“Make sure you do not stay in room 222”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2013

We attended a wedding and booked our room in February 2013 for the 31 August Wedding. The wedding was very good but we were very disappointed with our room which was very hot. The room was small and because it was in the roof also had a sloping ceiling. The en suite was also small but was even hotter. Just leaving the bedroom for the corridor you could feel the temperature change. I would also say that there were some stains on the quilt cover and a dead wasp in the bed. I can only describe the room as a broom cupboard.
I think £129 for the room was an insult it was worse than staying in a travel lodge. The reduced rate offered on complaining was still £107. My son also stayed and they had a better room so there are good rooms but how this 4 Star hotel can charge so much for the rooms on the second floor which are basically in the loft I do not understand. Room 222 should be avoided by all. If you have to stay in the hotel in this room I would ask for another room.

Room Tip: Avoid 222 and quite possibly any on second floor

Dear Guest, thank you for your review. I am delighted that you had a great time when attending the wedding, but please accept my apologies if the bedroom wasn’t to your liking. Indeed we have a choice of bedroom and we can make sure that an alternative room is allocated to you during your next visit. I hope that during your next visit you will be able to make the most of our facilities and perhaps make the most of the fantastic deals that we have on our Website.
I am looking forward to welcoming you back very soon.

Yours Sincerely,

Stayed here for 3 nights as a group of 3. We had twin rooms next door to each other, both rooms had lovely views of the golf course and the beautiful surrounding countryside and the rooms were spacious and comfortable. The real strength of this hotel is the excellent staff, we found everyone to be very friendly and helpful, not one member of staff walked past us without saying hello, which made for a nice atmosphere. They should be congratulated on their efforts. We had one complaint when we ate in the hotel restaurant, we ordered burgers and chips priced at £15 each. When the food arrived we had 9 chips each, which we felt was a bit on the mean side. When we complained to one of the waitresses she went away to the kitchen and came back to say the chef said we could have more if we paid for them which we declined. A short while later the restaurant manager came to talk to us and apologised that we hadn't been offered more chips for free, he then offered us more chips, free desserts or some drinks, so we accepted some drinks. Again he was really friendly and helpful. Thereafter we ate elsewhere which suited us. There is an excellent pub in the village of Hellidon which served great food and the staff and regulars were really friendly. We used the gym which has a good range of equipment. The pool area was slightly disappointing as quite small and busy but it was kept very clean and temperature was good. We paid £107 each for 3 nights b & b which represented excellent value in our opinion and the location is great to explore Warwickshire. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

Room Tip: 115 & 117 had great views.

I went here for the second time and found that they had improved on the previous year. Staff were really friendly and helpful and all remembered us from the previous year which make us feel really welcome from the barstaff to the staff in the spa and this type of customer services should be made and example of in other hotels and they put all of them to shame. I did not think they could do it but the treatments in the spa were alot better than the previous year and for anyone going I would recommend the mud wrap and would definetly have one next time I go. Improvements have been noted in a few areas around the pool area and changing room and you could see that this was still underway without disturbing the guests. Outside area for sitting round the back would be good so that guests could sit and drink and enjoy the wonderful views in the good weather and also fans available in the rooms as they were too hot. I had a wonderful time and am looking foward to booking and going next year

Me and my friends stayed for a one night spa break on the 23rd of August till the 24th of August. We had an amazing night stay with receiving out treatments at the right time, because last time they changes out times for out treatments about 5 or 6 times. But this year it was extremely better. I think this is because they have new management within the hotel which has made a big difference.

Last year when we stayed with a party of 8 on a Saturday, When we got their we received lunch like this time but last year it was a buffet lunch because there was over 20 guests, what we receive this time was minimal compared to a buffet because all you got was lunch in a box and if you didn't like tomatoes you were bugged because that what was in the two different wraps.
swimming area and bowling area has had a makeover and looking much much better.Spa was much better with treatments this is because they tested out the oils on use to find out what ones we likes and wanted them to use on us. They did not do this last year.

Things they can improve on:

Food -- A better variety of food if they are going to proceed with a lunch in a box. because there is only to different types more selection would be MUCH MUCH better.

Swimming Pool and changing rooms-- could invest in little tumble machines/ spinners to spin out all water/dry swimming costume because if you are staying more than 1 night you have to go swimming the next day with a wet costume because there is no where to dry them and it is not very nice.

Spa and gym-- ask the gym to keep the noise down and music down because they were very loud and it is meant to be a relaxing and peaceful place.

Overall a very nice experience and would be an excellent spa and hotel if they improved on the things I have suggested. Thanks for a good experience.

We stayed the night before attending an event locally. This hotel caters for weddings, so being a Saturday night in July we arrived late evening to find a merry group of wedding guests loitering 'en masse' in front of the main entrance to the building and loud music thumping inside - which didn't give the best first impression. The young lady on reception was excellent and made us feel very welcome, assuring us that the music would stop at 11pm, which it did so our sleep was not interrupted even if we were not able to sit quietly and read or watch tv beforehand.

The room itself was slightly disappointing for a 'Superior' room with a view of a stairwell and a courtyard, paper peeling off the walls and could perhaps have benefitted from the odd picture to make it feel less bland, although the bathroom was a generous size and quality and the bed comfortable. Once again, I'll echo earlier reviews that mention lack of air conditioning so our room was warmer than we'd have liked during July's heatwave.

There was an excellent choice of food for breakfast and we enjoyed ours at a table overlooking the golf course.

We stayed at the hotel as part of a group of ten golfers.

My main criticism was that our twin room was very small but we did not spend much time there!

The course consists of three loops of nine holes and during our stay we played three 18 hole rounds using different combinations. The course is interesting but pretty steep in places and might not suit some people.

Our entire party were impressed by the restaurant and the hotel is to be complimented for the quality of its food and its staff. The breakfast was buffet style but the quality was good

The Terrace Bar is ideal for golfing parties such as ourselves with its Big Screen TV, Table Football, Darts and Pool Table. We felt more comfortable here than the main hotel bar.

The four lane Ten Pin Bowling Alley is an added bonus

In conclusion for a golf break this hotel ticks most of the boxes.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for review. I am delighted that you had a great time with us and enjoyed the Golf, the food and the service. The course is looking great at the moment and indeed this is a challenging course, one of the reason of our popularity. I am glad that you had a go at the bowling, a fantastic asset to prolong the evening whilst enjoying the relax atmosphere of the Terrace Bar. We have some great last minute deals and our Sunday night driver is one of them so please make the most of it.
We are looking forward to welcoming you back at Hellidon Lakes very soon.

This hotel does well on food, rooms and reception staff.
The problems come with the way staff deal with other guests, who during our stay, were badly behaved.
The hotel caters to groups and so if you are looking for a relaxing and peaceful spa break, go elsewhere.
We suffered from other guests being drunk and rowdy to the extent we couldn't hear ourselves talk over dinner and in the pool area (which needs a seroious upgrade by the way), we had to fish out slippers and cigarette lighters from the pool following someone being pushed into it whilst clothed.
Staff apologied for both there, but it spolied our stay to say the least.
Afternoon tea is delicious though - shame we couldn't have it in the bar overlooking the golf course due to the staff happily serving drinks to one 'gentleman' who was draped in 2 towels and still wet from swimming.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for review, I am pleased that your overall experience was enjoyable but please accept my apologies if you were disturb by the behaviour of some of our guests. Indeed we should have dealt with this. I will investigate as why we could not serve the lunch in the bar overlooking the Golf course as we are normally flexible and will always accommodate our guest’s preferences, in this instance the lounge may have been a quieter location.
We are looking forward to welcoming you back at Hellidon Lakes very soon.
