“The Cherry on the Icing of our Holiday in France”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2013

Referring to a rather old edition of 'Small Charming Hotels in France' we booked Maison Lameloise - for a single night stopover - on the basis of a good review and a reference to a very special dining experience without really thinking about it. But as a final episode at the end of a delightful holiday in the South it was a perfect choice.
The hotel is pretty well in the centre of Chagny and we were given a warm and friendly welcome after a long half-day riding up the Autoroute. Negotiating Lyon had been humid and unpleasant and it was great that we were allowed to park up the bike directly outside and proceed straight to our room to freshen up. In the room there were some welcome pastries which went down very nicely thank you and the room itself had a beautiful spacious bathroom and a vast and comfortable bed. The whole hotel is very tastefully decorated giving it a warm atmosphere which is supported by lovely helpful staff. We felt cosseted.
Now to the evening meal. Well it is not for penny pinchers but that said it lives up to the Michelin star rating 100% and then some. Every course brought a rich spectrum of subtle and delightful flavours - perfectly combined and presented. Courses were also to be punctuated by unadvertised but welcome amuse bouches, sorbets etc. all supplementing the experience. This included snail fritters which we'd probably never have attempted otherwise - delicious! The meats were a delight - infused with delicate flavours and cooked to perfection. My agneau fermier was superb but Carole's Cote de veau took top prize I must admit. For the dessert I was a bit of a bore and opted for Crepe Suzette. I do not expect to eat a better one in my life-time!!! I was rewarded by being offered a healthy tot of Grand-Marnier to follow through. Not only is everything presented and delivered beautifully but the service is wonderful. The team are able to explain every dish in perfect English (if you're feeling too tired to test out your French) but all is done with genuine enthusiasm and a determination to ensure you get the best of your experience. Enough for now - we loved it!!!
2 tiny gripes with the room - those annoying 'we're scared you're going to nick them' coat hangers - which are frankly out of place in such a prestigious hotel + no drink making gear in the room which might be going a bit the other way but sometimes it is nice to just to be able to put the kettle on!
Otherwise top marks all around.

Room Tip: At the back there is a bit of noise from the kitchen but at the front is the town square - which mig...

My husband and I had a very memorable stay here. The rooms are not "luxe" but are very comfortable and price is surprising for a hotel with a 3 star Michelin restautant. Helpful, accomodatng staff. Parking is off site as the hotel is in a small village. The hotel takes care of this for you.

We stayed 4 nights last July at this cozy and charming hotel. Location is very good as a base to explore Bourgogne. Dinner superb, unforgettable, expensive but worth it. Breakfast, the opposite - too simple for the 25 euros each person. The rooms are good, very comfortable, we stayed in the front rooms. The little in-room daily surprises like homemade sweets and other délices are magic. We will stay again.

Lameloise was one of the stop we did during our "gourmet week" from South of France up to Paris and from far the BEST!
I cannot find one bad thing about our dinner and 1 night stay there. Everything was perfect, starting with the food which was mind blowing. The service very kind and elegant. The rooms large, nice, elegant. We felt like in paradise.
Would go back there right away! Congratulations to the Chef and the whole team!

I travelled to Burgundy with my husband, brother and his fiancé to celebrate my birthday. We wanted to visit a few wineries for wine tasting and purchasing and Lameloise was chosen as the perfect base for our three night stay. From the moment we arrived the service was faultless, just what we would expect from an hotel boasting a 3* Michelin restaurant, although not at all pretentious. The room itself was light and airy, modern and tastefully decorated - comfortable rather than luxurious. We lunched in the restaurant on my Birthday and again on the Saturday evening...lovely atmosphere and of course excellent food and service. We found the sommelier most informative and not at all stuffy (as some can be) and he directed us to the wines that would best match our meal choices (and most importantly that we're within our budget). After-dinner drinks in the hotel bar, again with most informative bar people who were happy to talk to us and impart their knowledge of local history, traditions etc. would love to return again in the future...

We had a couple of days here and it really wasn't enough. Not only is the hotel lovely but it's position gives the option of exploring the wonderful Burgundy wine region but also some stunning and different and historical parts the Borgogne,

We had a room in the annex and also in the new part of the hotel adjoining the old house (greedy I know but had to be that way as hotel was full!) so had are able to comment on 2 very different rooms. Both were lovely but on balance we preferred the one in the annex with it's small outside space in which to sit and enjoy the sunshine.

The restaurant is second to none and sitting outside at lunchtime was lovely too especially if you can get a table near the water. Also a lovely touch is having a lovely outside space to have pre-dinner drinks and light snacks. One evening there was even some entertainment. Can't wait to go back

The overall experience of the property was very good, but there were a few things that were not up to the expected standard for a Relais and Chateaux Hotel.

The Restaurant experience was almost faultless with attentive staff, and an imaginative Chef. There is the feeling though, that the extensive staff are not properly directed as they seem to always be walking past empty handed when they could be clearing plates or used glasses en route to the kitchen.
The Breakfast was not very inspiring but beautifully presented. The breakfast is sort of an 'a La Carte' but the choice is quite limited and the continental costs €25.00 per person., although there are a few options to order should you wish.

On the plus side,in the room, there is a complimentary mini Bar with a couple of Beers, waters and soft drinks. On the negative side, there is no wine, champagne or spirits in the mini bar. If you want a bottle of wine in the room, there is no wine list and you need to go to reception to view the extensive choices.

The room has an efficient air conditioning system, that was working well when we arrived, but it seems that the central plant is on some sort of time clock control and if you require cooling overnight, the central system switches off and the best you can achieve in the room is 'Fan only' without the cooling factor. This is presumably a money saving exercise ?

Our second floor room was quite well furnished, but lacing any sort of 'wow' factor.

For a property of this price, one would normally expect to find a tea and coffee making facility in the room., but in this property it was conspicuous by it's absence. There were a few complimentary cakes/biscuits/sweets in the room but without a cup of tea the moment was lost.. There was not a room service menu either to order from.

The Bathroom was well appointed but lacked the thermostatic shower controls for the shower and yet again it was a shower in a bath so it was a climb in the bath and pull a grotty plastic curtain to save soaking the floor.

The overall impression was very good but there were things lacking in a Hotel of this calibre. .

Would I go again for a one night stay ? Probably not, as I would try somewhere else .
