“Beautiful Sarlat”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 2, 2013

We have just spent 6 nights in Sarlat and count ourselves as lucky to have stayed in this beautiful B & B. At a very, personally, difficult time for the family we were made to feel very welcome - Richard and Debbie our sincere thanks for your care at such a sad time. La Lanterne is situated in the atmospheric medieval heart of Sarlat an easy walk from Place Pasteur (bus stop for bus from Souillac and pick up point for Ophorous Tours); a short, easy walk from the train station; and literally with the cathedral, Lanterne des Morts, market, restaurants and shops etc at your fingertips. So absolutely ideal for our purposes. Guest accommodation is ideal with a wonderful sitting room and courtyard to choose from for that all important drink at the end of the day and our room, the Tapestry Room, all very comfortable and tastefully furnished. Richard's breakfasts are highly recommended - the fresh fruit was especially welcomed and really sets one up for the day. Thank you Terri, Richard and Debbie for making our stay in this beautiful area of France truly memorable.

We arrived at La Lanterne after a long flight from Sydney and a drive from Toulouse. We were given a warm welcome on our arrival and help with parking etc. The bed was perfect. You need to factor in that rooms are incorporated in an ancient building, so comparisons on space with rooms in modern premises can't apply. It has a historic buzz instead. Lounge area oozed relaxation. Hosts gave great advice on eating and sightseeing.
It's a short (steep) stroll to the central/market area. Atmosphere 10/10. Warmth and hospitality the same.

What a lovely stay we had at La Lanterne! The rooms were spotless and comfortable. We were warmly welcomed and our stay consisted of wonderful breakfasts beautifully presented The courtyard was cozy and a wonderful wee spot to enjoy a glass of wine or two and meet people from all over the world! A wonderful place to relax and enjoy the peacefulness of a hectic day! Highly recommend!

We were treated with exquisite personal attention by Terri Bowen, owner of La Lanterne, before ever making our reservation. She gave me detailed descriptions of the area and how to plan my time there...aptly overriding the mis-instruction from our travel agent.

The personal attention continued immediately after arrival when her brother-in-law drove with us to the spot where it was best to park. Mind you, this is a medieval town in which parking is a big question.

The setting is in the heart of the town, cozy, and comfortable. We fortuitously arrived the day before Sarlat's market day (an exceptional day to be there) and we brought home lunch that we enjoyed on La Lanterne's enclosed patio. We were given plates, silverware, glasses, etc.Truly more than we would typically expect from a B&B.

Our stay was enriched further by getting to rub elbows with the other guests. The setting was conducive to this in a way that most B&Bs are not. Also, the Dordogne is exquisitely beautiful and interesting so we plan to return and La Lanterne will be our 1st choice again.

La Lanterne is situated in one of, if not the most pretty, picturesque streets in Sarlat. It certainly fulfilled my expectations for the location as well as all other aspects. I was in the top floor well lit apartment with the following. Well equipped, squeaky clean kitchen (not like some apartments that say they are well equipped and are not), sitting room with a beautiful view of the cathedral/town, television with dvd player and ipod dock, 2 x portable fans, small table/chairs that could fold out to be a bigger table, lovely red couch that could fold out into a sofa bed. Bedroom was large, beautifully decorated as were all other aspects of the apartments, walk in wardrobe with lots of space, ironing board/iron, very clean well sized bathroom which was an ensuite to the bedroom. Aircon was in the bedroom. Lovely view of the cathedral from the bedroom. The breakfast was the best that I ate while I was away. From memory it was meats, cheese, bread, croissant (I think there was a croissant. I ate so many in general I can not recall), yogurt, delicious fruit salad and an offer of scrambled eggs. Coffee was good to. All of the staff were just lovely. At a time of family sadness, they managed to keep a sunny disposition and attitude. Thank you and thanks for the washing. xx

My staying at La Lanterne has been very good. The room was lovely and the bed very comfortable. I have been welcomed with a big smile and a nice Espresso which for an Italian is really nice. My friends live in the house opposite the Wisteria room which I recommend because is very quiet.

Our "Hosts" could not do enough for us. Immaculately clean, amazing breakfasts every morning, wonderful location and were made to feel right at home. Our room was spacious and beautifully decorated.
It is a relaxed, fun atmosphere where you can meet interesting people from all over the world in the cozy courtyard.
La Lanterne is a must see during your travels in France.
