“An oasis of tranquillity close to Chiang Mai city centre”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 15, 2014

This peaceful and very beautiful accommodation is ideal for visitors who wish to be close to the centre of Chiang Mai and yet to have a quiet retreat to relax in after a day's exploration of the city. 'Secret Garden' is not really 'in' Doi Saket at all but is a CHIANG MAI destination, situated close to a junction providing an easy, short drive straight along a radial road right up to the walls of the old moated city - perfect for those who wish to combine busy days of tourism with enjoyment of tranquil evenings in the delightful atmosphere created by Peter and family.

Room Tip: All 'Secret Garden' rooms are very carefully located comfortable and are maintained to a hig...

Dear David ,
Dear David ,
Thanks a lot for remembering us , and to point out to the other travellers that we are much closer to Chiang Mai than the village of Doi Saket . We would have never thought that so many of the guests who stayed with us this year and last year wrote to tripadvisor ( almost 300 !!! ) to put us back on Chiang ai , but it seems we lost the battle . The positive side is that this morale support convinced us not to give up , and start again from scratch in August .
Thanks again , we really appreciate it .
Regards from Pai and Isabel

I stayed there for three nights when we traveled to Chiangmai. We know that they r not in the center of the city, but the environment and our experience made up all the distance from the guest house to the downtown! It's the most interesting guest house I've ever been to! I love this place and will definitely go back if I travel to Chiangmai again! So please just keep them in the sort way as they were before, so that ppl who r looking for the special experience can find this awesome place! Thx! Love peter and all the lovely ppl there!

Lots of love from the Secret Garden to Shenzhen !!
We are very happy you enjoyed your stay at our Secret Garden , and we would be glad to meet you again if you ever shall come back to Chiang Mai . We hope we will still be around then .
Temperature is climbing very fast here at the moment , no more cool nights like when you were here with us , and we are glad to be in Europe by next week , with cooler Spring weather . Isabel , who helped me a lot over the last weeks , will come with us , and together we will try to find ways to cope with the actual difficult situation . When one door closes , there is always another one opening , at least that's what we hope for .
Greetings from the Secret Garden Three

The Secret Garden is simply the best place to stay when visiting Chiang Mai. A short distance by bus or scooter from the main centre. A lovely country oasis with the nicest possible hosts and amazing delicious food. My husband and i highly recommend using the Secret Garden as a base for your stay in Chiang Mai. We stayed here in November 2012

Greetings from Chiang Mai to Johannesburg !!
We really appreciate that you took the time to write again , thank you so much !!
Even if they don't put us back on Chiang Mai , which they probably won't , all the mails and reviews we received over the last four weeks have been a huge help for us . We never expected that our former guests would care so much . It was a pleasant surprise , when even Steve Kaufer , the CEO of tripadvisor , came back to us with a very friendly , personal mail . Over the past weeks we have been brainstorming what to do , hopefully we will find a way to keep the Secret Garden alive .
Thanks again for not forgetting about us
All the best to you and your family , regards from Pai and Isabel
Peter

We stayed in Secret garden in February last year. It was a fabulous family experience ! The place is very special, quiet and our family bungalow was perfect for the 5 of us. Peter, Pai and Isabel are wonderful hosts and made our stay very comfortable. The diner buffet was a surprise everyday and we all loved Pai's delicious food. We will definitely stay there if we come back to Chiang Mai ! Don't hesitate a minute if you go to Chiang Mai and if you are looking for something authentic.

Dear Stephanie ,
So good to hear from you again ! Sorry to answer late , but , as mentioned before , the last weeks have been difficult , I delegated a lot to Isabel , she has been a great help . Each single review is important for us , not just business wise , but to get us out of this big black hole we seem to be in at the moment . During our summer break we will look for possible ways to advertise our Secret Garden . It would be a shame if nobody could ever read all these wonderful reviews again . We will leave for Europe next week , maybe it's a good idea to be physically away from the Secret Garden for some time . Our staff will be here all the time , painting , cleaning , repairing etc.
Have a great time , wish us luck

The Secret Garden is truly wonderful. The four of us (two couples) stayed in the Sunflower house (top floor). We had two bedrooms, two baths & a central living room and efficiency kitchen to share. All of the food is delicious and the small resort is charming. We rode bikes to and from our rooms to the kitchen and also out in the surrounding countryside...just lovely...wish we had done that each morning for exercise. The surrounding rice paddies are gorgeous. We found the Secret Garden on trip advisor under Chiang Mai proper. It was very clear to us in our direct emails with Peter the owner that his property was about 20 minutes outside of the city central. That is just what I wanted!! However, now Trip Advisor has moved their property information to Chiang Mai province....I would never have found them and neither will most travelers going to Chiang Mai if this continues to be where they are listed! Please trip advisor.....move them back to Chiang Mai. Thank you Peter and family & staff for making our stay SUPER!! We hope to come back someday.

Room Tip: They are all charming!!

I loved my stay! :) Not only was it a beautiful and peaceful setting, with birds chirping everyday, it was also VERY accommodating for my extremely long list of allergies. They went out of their way to ensure I could enjoy supper alongside my friend every evening. Overall, this place was FANTASIC...they truly went above and beyond in ensuring our stay was awesome.

Hi Kimberley,

It says you were here in April, so you know how hot it is here. I have someone visiting right now, so I wasn't around all the time, but I do remember two girls here, and one of you having quite a few allergies. I think I checked you out of your room as well? :) Anyway I'm happy we could cater to your allergies. I myself don't have any allergies at all, so I can't imagine what it would be like to travel and having to go through the trouble and making sure nothing you can't eat is in your food. We just bought some new flowers the other day and added them to the garden, even more flowers now!!The garden looks really nice at the moment, everything is blooming. We leave for Europe soon, we hope we can get everything settled and ready before we leave. Thank you for appreciating what we do, or mainly for noticing. I hope the rest of your travels went well, and hope you had a lovely Easter Weekend,

Much love from all of us,

Isabel

This is a wonderful, peaceful refuge for those seeking respite from the business of downtown Chiang Mai. Don't let the "Doi Saket" location dissuade you; the hosts will teach you how to make the easy trip by local shuttle to Chiang Mai proper, and will drive you to the local shuttle stop themselves (where you can also bank and shop for conveniences if you don't want to go all the way into downtown Chiang Mai). You will be able to enjoy the excitement of the city, as well as the beautiful landscaped oasis of the Secret Garden, with elaborate European breakfasts and Thai dinners, and the option to just lounge by the pool or in the shade with a book from the excellent library, treating yourself to a lime Coke or a beer. The hosts will help you book excursions and adventures of your choice, and the wonderful staff will keep you comfortable. This is not a charmless, disinfected, pesticided hotel but a beautiful rural setting full of natural elements, good company and unforgettable character and ambiance.

Dear "Grey Parrot" ,
Thanks a lot for trying to help us after tripadvisor put us on Doisaket . It will be difficult for the next season , but we decided not to give up , it would be a shame after building up our Secret Garden over the last seven years . As you said , it's easy to reach downtown Chiang Mai , and it's nice to come back "home" to the countryside in the evening . We will close early this year , next week we will fly to Europe for our summer break . It's getting too hot here now , not like when you stayed with us in January , April and May are the hottest months of the year .
Thanks again for coming to our place , and thanks for taking the time to write a very nice review
Greetings from Pai and Isabel
