“Wedding Weekend”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2012

This was a two night pre booked stay for a local wedding. The accommodation was very good clean and spacious. The bathroom lacked any toiletries except some liquid soap for the wash basin and we had to dash out on the morning of the wedding to buy shower gel and shampoo.
Lovely countryside view to the rear.

Wifi just about worked but was intermittent

We ate in the restaurant on the evening of our arrival. Clearly the bar which was very busy is a popular venue with locals as well as hotel guests. The early evening special menu attracted a great number of diners to the large restaurant which provided simple food in large portions. Certainly not a Gastro pub the food was not great with sauces in sachets with messy tear off corners. A limited wine selection was available at the bar. The staff could not have been more friendly but seem to have been given huge tasks to achieve with one chambermaid who served breakfast having to service ten rooms between 10.00am and midday later to serve lunch. Despite this she managed to be incredibly attentive and smiled endlessly.

Breakfast very indifferent. Bacon cooked some time before service and plates very oily, once again with sauces in sachets and miniscule packs of butter and of course preserves served in those awful plastic tubs that can cut you while you struggle to tear off the top foil without spraying the contents on fellow guests.

Pricing was OK but the price per room charged was not in line with that advertised on the web. I thought that £75 per room was probably too high for this standard of accommodation.

Overall view, very half hearted. They have the tools but just don't get there.

Room Tip: Ask for your loan hair dryer when you arrive and ask for shower gel if you need it

Stayed one night to attend a wedding nearby. The main pub building is a little tired but the accommodation block is excellent. The room was a decent size, modern and spotlessly clean. There were also lovely views over the countryside. Staff are helpful and friendly. Full English breakfast was included with the room and was good for the price. We also had sandwiches and chips for lunch which were also good value.

There is road noise in the rooms but it wasn't excessive. If you like a weekend lie in be aware that they stop serving breakfast at 9, and you have to check out by 10.

we stayed for one night, which had lovely open countryside view, the room was spotless with a kingsized bed, and tea making facility but would be nice if we had biscuits and a fab shower, all the staff were very friendly, breakfast also came with the price of the room, the service could not have been better, the only suggestion we would say would be the carpark was dark and a light would have helped when we walked back to our room.when in the area we will have no hesitation in staying at the castle again

Came across this establishment when looking for a place to stay for the night - not prebooked. We wanted a double room. Staff were very accommodating and re-arranged a room for us to suit. The twin beds can be put together to make a massive double. Room was clean, modern and beds were comfortable. Our room was in a modern accommodation block. The hotel overlooks a main road, but the accommodation is set back from the road and the en-suite bathrooms are on the road side, so the bedroom overlooks the countryside at the back of the hotel. We were not bothered by road noise.

We had an evening meal there - very good. Breakfast was excellent but would have preferred normal rather than tinned tomatoes. Overall good value for money and would stay there again.

Well, what AMAZING customer service! But more of that later.

I’d read previous reviews of the Castle Inn but was still surprised to discover how lovely the purpose built accommodation block (next to the pub) was. It looks very much like the low rise holiday apartment blocks you might find on a holiday in the Med – right down to the balconies and outdoor furniture.

The rooms themselves are large and spacious – no compromise on space at all. Furnishings (full length curtains etc) are beautiful and look expensive – though it might be a good idea to put another curtain over the front door which has a glass panel. Similarly the beds – no compromise here. They are really big and very very comfy and they can function as two twins or a 6’ kingsize.

An earlier reviewer mentioned road noise. You certainly do hear alot from the road despite the accommodation being some distance away – BUT I had come prepared with silicon earplugs so if you are like me, make sure you pack some. Noise didn’t bother my b/f however.

Bathroom is also very large. But again – more of this later.

Views from the windows are outstanding and the hotel info tells you what you can see from your room.

Now, we did hit a problem. Freezing cold water in the morning and a very unpleasant cold shower for one of us. Not me. I chickened out. There was only one lady on duty, doing the breakfasts, who said that the electricity sometimes tripped and she wasn’t able to make an adjustment on our bill which surprised me. We were not able to wait for hot water after n breakfast as we were due elsewhere and had to leave.

What a shame – this did spoil our stay – which had been perfect up till that point

When I was back home after a week’s holiday I got in touch with the Castle proprietor, David Ellis, who responded very swiftly and personally. He was very helpful, apologetic and not at all on the defensive over the water. In fact he said they were now checking it daily and trying to identify whether the problem was with the boiler or with the power supply.

I was then made a very generous offer to compensate for the freezing water which I was glad to accept.

I would therefore give this hotel five gold stars for personal attention and excellent customer service.

Room Tip: All the rooms are equally good as they are identical, I think, in a small purpose built two storey b...

Spent one night at the hotel as we had been invited to a 60th birthday party that was being held there. We were made to feel very welcome and were shown to our room straight away. The room was modern, clean, comfortable with a lovely view over the countryside. Bar meals/restaurant available with cosy fire in the lounge. Breakfast was generous and the whole stay was extremely good value for money. Would highly recommend for a stopover.
