“Home From Home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 14, 2010

We travel through Lyon regularly and usually stay in the centre of Lyon. We read a glowing report on Les Pasquiers in the Daily Mail by "An Inspector Calls" and decided to give it a try.
We support all the good things that were said about Les Pasquiers in that article
Laurance the hostess is fantastic. She provided a tremendous 5 course meal with aperitif and all the wine you could drink. The food and ambience was first class and the hostess who in her previous life had been a doctor is a very intelligent and witty individual. The other guests were a retired US investment banker and his 3 teenage sons who were excellent company. You certainly meet a better quality of person at Les Pasquiers.
The only negative is the lack of detail on how to find the place. We needed 2 phone calls to Laurance to find the place. he second when we were almost outside the property.
This is a very minor quibble and easily resolved.
We recommend any one to go there. we will be going back on our return to the UK in May.

A Sawday recommendation, this is a family home and not a hotel: if you want the simplicity and anonymity of a hotel then you should go elsewhere. This is Jacques and his family welcoming you into their family home: the garden, with its pool, the sitting room with its books and lovely furniture and piano and old-fashioned slightly formal feel. On arrival we were offered a glass of wine by the pool, with figs just picked from the tree in the corner of the garden.

Our double room was simple, clean and bright, with separate bathroom and toilet. There was a guest sitting room, full of books and music, a deeply cultured place.

We stayed there on a night when it was the two of us, a family of three Belgians and a separate party of four other Belgians. We all gathered for a pre-dinner drink at 7.45 (Champagne, I think; we were certainly in the area) and Jacques was a hugely effective host, martialling the conversation and compensating for our lack of French/Flemish. The evening meal, cooked by Jacques' wife and mother, was pleasant and delicious and accompanied by the right wines.

Once again I'd make the point that if you want the anonymity of a hotel this place doesn't give it; on the other hand, if you want to stay with a French family in homely but pleasant surroundings, have them cook a meal for you and give you a breakfast the next morning then I'd recommend this place.
