We go since 12 years to this most lovely place of perigord, amazing restaurant, great history, super view to Brantome.

The last two times in this year has been terrible. Service disorientated, wine card has changed in wrong direction and too expensive, the foie gras was old and the "ceur de filet de boef" grey and a little bit hard. No discussion possible.

Two times disaster - we are waiting for the next generation - for this time, we have lost our best adresse!

This is a beautiful hotel - the rooms are expensive but we had an amazing view of the river and the room had every luxury available - the shower was amazing although it did leak into the room at one stage! If you are looking to treat yourself - this is the place to stay - the restaurant was top notch but again very expensive - this is not a hotel to visit on a budget. Brantome is a very beautiful village and is well worth a visit.

Brantome is a very pretty village and deserves it's reputation. We stayed for one night only in the main building with a lovely view over the exterior rear seating area which was decked with flowers. We received a champagne welcome cocktail on arrival served in their garden overlooking the river - great after a long journey. We did not eat in the restaurant so cannot comment on the food although the menu did look good. The staff were friendly and helpful and the room was modern, clean and very well furnished and looked after.

Having the right room can make all the difference to a stay and to a Tripadvisor review. Having read some of the comments and criticisms about Le Moulin we phoned ahead to make sure we got a room either in the mill itself or in the 16th century extension across the bridge. The pre-planning was worthwhile. We were given a room in the main mill building (#7) that had a terrace overlooking the bridge, the mill race and the 11th century clocktower of the abbey. It was magical. Brantome rightly deserves its reputation as one of the prettiest towns in France and the view from our terrace was nothing short of picture postcard perfect.

Dining outside by the river at night is a joy. The food is excellent, and the winelist would be quite a home in a Paris 5 star hotel. For a fixed price there is a short menu giving three options for starter, entree and dessert. This option provides genuine value for money. If you are going to France this is a place you must dine . Candlelight, the floodlight abbey, the fish jumping in the river, and the quality of the food combine to make this a truly exceptional experience. Perfect wedding anniversary territory .

Slight irritations, and they are slight irritations. The receptionist demanded to see our passports on arrival, claiming this is the law. It isn't. Having to dig through bags to fish them out took some of the lustre off our welcome. At dinner a waiter brought out the wrong order, No apology . My partners warm starter left on the table to get cold while a replacement for mine was found. Irritating and a contrast with the generally warm and professional standard of service found here. Overall 9.5 / 10.

If you can't get a room in the main building ask for a room in the extension across the river. It is a two minute walk away across the bridge and along the opposite bank. Although we didn't see them ( and could therefore be wrong ) the rooms by the parking garage look to be the least attractive as they have an intrrupted view of the river.
