“Charming”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 30, 2012

We rented two of the 11 rooms for 4 nights and had a wondeful time. The staff was extremely helpful, and the rooms were spacious enough and attractively furnished. The wifi worked well enough, though a bit weak. This small hotel is a little bit of luxury in a locale where it was difficult to find quality accomodations. They had a unique job combination that actually worked well. I.e., the front desk attendant is also the breakfast restaurant waiter, but they pulled it off. The breakfast was delightful. Breads and pastries were fresh and well made, and eggs were prepared perfectly. Coffee came promptly (thankfully). The only nit is that the scales in both rooms did not work because of dead batteries. Either replace the batteries or remove the scales please. But, that is only a nit. The location is close enough to the medieval village for walking accessibility, and far enough away for nighttime peace and quiet. We would stay here again should we return.

This is a long overdue review for a truly superior little gem of a hotel. My wife and I had actually checked into another nearby hotel in the Dordogne that came highly rated, but after one night in a sad two-room suite that looked like it was decorated at a Salvation Army thrift shop, we immediately began making plans to get out while the getting was good. Having read positive reviews about La Boetie, despite its not having a restaurant, we drove to Sarlat, checked out the sole accommodation that was available (a romantic bi-level suite) and immeidately put down the credit card to secure the room while we raced back to the former hotel to pack and check out.

It was the best decision we could have made. The hotel's setting was peaceful, but only four blocks from the town walls and all the activity that is Sarlat. We quickly found a little cafe for breakfast (the hotel does serve breakfast but dining in town among the regulars was more fun). After just a few days, the proprietor of the cafe even had our tea waiting for us as we walked down the street toward our favorite outdoor table.

Back to the hotel, the true star of the show. Our suite could not have been more romantic. The odd roof line (we were at the top of the mini-turret of the manse) and colorful French provincial fabrics, little sitting nooks and bric-a-brac created a real country house feel that was both comfortable and sophisticated. When the Internet didn't work one evening, the staff climbed into the attic to try to get it fixed. They didn't get it fixed that night but we appreciated the sincere effort - the router was fixed the next morning so not much lost on a holiday in any event. The staff was helpful at every turn, oh so polite and able to speak English well (we speak French and like practicing when we travel).

Some have complained that street parking can be difficult around the hotel. Funnily enough, we never found the hotel's private parking lot on the side street, as we just never knew which gate to try to unlock. However, we never had difficulty finding parking on the street and one at least a couple of times we were within a whisper of the front door.

Sarlat is charming but gets crowded. By our smart move to La Boetie we had the best of both worlds - the bustle of Sarlat whenever we wanted it, and the serentiy of what felt like a private home where we could be coddled whenever we needed it.

Room Tip: The suites are just beautiful and you cannot go wrong with them - large, comfortable and quirky in a...

We stayed seven nights Clos La Boetie. It is an eleven suite hotel, small and intimate. David and his colleagues were friendly and helpful. The rooms are beautifully decorated and comfortable. Our rooms had double closets, luxurious linens and king bed, robes and slippers and lots of room to accomodate luggage. There were tables and lamps where you need them, chairs and sofa for viewing two tvs, one in each room. Breakfast each morning was to order and either in our room on in their cosey dining/ sitting room off the lobby. The patios are surrounded by beautiful landscaping where you can sit outside and enjoy a drink from the shared hotel next door. There is also a pool and many lounge chairs to sit in the sun or read. We were lucky to have stayed in a beautiful hotel with a friendly staff and in the beautiful of Sarlat.

We stayed 5 nights in Sarlat and booked a room with a terrace. The room was a great size and included 2 dressing spaces and a luxury bathroom. Having a glass of wine on the terrace before dinner in the town was delightful. The little extras made our stay special.
Highly recommended.

Room Tip: We loved the room with the terrace on the ground floor.

This hotel is effectively the luxury annexe to a very good quality 3* hotel with which it shares grounds and a pool. However, all services and reception areas are completely separate.

The staff are courteous and accommodated every request with a smile (and prompt attention). The room we stayed in for 4 days was clean, spacious and beautifully maintained. It had a well furnished private terrace which was a delight.

We were welcomed with a gift of local wine and some most beautifully tasting macaroons. Every evening the beds were turned down and chocolates (beautifully presented) were left.

We pre-booked private parking which was perhaps 100m from the hotel. This was secured and could be easily accessed using the room key (It seemed to be attached to a private house and for use only by La Boetie guests).

The town is a short stroll away (10 minute stroll, 5 minute walk) and is full of restaurants and bars. There is a restaurant a minute away, which looked good. We didn't use it, preferring the atmosphere of the old town.

Not doubt at all, if staying again in the Dordogne, we wouldn't hesitate to return to Clos La Boetie.

Stayed two nights in the Beautiful Beynac Suite. We were lucky enough to find a parking spot right in front of the hotel and decided not to move the car as the next day was the extremely busy market day. The hotel kindly arranged a car to take us to our dinner at Le Grand Bleu that evening, and to return to collect us afterwards. Our room was beautiful - large and luxurious. Bathroom amenities included everything you could think of, including a loofah! The room was very quiet, and had heavy curtains to provide a good level of protection from the long daylight hours. We used the small gym which had a cross trainer, two exercise bikes and some weight equipment. We did not have breakfast at the hotel, preferring to walk the few minutes into the town centre. We did note that, while the bathroom was beautiful, some of the fixtures were coming loose. There was some minor staining to the carpets in the bedroom. Overall, a beautiful, well-located hotel with friendly and accommodating service.

I just wanted to put in a happy word about how much I enjoyed my stay at this very pleasant hotel in Sarlat. The hotel is conveniently located near the center of town, but is not a noisy or difficult place to stay. I stayed in the "Commarque" room, which led the next day to my visit to the actual Chateau.

The staff was very friendly, and even helpful with my rudimentary grasp of French. The breakfast at the hotel was very nice, and the room was a delightful respite after a day of travelling through the area. When it rained on the 8th, the effect was something like a storybook fable.

These are good people with a very nice hotel. I recommend a stay there if you're in the neighborhood.
