“The Pheasant Hotel, Kelling”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2013

This hotel is under new ownership, and they have spent a fortune on upgrading all the bedrooms, which are all of good size and beautifully appointed. The dining room was just about to receive a new carpet when we were there, and work was still continuing in the grounds, though there was no intrusive noise. The meals were very good, with plenty of choice and nearly always well prepared and nicely served. The hotel is quiet, set well back from the coast road, and is ideally situated for birdwatchers and walkers. There is a comfortable bar and lounge. There is no doubt that some of the character of the old house has been sacrificed, but it was worth it: after previous stays we could not have recommended the hotel: now we certainly can.

Had a wonderful lunch here on Easter Sunday. Menu very good, with a great choice and reasonably priced. Having lamb at Easter time was very traditional and excellently cooked. The whole experience was very good and we will be going again. The food was amazing and we couldn't fault any of it. The dining room has yet to complete its refurbishment but it doesn't detract from the food. Staff were extremely pleasant and polite, service was quick even though the restaurant was full. I would recommend this highly.

Could not fault the standard of the re-furbishment to this hotel. Attention to detail equivalent to a 5 star hotel. Beautiful setting and cannot wait to return for a visit. Truly a magnificent hotel with excellent dining.

Room Tip: If you are not so mobile ask for a room without a bath, as the sides are quite high to climb into.

Dropped in for lunch - new owners have certainly transformed the hotel. Food could not be faulted, cheerful service, well worth a second visit which we will soon make!
Took the opportunity to look at a couple of bedrooms - furnishings to a high standard and first class equipment.

Our first visit for two years and what an amazing transformation. I will not repeat what has already been said about the refurbishment which is excellent.
Our only criticism of the restaurant was that on both nights that we had dinner the menu was almost identical. Although we did not eat in on the third night we did notice that some changes had occurred. Breakfasts were excellent and the smoked salmon with scrambled egg amazing. Inexperience by some of the staff was still evident but everyone was very friendly and cheerful.

We were in room 27 which together with room 26 opposite is next to the exit into the rear car park and this meant that that there were people passing by at times. The doors to the bedrooms have to be slammed shut and there is no way of closing them quietly. This did cause some early morning and late night disturbance.

When in the area don't fail to visit the Norfolk Wildlife Trust just along the road at Cley. Entry is FREE and the bird viewing over the adjacent marshes is superb. Refreshments are available all day including light lunches and prices are very reasonable.

With the improvements that have been made this hotel must surely become even more popular.

We arrived on a rainy grey friday afternoon with 2 dogs. We were met by extremely helpfull and friendly staff who directed us to our room. The room itself was outstanding, so much so I asked again if it was ok to have the dogs in there. Flat screen TV, fridge, King size bed! The food was first class, the service superb. All staff members from housekeeping, chefs and even the gardener were polite and friendly and had time to ask how we were enjoying our stay. Will definitely be staying there again and cant recommend the hotel enough. For walkers, with dogs or not, the location is excellent and is a great base to explore Norfolk.

Room Tip: Dog rooms have their own rear passage door so you dont have to bother guests when walking them in th...

What a change since last year. We have been using this hotel for a number of years and it was getting tired but what a revelation . Everything sparkles including the rooms and fixtures, the staff, infact everywhere you go.
It has always been an ideal spot for exploring North Norfolk, even more so now.

Room Tip: All rooms great, just the ones in the house have better views but you do pay a supplement for these
