Given that the hotel was booked full the night we dined at Le 5, perhaps the staff was overwhelmed. Indeed, there was a wait for a table, which was hardly unexpected and by no means unwelcome given that it allowed for a drink at the bar. However, the bar area was overrun with used glasses, plates, and accoutrements, creating a less-than-appealing environment. That stated, the staff genuinely tried to be friendly despite appearing stretched thin.
Upon getting our table, we considered the buffet but quickly decided against it after previewing. The fare was hardly enticing and the buffet itself was a mess with the food looking quite tired, so we opted for the fish and chips. (One would be well advised to view the buffet before choosing it.)
The fish and chips arrived at our table at the same time as our soup, so was sent back to be kept warm. When it arrived again, we laughed because it looked like nothing more than Van de Kamp's or Mrs. Paul's frozen fish - each exactly the same size and shape - and disappointing taste of reconstituted fish. We noticed two other tables that vehemently expressed their disapproval with their dinner - one fellow becoming so frustrated that he twice marched himself into the kitchen.
We decided to enjoy the laugh at paying premium prices for Van de Kamp's but then had to wait for a staff meeting to get our check. (It also explained the frustration of an elderly gentlemen whom we saw upon entering who was insisting the maître d’ personally retrieve and process his bill.)
The next morning provided an appropriate coda in that we received a telephone call inquiring whether we had ordered breakfast. (We had.) We then received someone else's breakfast order. (Tomatoes with balsamic vinegar is not what we had hoped for at 6:15 a.m.) Given that the food arrived over thirty minutes late and we had a plane to catch, we decided to forgo any attempt to correct the matter.
