn/travelodge. After staying for one week, I would value one of my nights stay in a family room at £60-£70 per night maximum. This is taking into account the location and the season. A french traveller may value it higher, based on the swimming pool, restaurant, bar and kids club. These were of no use to us, as hotel is 100% french and language/socialising was a major problem. Our daily rate worked out at £140 per night. This did not include breakfast, which was approx £22 per day for 2 adults and 1 child.( There is however a mcdonalds nearby that serves a delicious brekky for approx £8). Each room also includes a rip-off mini bar. This is obviously intended for the business person with a juicy expense account. Prices started at around £2.80 for a can of coke. The room also has no tea or coffee making facilities, or a normal fridge. Everything is designed to rinse that expense account!

Tv lovers beware also. Each room has rubbish french TV, and the hotel reception has rubbish french tv.

To conclude; only go to les alberes if if you are a)french or b) a business man with a fat expense account.

PS The rooms do look a bit tired.

  • Liked — The car parking.
  • Disliked — No Tea/ coffee/fridge
  • Tips/Secrets: — Brekky at mcdonalds/carrefour. Sneak into La sirene/hippocampe for entertainment at night. Difficult to use their pools unless you can get an old wristband off someone. Plage nord beach is good, and has free parking.
