“Nice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2013

Close to main drag, clean, nice decor, comfy beds, proper walk-in showers, good breakfast. No restaurant, but a very exxy bar with some snacks. Close to decent restaurants. Quite quiet because it's on a square. The small pool looked nice. Excellent service from friendly staff. Would stay there again.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front have french windows with a pleasant view onto the square.

Parking-they have their own garage so perfect. Spot on for access to the old town.
The first air-con room for a while and it was quiet with comfortable temperature. Bliss. The room was superb overall. We used the bar, lovely staff and breakfast was a feast.
The pool is really good, nice size and good temperature for this time of year.
We had two rooms interconnected to form a mini suite. So overall excellent.

This is constructive comments that we hope the owner takes on board-
The hotel was fantastic, great location and no expense spared. There were 5 couples who arrived and the main receptionist was very rude (short black hair) and unhelpful which didn't set the lovely break on the right note. The owner and her daughter were so polite and welcoming when we met them and even served us rounds of drinks all afternoon at the Jacuzzi.
The rooms are beautifully done but the bathrooms need updating.
The breakfast was very average and with a little more thought it could be taken to a much better level. The lady who is in charge of breakfasts (wears black) is also very rude which makes you feel not welcome at all.
This hotel could be soooo good and we would give it 5/5 if the hotel improved some of their staff attitudes to us tourists.

Just returned from a two-night stay in the picturesque town of Sarlat. We choose to stay at the Hotel Plaza Madeliene & Spa as it seemed to be the best option in the area for location, comfort and style. The hotel is in an ideal location just a minute’s walk from the main square where the bars, restaurants and shops are yet just far enough away to be the perfect place to relax. Our room (on the third floor) was spacious and air conditioned and offered a pool view. The rooms at the back (poolside view) on the top (third) floor have small windows, so if you want a larger shuttered window, ask for a different level. The room was nicely decorated and towels for the pool area, dressing gowns and slippers were provided. The bathroom was clean and bright but the glass shower screen was useless (water all over the floor) and the hairdryer was a complete waste of time – bring your own!

The hotel pool is lovely but small and I imagine if the hotel is full in high season, then it could get very busy. The spa did not seem to be open during the course of our stay, so I can’t comment any further on this. Also, the hotel bar did not open until 4pm and you were not allowed to bring your own drinks round the pool, so this wasn’t great. However, the bar area is very nice with a good selection of wines and the outside bar area is lovely in the hot weather as they have cooling mist sprays in action. The hotel restaurant also looks nice although I can’t comment on the food as we ate out in the town every night.

The hotel does have parking spaces available (just up the road from the hotel) in a private garage. I would suggest that if you want a parking space that you book it in advance as I would guess that space is limited.

The staff were polite and helpful when asked about the surrounding area. If I was visiting Sarlat again, I would be happy to stay here.

Room Tip: Rooms either look out onto the pool or out into the square. Third floor rooms are in the roofspace a...

We had come from Paris, Versailles, then Amboise before staying in the wonderfully preserved and quaint town of Sarlat. The "Mad" is beautifully situated in town giving access to all venues via a walk.

Checking in was no problem though the lovely woman speaks minimum english, madame understands just fine. Parkng by the way is several blocks away but no problem when the weather is so fine and your on holiday. Walking is a great way to work off the wine and fois gras no?

We did not lounge at the pool or spa as our itinerary had us exploring the surrounding villages and the Dordogne daily. We stayed three nights in a beautiful, clean, modern room with a large gorgeous shower/bathroom.

We woke up to the market very early one morning. They set up right in front of the hotel and ths massive market takes over the town square and main street for the day. It was quintessential french.

Our only low point was at check out. Somehow madame gave the couple we were travelng with the benefit our our prepaid one night deposit and refused to correct it. She insisted that we work it out ourselves. Of course we did but this was the only hotel out of six we stayed over 18 days this was an issue. It was just odd....

It didn't ruin a lovely visit to a wonderful town....we'd stay at the Mad and in Sarlat again with pleasure!

Room Tip: Facing the squarecon market day may wake you very early.

In the heart of Sarlat this hotel is perfectly located for a romantic get-away.
A lovely pool area with direct access to the spa (though not open before 4 pm) and service from the hotel' bar.
The breakfast was okay, but a bit pricy for the poor quality though they offered a wide selection.
A/C in the rooms was much appreciated.

Room Tip: We lived in the cheapest rooms - they were just fine.

It was our 30th anniversary and we had purchased a special bottle of wine we wanted to enjoy before going out for a late dinner. The people at the hotel kept telling us the only place we could drink it was our room which had only a small window and no view. Even after I suggested I pay them for a "set up" with glasses in the lounge they refused. I asked for the manager and she didn't even care to apologize, just NO, not at the pool if we used plastic glasses no, no... not even happy anniversary just a cold look that made us feel like ugly Americans.
