“Once in a lifetime,maybe twice”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2014

Once in a great long while you get a combination of flawless service in a beautiful setting with food worth every penny and a certain peace descends...
Each of the three rooms that make up this restaurant are beautifully appointed and comfortably intimate although each is different. One would be "relaxed" the next "informal" and the most plush; "formal". The wait staff wear suit and tie regardless and are low-key while attentive.
The menu offers many options but be prepared to pay for the quality and presentation of the food no matter what you decide. The wine and liquor list is extensive and impressive. I have been to one other restaurant( in Philadelphia) with a longer, more impressive list.
Duck and goose livers are a menu highlight as well as various fish. Forgo the cheese plate as the cheeses are best elsewhere but try an Armagnac; available by the year or blended. First time
tasters are best off with year of birth, beyond that go straight to 1930.

“Lovely setting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 11, 2013

We ate here, on recommendation from our hotel. The courtyard in the summer was delightful, the staff very busy, but also cheerful. However, as a word of caution, service was slow, and one couple left after waiting a long time to order!. The food did not disappoint, and the prices for this level of restaurant were reasonable. €58 for the fixed menu with a bottle of wine, and water. The interior also lovely, and my wife especially commented on the quality of the wash rooms!

“Life is too short to be wasted on places like this”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed June 28, 2013 via mobile

A nice setting, with a courtyard and 3 interconnected rooms inside an elegant building, promised much, and the high prices suggested that this was an upmarket venue, but the reality was very different.

First observation was that the staff made no effort to be welcoming and some looked angry. A woman who appeared to be a team leader or manager asked in a very curt manner where we would like to sit, there being a choice of tables and areas (despite it being Saturday night there were not many customers). We picked one but when the third and final member of our party arrived (on time), he asked to change because the table was too exposed to people walking past. The same female staff member, when asked if we could move to the other table said "no, that is not available now" before promptly turning away. And yet no additional diners had entered. We should really have left then, but it was Saturday night, and where else would we go?

We persevered through some very overpriced house champagne and onto food. The food was never more than average, never lived up to its description, and in some cases was really disappointing. One example was pork, alleged to have been cooked for 8 hours, which was not tender in the slightest.

Service came at irregular intervals and with a snarl, except in the case of one male staff member who was merely unsmiling rather than unpleasant. The diner's perception is of being an intrusion on an angry, bitter group of staff who resent every task they so unwillingly perform. At times we were left so long to our own devices that it was necessary to go and seek out a member of staff. It is easy to relate to some of the other reviews here, which report stressed out staff running around inefficiently giving the appearance of activity but with scarcely any food being served.

Only two of the group ordered desserts. Expectations by this time were not high, but we were determined to find something enjoyable about the experience and pretentiously small portion size had combined with a long journey to mean that appetites were not satisfied. After ordering, 45 minutes went by, during which one of us lost interest in having a dessert. We asked that if that dish had not already started being prepared, it should be cancelled. We were asked why and replied that at nearly 11pm the appetite and the moment were past. The brusque woman said, "this is not a bistro, this food takes time to prepare!" In fairness, the dessert which eventually came was reported to be "alright actually" which, in the light of the evening so far, came as a positive surprise.

It was a thoroughly regrettable evening. We were there having failed at short notice to get into Au Carillon Gourmand, which could not have been more different and had in fact been the culinary highlight of a week's travels around France. Les Caudalies was the exact opposite.
AVOID!

“Evening meal”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2012

Very good value and the food was excellent. The restaurant was also very pleasant. There was a choice of 2 or 3 course meals at very reasonable prices.

“Great Food in a lovely setting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2012

The dining area is in a pretty courtyard setting or under an amazing glass ceiling. Food for the price was exceptionally good - 63 euros for two including a tip. Delightful appetisers & main courses - we had trout and pork plats du jour. Staff busy but pleasant and charming - we weren't in a rush to leave and the little sweet surprise with the coffee rounded the evening off perfectly. (I think the mad chef of a couple of weeks ago has packed his bags and his replacement is worth the trip if you're in town)
