“Great Hotel but no English spoken”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2014

The Best Western was a lovely hotel to stay in. The room was great. However, staying in a quadruple room meant technically 2 rooms with only 1 air conditioning in 1 room and the other without. Considering the heat, this wasn't the best. But other than that, the room was great, comfortable beds, lovely bathroom - towels included, flat screen tv etc.
The only other trouble had was that we could not speak French/Italian and the receptionist could not speak English

although clean and good located, too many details made our stay flawed. WiFi not working supposely due to my device, very expensive breakfast (but good), perilous parking lot path (and expensive), and so on... For the same price and same hotel franchise, Ajaccio Amirauté is much better! (we stayed at both).

I stayed a weekend in August at the Alcyon in Porto-Vecchio. My expectations were not exactly high. The Mediterranean in the high season is often overcroweded, overpriced, and marred by poor service provided by temp staff, but the Alcyon in Porto-Vecchio was surprisingly o.k. The suite room was relatively small, but well equipped and well kept. Same for the bathroom. It was small, but had a modern feel and was in good shape. The staff was friendly and efficient; not as competent as one would hope, but this is France is August.....The breakfast bar is up on the top floor overlooking the bay of Porto Vecchio. You can sit outside and have b/fast overlooking the bay, which is very pleasant. Breakfast was a bit chaotic, as the Portuguese temp staff struggled to keep the buffet restocked, but once you got your cafe au lait and croissant it was an extremely nice place to hang out. 160 Euro/night is not a lot of money in this part of the world in the middle of August, so I did not feel ripped off. However, I would not recommend this place for stays longer than a few days. It gets depressing quickly. Parking is Euro 10-12/night extra in the underground parking garage of a property 5 mins away.

Room Tip: Beware, lower floors are very dark

I stayed here with my parents in late August 2012 and we were treated horribly. We had travelled all the way from Australia and tried our best with French language but customer service should be universal at this type of establishment and the reception staff certainly need a lesson in that! It was up to 40 degrees and we were paying more than 300 euro a night but had no access to a fridge. When we asked to keep some drinks cool for one hour, the chief manager shouted at us and generally treated us like scum. We asked if our laundry would be ready in the morning as we were leaving early and despite giving it 36 hours prior, they shrugged their shoulders and acted as though they couldn't care less. The next morning they tried to charge us double despite having made a deposit well in advance to secure this reservation. All in all, unacceptable! Steer clear.

Hello,

Quite expensive (room costing 252 Euro/night), average standard, and horribly arrogant management.

We woke up with hundreds of ants in our bed - as we were travelling with kids (4 years old and 2 months old) we were horrified, seeing the ants crawling inside our pillows, on our sons who both got bitten and all over the babymilk we had saved for such long time.

They said this had never happened before - but we found insect repellants under the bed and inside one closet. They know the hotel is ant infested.

Management offered us a free breakfast for the next three days and a free parking - a total worth of 90 Euro - The breakfast was really the worst breakfast I have ever had at a hotel and free parking was available at walking distance. - all in all a worthless compensation. Normal courtesy is not having to pay for a room full of biting ants, but management said new room + horrible breakfast was the only thing they could do for us - take it or leave it.

I don't recommend this hotel to anyone.

Room Tip: in another hotel.

The room we were first given was entirely too small for two adults. In order to have enough space for us and our luggage, our only choice was to pay an additional 35 euro per night. This included a separate entry room that was very dark and had absolutely no circulation. In fact, we were unable to even stay inside the room during the day because there was nothing but a single window that opened to a small area surrounded by walls so there was no air circulation at all. And at night, we couldn't open the window for the bugs. $182 a night for this is ridiculous! The front desk staff was truly very sorry but no offer of a more acceptable room, or any solution or adjustment. The owner was downright rude. Has to be one of the worst Best Westerns we've experienced anywhere in the world. Really too bad because the town of Porto Vecchio was one of the best towns we visited on this month long adventure.

Room Tip: Go elsewhere.

I stayed two nights at this hotel in October 2011. The room was somewhat small for a couple. In my case I only spent the whole day out so I only stopped there to sleep. In this sense, it was ok. The hotel was very quiet, very clean. Another good thing was the parking in front of the hotel, included in the rate. Personnel was very kind, helpful and spoke several languages. Well located close to the old city and in the commercial area.
