“This is what its about”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 14, 2011

The few bad reviews from members are about location but I think it is the hotel's location that makes it so special.
Rooms are large and clean. Services is good and prices are reasonable. Breakfast and other meals are very good. However Thailand is full of hotels that offer this and it is the extra that Horizon brings to the party that sets it apart.
It is a good distance from Chiang Mai but we never had any problem in getting tour operators to pick us up. I wouldn't have thought that a hotel closer to Chiang Mai could have boasted botanical gardens and its own zoo.
We spent 5 nights at the Horizon - the first was after a day's travelling, the second was after a day's touring and the third was after a day with the elephants. After all these we were glad of the peace and to eat at the hotel. The forth day was a chance to lounge around the pool (choice of 3) and explore the gardens and zoo. I rate the chance to hand feed deer, camels etc. higher than being closer to night life. I might have felt different if the restaurant was rubbish but it wasn't. That night we caught the shuttle bus into Chiang Mai and had plenty of time to have something to eat and visit the night market. The next day it was touring again and we ate at the hotel.
We were sorry to leave to continue our travels.

I have had the good fortune of working with this exquisite resort on multiple occasions and was never disappointed by the friendliness, their ready-to-help attitude, and excellent service including the decor and cleanliness of their superb 5-Star quality comparable rooms and facilities.

Set on the outskirts of beautiful Chiang Mai with a view of the luscious Doi Suthep Mountain range peace and quiet is an immediate experience. As you prepare to complete the check-in procedure a friendly member of staff offers you a welcome Thai Herbal drink, the ingredients of which come from their very own herbal garden on site.

Wait till your see the rooms! Magnificent and tastefully decorated with a mixture of pure Lanna style and modern amenities. Extremely clean and one almost hesitates to occupy the room so as not to disturb the layout. Yes, very comfortable indeed and oh, so quiet too. If you are lucky to get a room overlooking the water you can spend hours watching the birds and the swans and even some large fish who also come to enjoy the safety at Horizon.

The resort is rather extensive with three themed dinning halls, a huge open-air breakfast lounge, salt-water swimming pools, a fitness center and even an on-site Thai traditional Massage Parlor. I mean, they spoil you rotten as their guests. Thai hospitality at its best. The boys loved the salt-water pools and the labyrinth in the Botanic Garden. We couldn't get them out most of the time. Perfect service from a very attentive and friendly staff.

What's more, as a resort guest you have free access to their Botanic Garden! Words cannot begin to describe this amazing expanse of true natural beauty. Filled with countless rare plants, trees and flowers their 65 plus gardeners maintain a pristine natural park. Seeing is believing.

Check out the Horizon Village & Resort next time your plans include Chiang Mai - you will not be disappointed.

S. M.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms with a lakeside view and you won't be sorry.

We have been to this resort many times over the past few years, mostly in the capacity of conferences. Our most recent visit occurred when we hosted a conference for a small group of international workers from an Australian company. There are a number of advantages to choosing this resort: exceptionally clean rooms, courteous staff, sparkling clean pools (three of them), and delicious food served in a lovely dining area which overlooks a tranquil pool with water lilies and koi fish. The breakfast buffet has variety and healthy choices of fruits/breads during the high season or if you come with a group. However, during low season the choices are extremely limited- more like a set menu American breakfast. The best advantage of this resort is the connection to the botanical gardens which guests can access anytime they wish.

The location far from town is perfect for groups any size up to about 60 people wishing to focus on team building or for families/couples wanting to get away from the traffic and noise of a city. On the weekends the gardens fill up with local Thai families who come to bicycle and picnic, but the resort rooms are separated by a lake and a canal so guests staying over the weekend still have a sense of privacy away from the crowd. On Saturdays, Sundays and holidays the gardens offer an inexpensive lunch buffet (currently 160 baht per adult, or $5.20 US dollars/ 3.80 euros) with a nice variety of Thai dishes, noodles and fruit. There is also a coffee shop on the road just outside the resort.

The only real disadvantage to Horizon village is that there are no other shops nearby - you have to catch a public songtaew (a two seat truck) and go down the road about a kilometer to reach the nearest 7-11 and market. If you don't speak Thai, or don't have your own vehicle you would be advised to stock up on personal supplies before you come. Or, plan to catch the resort transport into the night market once and get what you need there.

Overall a great location for conferences, groups, a family vacation or a couples retreat.

Room Tip: Standard rooms are cleaner, brighter, better designed and just as close to a lovely pool as the delu...

This is a very special destination for business - family events.... or a get-away weekend. Lovely pool areas, excellent food at several restaurants, bike rental, small zoo, botanical gardens, spa, and everything is clean! Helpful and friendly staff who aim to please and are very accommodating. A free Shuttle to the night market each night! Great meeting rooms and facilities.

We as Refresh Programs have entertained across cultural workers for three years at Horizon Village Resort. Words cannot express our satisfaction and our guests have said the same thing. Horizon is goes above and beyond any other place we have been for this program. We are having our 2012 program on 2 Jul to 13 July. We are more than happy with the Thia staff, accomodations, beautiful bobtanical gardens, pool, and wonderful meals. You can touch all of Chiang Mai just by asking the front desk. Life is easy at Horizon Village. The rates are great for individuals and groups. (Dr. Lee, logistics for Heartstream Resources & Refresh!.) Pick up at the airport is free.

Room Tip: Rooms are newer, beautiful, and well cared for. Staff services are wonderful.

This was our company's second year using the Horizon Village facilities for our conference. We love the clean, peaceful setting and friendly, efficient service. The management worked hard to make our experience a positive and productive one. Our families feel safe and well cared for. We will be back again.

Beautiful Botanic garden and zoo resort, we just stated 3 nights it was amazing, my only regret is we didn't stay longer, but shall return time and again in the future.
If you want a relaxing, peaceful and quite vacation, this is the place to stay, its a short distance north of chiange mai set in 100's of acres of land, beautifully landscaped with lakes and rivers dotted around, you can rent bikes on the premises and ride around the gardens.
There's camels, deers and lots of animals you can feed, swans, ducks, peakocks and more. They have swan pedal boats and canoes on the lake, three outdoor pools, gym and a big childrens playground so plenty to do for all the family, not forgeting there own museum with lots of interesting antique's
The accommodation is very good to Lana style furnished with cable tv, wifi and powerful showers.
The buffet breackfast is fantastic, everything you need to get you energised for your day of adventure, they also have other restaraunts and the food was amazing and not expensive
We had a great 2 hour massage in the spa

Room Tip: junior suites overlook the lake
