“Escape to Horizon...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 15, 2013

Stayed at Horizon Village for 3 nights. Located approximately 15km (20mins) from Chiang Mai town. It was build in a huge land where it has a botanical garden, mini zoo, convention center, hot air balloon service, & few restaurants in it. This would be a great place for people is looking for a quiet and peaceful holiday outing. If you are hunting for local/street food there is nothing within walking distance. Need to take shuttle into Chiang Mai town. This is mainly for those wanting a breakaway from hectic busy places.
Important: If you are looking of being mobile, walking around searching for tour offers, local food hunting, night life entertainment, etc... - this may not be the right place.

There is free shuttle service provided by hotel (Hotel –> Night Market/city center) for their guests (note: only twice a day, 10am & 7pm towards town and return is just once around 10~10.30pm)
Note: make reservation at front desk 2hours prior if you plan to use their shuttle service. Seat are limited – 10 seater van. Special arrangement also can be made for pickup from town and charges would be 450baht one way.

Hotel staffs are exceptional; they are very kind and helpful 24/7. We had experienced power interruption to our room; assistant came to the room within minutes after we called the front desk.

Buffet breakfast served was pretty good as well. Since there are several restaurants in the hotel compound, breakfast may not be served at the same place every day. Alike ‘Thong Goaw’ restaurant, it’s quite a distance to walk from the lobby, however its good exercise. 

Botanical garden is right behind the villas. For outsider ticket will be imposed however for hotel guests its free.
Initially I was expecting lots of flower around, in fact its more green than red..  Nevertheless it is still a beautiful place to have a morning walk or jog.

Ask the hotel upfront if they provide any special package. I have taken “Green Season promo” which include one day elephant safari tour and one Thai dinner set (simply exquisite). It is worth it if you choose to have the itinerary given. If you would like to book the room only, surely website like ‘Agoda.com’ provides better deal.

In summary, Horizon Village is a perfect place to stay. Simply could not find reasons not to stay here.

Room Tip: I stayed at room #61, ground floor facing the botanical garden.. Lots of green.. *do not open the b...

I was disappointed with my stay in at Horizon.

The hotel is very far away from Chiang Mai and only offers two vans per day into town. Taxis are very expensive.

The breakfast restaurant was a huge impersonal congress hall ballroom that reflected very badly on the inviting and friendly atmosphere of the hotel. It felt like a school cafeteria.

They moved the breakfast after one day from the lovely restaurant overlooking the lake in the resort to the congress hall because the staff complained there was condensation dripping from the roof. They could easily have positioned the tables so the little water dripping from the roof would not drip on the tables. It was a very bad choice to be moved to that horrible breakfast barn.

The restaurant is advertised to close at 9.30. When I arrived at 9.20 I was told the kitchen was closed, even though there was still clients. The problem is there is nowhere decent to go at that time of night in Doi Saket.

The Deluxe Room was lovely facing the lake however, the standard rooms had no screens on the doors and therefore one could not keep the window open at night without attracting mosquitoes to the room.

I stayed in a Deluxe room my first two nights and then moved to a standard room. The gentleman who made my booking informed me that we would pay for three nights and stay the fourth night for free. When we checked out we were informed that the promotion didn't apply to standard rooms. This is not what we were told when we made the booking. If so, I would have stayed in the deluxe room for the same price paid for the standard room. The reception staff was inflexible and not very friendly.

And my final issue is the Karaoke bar right near the resort. Every night we suffered through the most horrible singing possible. Can't they lower the volume on their system so that there is some peace and quiet at night? After all that's why clients come all the way to Doi Saket.

Probably a better choice for seminars and management meetings, etc.

Room Tip: Deluxe room facing the lake is quiet and well appointed.

Because of last minute booking we had to take another than our regular room this time. Service and cleanliness were the same as we were used to the times before. So we could enjoy our vacation for the umpteenth time in the beautiful surroundings of the Horizon.

Room Tip: the visited rooms have the same standard

We had 3 rooms...my husband and I were in one, my mom and daughter in another, and our other 3 children in the a connecting room. We stayed 3 nights, and thoroughly enjoyed it! The place is amazing....the gardens fabulously done. Breakfast was included and was very good...everything from Thai to fruit to cereal and yogurt to eggs cooked to order. Pools were nice, restaurant was a pleasant surprise in terms of quality of food and cost. We'd definitely stay there again!

Just had a 3 days management meeting at Horizon. The room is very clean which is very important for me each time i need to organize oversea meeting.
The surrounding of the hotel is beautiful. As i was the organizer, i didnt have any time to go into the garden, but however from my guests feedback, the garden is very beautiful.
Just need to improve on breakfast. Food were limited and quit salty. But however the lunch, dinner and BBQ meal were beautiful.
The service from the hotel were great too. Everyone is very friendly.
As for the fitness centre, some of the guests had complain that it started too late.

Hotel & amenities - the grounds of this hotel are immaculately presented, the botanical gardens are both expansive and beautiful and are a real plus point with respect to the hotel. The two pools are very nice and are kept clean and tidy, however the pool bar was not open throughout our stay and to get a drink was more difficult than it needed to be. The WiFi does not work in the rooms and it is with an additional charge.

Location - very very far from Chiang mai. As a base to explore Chiang mai I would definitely avoid this hotel unless more regular shuttles are made available. 2 shuttles per day, one at 11am and one at 10 pm, limited to ten people per trip is simply not good enough. In addition the hotel as mentioned in another review attempts to charge 450 baht per trip per taxi which is overpriced. We got a regular taxi to and from the hotel in a taxi meter for 300-350 baht.

Service - an example of the hotels service was on New years eve, no shuttle service was available, nor the hotels taxi service, when we enquired about getting a taxi they did not offer to help but merely said no taxis were available. We rang around ourselves but couldn't get a taxi unfortunately and were unable to get into Chiang mai. The service at the front desk, predominantly in the evenings, was unfriendly, unhelpful and downright rude on occasion with the staff coming across like every time we asked about something we had burdened them significantly. The odd thing is with this hotel is their are quite so many staff, but they don't appear to be well coordinated, well drilled or happy to help nor can they speak english.

This hotel and grounds are lovely, including a nice mini zoo, and the potential for this hotel to be excellent is there but it is let down by the terrible service. If the service on offer was to a good standard, and I include the shuttle buses in this which would alleviate issues with location then this would be a very very nice hotel. However as it stands I would not recommend this hotel and I would not visit again either.

It's worth noting that arranged day trips will not pick up from this hotel given the hotels location.

Sorry with the distance from downtown to the resort ,actually it is just 10.5 km. and also we have twice free transportation to town. free pick up fr.the airport, public transportation (only 20 baht) in front of the resort .On New year eve we have dinner party for in house guests, everybody were happy to be at the resort because it was crowded in town. Please take a look from the other resort the guests must be charged for the transportation fee but for us it is free of charged.About the pool bar you can order whatever you want to have or drink from the front desk which is located just 2-3 foot steps. We must apologise if our service was not met your high requirement. So sorry if we made your stay were not comfortable.

My mom and I stayed at Horizon Village for 2 nights in December 2012. I love the room! The room are very nice, beautiful, and comfy, as well as full with room amenities. The greenery surroundings are completely perfect. Very relaxing and quiet. But my experience at this resort could have been more wonderful if it's not because of the service. Hotel staffs looked a bit unfriendly with not much smile though. The shuttle service scheduled to town is CRAP, it's not even scheduled as its only one round at 7pm to town and 10pm back to hotel. And even worse, there's only one vehicle which can cater up to 10 people. Then you need to book it in advance, the staff said I could book up to 2 hours in advance, but when I did, it's already fully booked. This limit-to-10-people idea was crap, as its like in the end the hotel seems like wanting you to pay more for their transfers which is so expensive about 450 baht to town and even just one way too. The hotel location is very very far away, which I actually do not mind, if only they could have provided better shuttle service schedule. At least twice per round would make it better though. When I complained to the staff, they not even try to be helpful much and talk a bit unfriendly. So after 2 days there, I couldn't wait to leave this hotel. I wouldn't recommend anyone to stay there. And surely I wouldn't return!
