“Avoid this place...”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2011

This place is best avoided unless you like cats trying to share your room and breakfast! It is run down, there is no bar oir play area as suggested online; in reality, it feels like it is about to go bust. Added to this, the owner/ boss is extremely unhelpful. The big room was the only saving grace (albeit with a broken bed) but we couldn't open the French windows because if we did the cats would come into the room. They sat outside mewing constantly and by the end my son was developing cat phobia! Dog muck littered the grounds and as others have said, the breakfasts were grim. It could be so beautiful but at the moment, feels really really ghoulish. The self catered option had a cigarette stubbed out in the sink and spiders on the walls... We staye d because we thought we had paid with our card prior to arriving.. but left one night early having found that there were plenty of rooms still available on the island..

This hotel has many ammenities that could make it a lovely place to stay. However, on arrival we had to wait a considerable time whilst the hotelier found the key to our room.
When we were showed to our room, one could see little reason why they had even looked for the key, it was extremly difficult to make the room secure. The main door did not lock at all, the only door that offered some security was a wooden 'barn type' door with a metal latch that slid into a gap in the stone wall. This alone would have been a problem, we were travelling with our little girl!
The room had clearly experienced a leak, and a large damp patch was evident on the ceiling and outside wall. The room also smelt strongly of damp. The beds were old and lacked any kind of support, both the double and the single bed's matresses were past reasonable use.
The bathroom had a shower that worked ok, but one had to step straight out onto tiles that were infact wall tiles, not floor tiles - so an immediate safety issue was there.
We stayed because we had no where else to stay for our final night on the island, I felt upset that they felt happy to charge people for such poor conditions.
The hotel has lovely gardens, the breakfast was pleasent, served in the garden - there is potential, but certainly not being seen at present.
I would not recommend this hotel on the security issue alone - the other issues are additional.
