“Gentle atmosphere, nice room, pleasant location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 3, 2012

We just spent this weekend two nights at this lovely but not overly sophisticated family mansion, driving from Switzerland, as to be closer to Europapark for my daughter's birthday weekend. Europapark is 55 minutes drive from the hotel.
Place and people radiate a very positive family mood (nice for kids too with garden etc), professional multilingual owner, extremely nice and hands-own breakfast service (great, spirited girl handling all !), spacious room with decent beds, free large parking space, nice location as Barr has a pretty downtown which I recommend for an evening walk and is surrounded by beautiful vineyards.
Good value for money, breakfast at 9 Euro/person was just excellent.
Minuses ? let me stretch it a little (sorry)...maybe that there is only one soap dispenser in bathroom, no seperate shampoo/soap bottles.; no full time reception so accept that you might have to wait for 10 minutes as we did for check-in, that's all I could find..
We also went to Le Manoir Resto (200 m from hotel). Fair, decent, original local food for honest price ...but not a highly culinary event.

Living in Zurich we decided to go to Alsace over Easter on short notice and chose this hotel thanks to the positive reviews. We were not disappointed, the place is full of charm, the situation ideal close to the center of the village in a separate garden (with the village itself being only 20 minutes from Strasbourg), the rooms are appointed with taste and attention to detail and breakfast was very good. All in all the price of around 100 EUR we paid for two adults and two kids (excl breakfast) was more than fair. Not much on the downside but obviously you have to accept what comes with this kind of house (squeaking floors, not the best sound isolation etc.).

We spent 1 night in this very quaint hotel in Barr. It is a good place to stay if you want to visit Struthof-Natzweiller concentration camp near Schirmeck, which is 1 hours drive through a beautiful forest! Our room, #11 was small but very clean & with an extremely comfortable bed. The bathroom was small also but updated and sparkling clean! Le Manoir is a Chateau built in 1924 with 17 rooms, not fancy but has old world charm, which we love! Owner, Ralphie, was extremely friendly and helpful. He continues to work very hard to restore the house to its former glory, with all the beautiful mouldings and trim. We especially enjoyed the complimentary afternoon tea on the side porch, after walking around the downtown area. That area was disappointing but there were several restaurants to choose from for dinner that night. We ate at an Italian one but I cannot recall the name. Breakfast was a very generous buffet served beautifully with Ralphie attending everyone with a greeting & smile! Our overnight experience there is a lovely memory!

Room Tip: #11 was a good value but other rooms were larger and some with balcony.

We have chosen the hotel for a few days stay in Alsace using the TripaAdvisor rating and the choise was right!

The place is easy to find and overall Barr is a great place on the Alsace wine road. So the Le Manoir was a perfect fit to the place spirit of the town.

The hotel is located in a maison palace of ca 18 centuary and have the rooms made of the much bigger halls (at least our one was half of the bigger place with fireplace covered and shower fit in) - the rooms are very cosy yet relatively small. Yet the balcony from the room was fantastic and was triple the size of the room we slept in.

The owner and his lovely family is very nice person speaking various languages, helpful and advised us on the locality, which was also absolute hit!
Overall pluses are:

Athmosphere of the place - you feel like you are in the movie or a sort of aristocratic freek while going up or down the scale
The view from the balcony - vineyard - ideal picture
Very calm
Free parking
Great owner and staff of the hotel
The way room is set up with the alcave over the bed
Dogs are allowed for a small extra charge

You may get the long stay discount - which is nice to know in advance - we did not!

Some minuses to be aware of

No elevator - would be problematic with limited mobility or big suitcase
Room is relatively small
Not cheap, yet OK for the value
No restaurant in the hotel - need to go downtown
Balcony could be used by the couple of rooms - so privacy may be an issue.

Over all - great feeling of a great place - advice for all who in the area.

We only stayed one night on way to the Loire valley. Really
enjoyed our stay. Barr is a very lovely town, flower boxes everywhere and a very homey feeling. Our room, #12 with
twin beds, large bathroom- tub/shower- with big window as well as two large windows in room. Our room overlooked the
back garden, very quiet and peaceful. If you are a light sleeper you might prefer a room away from the front as there is noise from the main street. It is about 5 to 10 minute walk to the center of town. An absolutely delightful town. Plenty of restaurants and outdoor cafes. Ideal for relaxing and people watching. We had a very good night's sleep and the breakfast was fabulous. The cost is additional to the room price but well worth it. The French, generally, do not go for large breakfast but at the Hotel Le Manoir you will be served a great breakfast. Nice ambience also. We did not have time to visit all the sights, and there are plenty, but plan to return
to the same hotel the next time we visit France. The location is excellent for visits to Strasbourg, Colmar and Mulhouse.
It is not a 5 star hotel, but neither is the price. I am sure you will not be disappointed. Simply a comfortable, clean place
and good breakfast.

Room Tip: Second floor location is best. No elevator though

Second stay in the Alsace region, although a long gap of about twenty years.
This hotel is placed within easy walk of the town's facilities and restaurants and indeed has its own winstub just over the road, two minutes walk away. (Very good)
We stayed in a "romantique" room and whilst maybe smaller than the price demands, it was cosy and well maintained with a balcony. Useable in milder months but not October.
The view over the rooftops to the local vineyards and Voges foot hills beyond were lovely with the autumnal colours of the trees and vines.
Breakfast is several notches above too many french hotels these days who want to get away with a few doubtfully fresh pastries and quassants and some equally dodgy coffee for rip off prices.
Le Manoir puts on a sumptuous spread of cereals, yogharts, fruit, savouries, cheese, eggs etc to cater for the tastes of visitors from over the oceans as well as Europe. For a reasonable cost. I would prefer fresh coffee in a "caffetiere" rather than have it already on the table in a vaccuum jug, but that is a helpful suggestion rather than a criticism.
Staff are friendly, efficient and happy to speak english and no doubt other lingos.
We found the room quiet, but that was with the doors shut. Maybe in summer when doors are open and there is more tourist traffic from adjacent town main roads, this could be an issue.
The hotel itself is very quiet and grand in a cosy way.
Whilst there is no bar, drinks are available at sensible prices.
We particularly enjoyed our complementary afternoon tea in the salon, an English tradition now worldwide. luverly!
