“Bank Holiday 3 day break”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2013

W e stayed from 24th to the 26th August - married couple. It was lovely the room was 'nice' but the Staff from he Pro Shop to the Bar and Restaurant can't do enough to make you comfortable and well looked after. The food is excellent. Extensive breakfast choices from fresh orange juice, cereals to full English but the evening meal is excellent so well presented & lovely menu choices. The Course is hard but so enjoyable because of the terrific views. This is our third year and we will definitely go again it's very good value for money.

Room Tip: The rooms are all at the end of the building and much the same so no prteference.

Ten of us on the £79 deal for golf, dinner, 4 pint voucher, b&b, golf.

It is often said that a hotel breakfast, or indeed the whole experience, is defined by the quality of the sausage. After a nervous wait it was therefore disappointing to discover that the sausage was near the bottom of the scale, the bottom being the pinky Richmond Irish recipe type - these were the near perfect cylinders with two crusty hemispheres at each end that have been deep-fried from frozen. However, as every sausage-phile knows, this situation can be recovered by making sure they are a little overdone, and this was the case. Bacon comes next, and a hungover golfer is always relieved to receive it well-cooked and crispy, which it indeed was. The tomatoes were just about cooked enough - they've got to go soft to avoid there being any echoes of salad in the feel of the breakfast, and a bit of caramelisation is welcome but not necessary. Perhaps it was the lack of the latter that put off the majority of the group. I forgot to ask for no mushrooms, which is my own fault, but they should always be kept well away from the beans in any circumstance, using something solid like the sausage, bacon or hash brown as a barrier. Hash browns - yes, any quality of hash brown is welcome on the breakfast plate, but I prefer the chunkier ones with lumpy potato inside and on the crust. My neighbour preferred this smoother version, but I was happy to tuck in. Now, the egg was probably the feature that pushed my meal comfortably into the positive (although my neighbours request for "vegetarian breakfast with no eggs" appeared with 2 eggs). I love being provided with my egg on toast, rather than having to construct my own stack, struggling with knife and fork and a slippery egg. The egg was well-cooked, sufficiently grease-free and served promptly so that there was no sign of sog on the toast when it arrived. My neighbour and I agreed that replacing the toast with fried bread would have been a masterstroke, but not everyone would agree with that.

PS - great value, the staff are really friendly, the course is interesting but quite challenging especially the 9th green which I quite enjoyed, the dinner was decent enough, the squash court needs a clean to get the dust off the floor, the rooms are a bit shabby but who cares at this price and at this kind of event.

Stayed with a group of friends for a golf break. Very good value for money, golf course tricky, greens fast as it hadn't rained for a few days. Staff very friendly and helpful. The package was excellent value for money. We did try the snooker but were all too tired after a days golf to try the squash courts!! The food was excellent and there was something for everyone.

Stayed here with a group of friends for 3 nights and four rounds of golf in April. The golf course is in very good condition considering it was under three foot of snow three weeks before we arrived. Yes the greens are very hard to read and fast and the holes placed in horrible positions. The club house has a good range of draught beer and very good food, with frendly staff serving you. The down side is the accommodation - it is in urgent need of a refit, however don't let this put you off as it is very good value for the overall package.

Stayed here with a group of friends for 3 nights and 4 rounds in April. The rooms are basic but need a good refresh especially in the bathrooms where they all seemed to have a stain above the bath where water had been leaking through. In my bathroom there was water from the upstairs room coming through the light fitting.
The hilly course was quite tough with the holes in precarious positions on greens that were difficult to read. Even the staff admitted that they don't look after the course properly.
This place is in the middle of nowhere so if you go here you are stuck, but they have a good deal with the drinks vouchers and the bar is well stocked.
The best bit about this place is the food. Always cooked fresh and served by attentive staff.
Worth the trip but I would not go back unless they have a refit and put the heating on.

This is a golf hotel for use of a very good golf course. All standards of golfers will find the golf course presents a variety of difficulties, especially the tree lined fairways, but outright beginners beware. The rate of room, B & B, golf and drinks voucher is generous and I have taken advantage of similar offers across the country. The chef is a Brazilian so offers a superb choice for evening meal, which offers something delicious for everyone. As for those who would prefer with wives, female partners etc the management are willing and able to arrange a day that the ladies will enjoy. This venue would be ideal to spend a couple of days enjoying the challenges of a well designed golf course and then relaxing in a welcoming and friendly environment.

This is no hotel, its a countryside golf club with a few rooms. The room was OK, clean and functional but there was no more to the hotel than that, picture a poorly maintained, slightly musty golf club set in agricultural grounds and you have the picture. The food however was quite good, served in the bar area, breakfast good and the dinner quite reasonable although expensive for a golf club. There are no facilities you associate with a hotel, no spa, gym, pool, sauna, newspapers etc.
The course was uninhabited, fairway grass too long and greens poorly kept, I understand it improves during the summer but that doesn't help today. The golf was very hard and there are too many trees to get trapped behind, greens hard to read and the flag positions in some very odd places. The golf pro closed up and went home at 4.30 and the man behind the bar followed a little later leaving the barman on duty. He did a fine job and he was the best part of a poor place. I don't think they have enough revenue to do much to the place but to call it a hotel is just wrong, a better description is a b&b.
