“Hotel Des Recollets”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2012

We stayed in hotel early July. I was v disappointed. the room was more like a garret, literally couldn,t "swing a cat" in it. It was clean though. the climb down either using steps or laneway was very steep. Parking was situated 10 mins walk away and cost 7 euro for a space in a muddy field. I felt it was very costly for what we got. coildn't honestly recommend it to anyone. On arrival
the reception was manned by 2 ladies both I felt rather unfriendly while next morning when we checked out a very courtious gentleman was there, signal for phone and WIFI seem to non existent. Marie Ireland

We booked this online the night before our arrival and the only room left was a triple. Staying in an old convent certainly appealed to us but the interior has very little character. The room was disappointing when we first saw it. Clean but absolutely no frills or charm. However, we accepted we weren't paying much. We were glad of the extra space the triple gave us. It would have been very cramped otherwise. It's just a shame such a historic building couldn't have been converted more sympathetically.
We found the staff pleasant enough but reception closes early so beware.
The WIFI in the room was hopeless. You could just about get a signal if you sat on the floor by the door but even that wasn't reliable.
The hotel parking is unusual - in a field which is part of a neighbouring property. As other reviewers have mentioned, there's probably free on street parking nearby if you want to look for it.
The best thing about the hotel is the location in the historic old town. It's in a lovely old street (quite tricky to find on first arrival) within very easy walking distance of all the sights and restaurants of Sarlat.

I had made a reservation here because I wanted to stay somewhere with 'character'. I arrived at the hotel at 18:30 (not terribly late by North American standards), having written to them beforehand I would arrive 'sometime after 1800'. It took me quite a while to find the hotel, which is not well signed. At the reception I was told that the manager had cancelled my reservation half an hour before, no reason given! Thank goodness for the very helpful woman receptionist- she phoned around many other places to find me a room (Sarlat was pretty full this weekend). I ended up at the Ibis, hardly a place with character, for a higher price, and outside the old city. No apology or offer to pay the extra costs. DO NOT stay here. The only good thing about this place was the receptionist.

Avoid this place . It isn't what it says . The WIFI didn't work in our room . We were told to park on the street ( 2.50 every 2 hours ) . No a/c . Staff ( one guy ) was indifferent to the point of rudeness (maybe just the weekend guy ) . The place is a dump .

Wonderful location in a medieval village with lovely restaurants. Loved our "hobbit"hole hotel room with round door. safe car parking but a bit of a walk over uneven ground. The breakfast pastries were stale-go to a local patisserie for coffee and croissants. Staff were neither rude nor friendly.

we were disappointed with this hotel. the access to the rooms is via very narrow staircase not recommended for anyone with mobility difficulties. the banister was incredibly dirty and decor in hotel if tired. the room was ok but dark , the sheet were ripped. the bath was very high to climb into again not recommended for someone with mobility problems and it was not possible to place the shower attachment onto holder as pipe was too short, which meant showering with shower attachment in hand. we were not allowed to eat breakfast in the courtyard even though it was not raining as lady in charge told us she had said no to everyone else. all staff were very dower. Sarlat is beautiful but don't stay in this hotel if you want a perfect holiday

We didn't actually end up staying here but had a terrible experience with the hotel. Due to issues with train scheduling we couldn't arrive until after 9pm and they refused to keep the reception open for a measly extra hour so that we could check in. It shouldn't have been such a problem during peak season. They also refused to refund our payment. The woman on the phone was rude and unreasonable.Do not stay at this hotel.
