“Lovely site”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2014

The site, while still above the town, is a convenient distance, unlike some sites we've been to in sarlat.

The site is well managed and maintained, a small shop and excellent facilities.

The parking location we were given was nice, set among the trees with a good view. All in all, would be happy to return.

It was off season, so the campsite was rather quiet and there was no food or entertainement available anymore, But that was all fine by me. The town is in walking distance, the staff is very friendly, the atmosphere is really laidback (great hammocks), free Wi-Fi and good sanitary facilities. Everything I needed was there.

We brought our tiny tent from the USA and enjoyed this experience for 2 nights. As other reviewers have mentioned, this is a buttoned up well run complex. Sanitaires were very clean. Loved the location. Although a steep walk uphill (about 10) minutes from town, it was very do able, even after dark. I believe this is the closest camping facility to town.

This site definitely wasn't for us. The access going up the awful hills was far to tight and the pitches way too sloped, even with the front of the caravan jacked up on breeze blocks we were still uncomfortably uneven. We asked for a pitch low down after reading the reviews but when we got there realised that was no good as we would have to walk up the hill to get to the Sanitaire (toilet and shower block) so there is no way to escape the hills which are worse than you think. We were put at the top after asking to be at the bottom so we drove in and out of the site on every trip. We chose this site because it was supposed to be very close to Sarlat, that is a joke, if you are a mountain goat I am sure its not a problem, we were forced to use the car on this site on every trip.
The out door pool was too chilly to use even on very hot days, the indoor pool was too shallow ad only slightly warmer but worse of all the water was cloudy and a little suspicious.
The staff are very helpful and friendly and the coffee shop area is quite nice, the pain a raison we ordered for breakfast each day were the best we have ever had.
The wi-fi is really poor.
The pitches as too small, everyone is crammed in together, I think Indigo use the term "natural" so they can get away with doing very little. The stench of burning clutch is everywhere as caravans and campers are attempting the marathon up-hill struggle. The steps to the Sanitary block from level 4 that we were put on were lethal, the handrail (wooden fence post) was shaky and too short and left splinters in my hand.
The restaurant and coffee shop was closed for the season even though it was early September and the site was open until the end and certainly appeared to be virtually full.
The sun beds around the pool are in fact only chairs and are too low to use if you are over 40.
The 'camping shop' mentioned proudly on their campsite had five items, apart from a torch none of them were particular to camping, we wanted to buy or borrow a hose adapter to attach our hose to the supplied tap and there were none and no suggestions as to how we could buy one (Brichomarche up the road had them), is it beyond Indigo to loan or sell them?
The outdoor nature of the Sanitaire block is unsettling, whilst using a basin to wash my hands a spider fell from the roof and frantically started running round and round (so did I). Just to cap it off, even though it was only early September, the Indigo thought nothing of having contractors build another level (!!) above us, so all day the endless noise and debris rained down on us, we left early needless to say.

Dear guest,
Thank you for taking the yime to review our campsite after your stay.
I am sorry to read that you didn't enjoy your stay to its fullest. It is true that our site is on a hill and that it may be a discomfort to some customers.
Should you choose to give us another opportunity, we'll take care to allocate you a more convenient pitch.
Kind regards,

We had a great time, spending a week here. Great facilities - shower blocks and welcome facilities are new. Facilities cleaned three times daily. Activities are put on for kids for 2 hours in the morning and there are Olympics and table tennis competitors some evenings. Kids enjoyed the pools, tennis and table tennis. Site arranged canoeing trips on the Dordogne too. Mainly French clientele with some Brits and Dutch. Warmly recommend.

We have just returned from a 6 night stay at Indigo Camping Sarlat and can thoroughly recommend the experience. Firstly the location is perfect: the site feels lost in the trees and the countryside and yet is literally a 10 minute walk into the centre of Sarlat (15 minutes on the way back - yes, it is up a hill but not really steep by South Devon fishing village standards!) The site itself is also set on quite a steep, terraced hillside and the walk back up to the top - if that's where you're pitched - would add on a bit of muscle work. We rented one of their excellent wood and canvas tents in a very secluded spot in the trees, which was absolutely lovely. We were on a lower level towards the entrance to the camp which did suffer from a little traffic noise - not volume of traffic, just effective acoustics! However, we chose the site because of its accessibility to the town and the pitch was perfect for us. The little snack bar served excellent pizzas, burgers and drinks until 10.00pm. The pool looked lovely but we didn't have time to try it - too much to do in the area. The staff were charming and very helpful and the facilities were modern and clean. Just one or two little gripes: the heat sensors operating in the shower stalls seemed to be really random - every 5 seconds or so I was plunged into darkness; but I am sure they could be adjusted easily. Also, as seasoned campers, we worry that the beautiful new tents may not winter well. Being amongst the trees is really lovely, but a lot of debris was already landing on and soiling the canvas as we left.
Maybe some careful overhead pruning would help. Be sure to canoe both the Vezere and the Dordogne - totally different rivers - see canoeing reviews for more details. All in all, a classy little outfit - we will definately be back.

Room Tip: Pitches at the top of the site may not suit elderly people or those with mobility difficulties. Som...

Hello,
Thank you for your message, which perfectly summed up the strengths of our Indigo Sarlat campsite: a fully renovated campsite, helpful staff and a good location (10 minutes walk from Sarlat).
We have taken note of your first remark concerning the showers. We have received several comments of this kind and will do what is needed to improve it.
On the other hand, please note that the canvas tents are dismantled for the winter, so there are no worries there :)
Thank you again for your feedback and see you soon!

We have used Camping Indigo before (Douarnenez - also very lovely) and were sufficiently happy to rebook. The fact you can see photos of the toilet blocks on the website is master stroke! Camping holidays hinge on one's impression of the showers and Camping Indigo have completely understood this. The site is on a terraced hillside which plays havoc with the knees but allows some lovely views; and the proximity to Sarlat was very pleasing. The swimming pool was well maintained and formed a good focus for the site. The staff are helpful and knowledgeable, offering excellent service and a lovely relaxed atmosphere.
