We stood last August for 4 nights. Rooms are ok and clean. Staff is nice and halpful. It is very well located right in front of the beach.

We stayed here for 3 nights in late August, having left things last minute and this seemed to be the last room available in Hendaye. The only room left was a mezzanine suite for 256 euros per night. When we picked ourselves up off the floor from shock, the receptionist agreed to give us the room for 198 per night as long as we stayed for 3 nights. We weren't in a great position to argue and agreed to take the room. The lady was quite nice and polite, but then she hit us with the "extras". Given that this is a spa, we thought it was incredibly tight to ask for 14 euros per person, per day to use the pool! We were disgusted that breakfast wasn't included, and was another 14 euros. We assumed we could just put the car in the underground car park, but we were told that that this was available for "just a small supplement of 5 euros per day"! We elected to park it on the road for free! Everything about this hotel gives you the impression it is trying to be 5 star, not 3 star, and fails miserably. The rooms are modern but in need of redecorating, the toiletries are cheap, the towels are poor quality, and the balcony dilapidated and in need of repair. Avoid it!

Usually when Americans complain that the French are rude, I blame the Americans for ignorance of language and custom. However, despite the fact that I am fluent in French and highly-versed in French custom, I experienced (for the first time in my eight years of visiting France) that famed French rudeness here in Hendaye. Every single staff member at Thelassotherapie snubbed my sister and me by giving us bad directions (within the hotel, no less), grey-stained torn robes for our spa treatments (everyone else had pure white robes with hoods), and immense difficulty with any and all check-in and check-out proceedings (it took 30min to find my sister's massage reservation that had been made 15 minutes previously). On top of the service, the spa was much more of a corporation, trading in human cattle to be ineffectively massaged and kicked out, rather than a relaxation retreat. When the internet stopped working on top of everything else, I nearly tore my hair out. This was the only stressful part of an otherwise wonderful month spent traveling all over France; I'm glad this experience was towards the end of my trip so it didn't ruin everything else.

My only possible explanation is that we both were about 40 years younger than their average clientele and the staff thought we disrupted their calm by proxy. In short, even if the view if good, BEWARE if you are under 60 (or enjoy actually relaxing at a spa).

This is a really old hotel and is in an urgent need of refurbisment. To expensive for what you get. Will never go again. The Spa area is sooooo old.

We stayed at this hotel, booking last minute in August as every other place near the coast was booked. Traffic was brutal getting to the hotel, and the hotel charged an extra 5 euro for parking. Breakfast was not included and was the standard overpriced 14 or 14 euro/person. The hotel was highly overpriced at this time of the year -- it is classified as a three star, but the room we stayed in was outdated and rather worn-looking. Neither the accommodation nor service offered us anything special for the over 200 euro that we spent on this room. We did have a balcony with a nice view of the beach, which came with a great deal of exhaust from the heavy traffic on the street below. My advice: don't stay on the coast at this time of the year.

This hotel is in an absolutely fantastic postition with great views over the bay - if you get the sea front rooms. However the rooms are very average, if not a bit tatty especially for the price. We've stayed lots of times because there just isn't much more in town and it's so handy for the beach and bringing wet and sandy things back to the room. The thalassomie is fab though, and I recommend it even if you're not staying here. The hotel Paris is much more charaterful and cheaper, but not quite as convenient for the beach. There is another much cheaper hotel further along the sea front, but it's dark and smelly (IMHO).
