“Fantastic hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2011 via mobile

My boyfriend and I have just returned from a 2 night stay and I decided to write my first ever review on trip advisor simply because I was so impressed with the hotel and the owner! I agree with all of the positives in the previous reviews - it really is a gem of a hotel and the owner goes out of his way to make sure your stay is perfect. Top marks!

Our room (103) was immaculate, with everything you need including a small terrace to sit out. Good value. Worthy of more than its two stars.

We chose this hotel for a six-day holiday in Bénodet because of its ideal location, close to the heart of the old town with its shops and post office, and a short walk to the port and the riverside promenade, the Corniche de l'Estuaire. Here were a number of good restaurants and creperies, not to mention terrace bars where you can sit and watch the sailing boats on the river Odet. In the other direction, the Avenue de la Plage leads you straight to the beach and another set of brasseries and café-bars.

Like the previous reviewer, we decided to pay a bit extra to have a double room with a balcony, which looked out over the garden and the wooded slope down to the estuary. Through the trees you can glimpse the river Odet and people walking along the Corniche, as well as the masts of sailing boats. From the balcony you can see the top of the famous lighthouse projecting above the trees.

The room itself was spacious, with a large, comfortable double bed, and a varied choice of lighting operated from the bedside and other parts of the room - a useful feature. Mounted discreetly on the wall opposite the bed was a large plasma TV screen. On seeing this, my husband couldn't resist switching it on, lying down on the bed and watching the Tour de France (he's a big fan) and thought he was in paradise. There was also a small fridge with a key so you could use it as a minibar - and a bottle opener!

As for the bathroom, it was huge and immaculate, with tiled walls and floor and brilliant lighting. Everything had been thought out down to the last detail. The bath was built into a recess so that the shower didn't splash everywhere, and there was a big ledge for shower gel and shampoo. At the opposite end of the bath from the shower was a shelf containing the bath towels, which could also be hung from there. The washbasin was well lit, with a mirror at the back, and there were also convenient shelves and other surfaces for toiletries and so on. Most amazing was the huge magnifying mirror (with built-in light and switch) at the front of the washbasin, which was a godsend for me when I put on my make-up. In addition there was a large bathroom cabinet. Other thoughtful touches were a couple of strategically placed hooks and a stool to sit on.

This is one of those rare hotels where you find the owner has anticipated all your needs. As I told him on the first morning at breakfast, "You've thought of everything!", and he replied, "That's what I try to do." Monsieur Guillou's hospitality and friendliness is one of the hotel's greatest assets.

Breakfast was relaxed and leisurely. A buffet was available from 8 am to 12 noon, and if the coffee ran out you could make your own at the touch of a button (or call the always obliging owner). Apart from the usual breads and jam, there was cheese, ham, cereal, fruit, yoghurt and more, and jugs of fruit juice. The breakfast room is large and airy and looks out to the peaceful garden and trees.

"Take your time" was Monsieur Guillou's catchphrase. He was insistent that we must treat the hotel like home, that we were on holiday to relax and so time didn't matter. Nothing was ever too much trouble for him. His English is excellent, but he was polite and kind enough to allow me to converse in my very rusty French.

It's not a luxurious hotel but anyone who wants a plain, simple, relaxed and friendly place with excellent facilities will have a wonderful stay here.

After a disappointing start in Concarneau. we moved to Benodet to find a decent 2* Hotel, and we found one which surpassed our expectation, and at a very reasonable price.
Situated a few minutes walk from the Seafront, this Hotel has excellent facilities, a most efficient and helpful owner, and the best breakfast around.
We had very well equippped, clean and comfortable rooms, ours with a small balcony overlooking the small back garden (and carpark) and tree area. The second bedroom, being used by a friend as a single, was equally comfortable, at the front, but as the road is so quiet, there was no disturbance throughout our six night stay.
Our rooms were quite spacious and had everything we needed, including a small fridge for our personal use - very useful. We even had a bottle-opener! The equally well-equipped bathroom, which even had a stainless steel retractable washing line, and hairdryer, was spotless, but if you're looking for the latest bathroom design this is not the place for you. Plenty of hot water though, and maintained immaculately.
If you want tea and coffee in your room we suggest you take your own kettle. However, we were told on arrival to 'treat the Hotel like home' and on a good few occasions we took advantage of the kettle, and free tea and coffee-making facilities in the dining room. Talking of dining, our breakfast range for 8 Euros included the the usual breads, jam and butter, plus boiled eggs (cold), ham, cheese, yogurts, fruit, cereals and toast cooked yourself, and as much tea and coffee as you could drink. Francois, the owner, kept everything replenished, with a geniality and good humour rare in someone so busy.
Additionally, this hotel has free safe parking, as the gates are closed at 23.00 hrs. A downstairs room is available for disabled guests, although we did not actually see the room.
This is a super hotel, in a super spot, with an owner who takes pride in his hotel, and being local-born he knows the area well.
By the way, if looking for a super creperie, you would do well to visit 'Creperie de Benodet' where we found the best range of Crepes, served by son, with mama cooking her rather authentic, lovely tasting crepes, decently priced, with wine to match, in a friendly, cosy atmosphere. It is situated just off the front, within easy walking distance of the Hotel Ker Vennaik. Enjoy.
