“A great hotel to relax and enjoy the views!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2013

We stayed at this hotel during our road-trip in Norway. It is situated on the hill facing Kvinesdal town and nature: the mountains ending in Fedafjord, the views are simply amazing! The ambience is tranquil, it makes you relax completely! It is also a golf destination and suitable for special events, such as weddings. The design is modern and the rooms are very spacious. The food we had at dinner was also very good, lots of great choices, and a wonderful atmosphere since we could view the beautiful nature surroundings. All in all a great experience! Recommended if you want to totally relax and unwind!

My third visit to this hotel. Set on the side of a mountain - with fantastic views of the valley below with Kvinesdal town below.

The hotel is spotlessly clean - as were the rooms. The older rooms are cheaper and are a little worn - but the new rooms are modern and light.

The service is excellent - everyone had a smile and was helpful. The resturant was good - perhaps the wine list could be expanded.

If wondering around south Norway, this is one hotel I would recommend.

Room Tip: New rooms with a view towards the sea are recommend

The hotel is situated higher in the mountain (i.e. not in town), but offer a fantastic view of the region. The hotel is very clean, the bathroom are quite small however. Staff is very friendlly.

The breakfast was very good. We also had dinner at the restaurant and it was very very good. The menu choices were limited however. On the second night, it was the same menu, so we headed to town for dinner.

Please note that there are no elevators and parking space may be limited.

I recommend this hotel and would stay there again.

Room Tip: Ask for a fjord view, it cost a little bit more, but the view is simply fantastic.

Not too many options in Kvinesdal, but this hotel would stand out anywhere. The rooms are great, beds comfortable, breakfast excellent and even the restaurant is the best in town (not much competition though). I haven't gotten a chance to test the locally bred turbot, but it is supposedly great. Been here twice, and looking forward to another stay.

A very modern and stylish hotel at a beautiful location with a view over the Kvinesdal-valley. The hotel is new, fresh and very clean. We had a very modern room, view over the valley was amazing. Restaurant is very good, but expansive. During our stay, the hotel was very quiet, staff was helpful and friendly, like it should be everywhere. If you're staying in this region of Norway, this hotel is a sure recommendation.

I got a good reception when I arrived. This indicates that a person was involved in everything. The hotel is beautifully situated at the height of Kvinesdal, which is a small village. In the daytime you can see far beyond the valley. Did it not very many people, which is unfortunate when the hotel is so nice to. Recommend that you take a detour from the E39, the hotel is well worth a visit. The price for the stay is something in to much, in terms of the offer that is available in November month. The same is the price of food. Main course with a simple dessert costs 500 kr per person. Internet connection offered is veeeery slow, not usable.

The thoroughly modern Utsikten Hotel ("The View" in Norwegian) is visible from the valley as you drive through Kvinsedal. It appears to promote a golfing theme, and is adjacent to or otherwise in co-operation with a golf course. Perched upon a mountain ridge, and positioned so that every room faces the valley below, guests have a terrific view of the fjord meandering towards the sea, which changes every minute as the clouds and sun march across the wide Norwegian sky, creating patterns of light and shade on the steep mountain sides. In the evening, mist clings to the sides of the mountain below, creeping mysteriously up the cliffs. Huge windows in the rooms and a balcony make the most of the main feature of the hotel.

I stayed here for Norway Rock Festival, rather than playing golf, so I can say nothing of the local golf facilities.

I was, however, disappointed to find the hotel did not provide a gym or a pool. Unless you're swinging a driver around here, or hurtling down the mountain roads on wheel-skis (or whatever they're called) I guess you're not going to get any exercise.

We had a two bed suite. The rooms are bright, clean, minimalist and modern. Medium sized bathroom in good repair, and there was a small kitchenette with a proper refrigerator and a sink, one of those touch-screen ceramic glass modern cooking thingies, plates, cutlery, a pan and some cookware. For the wife whose husband arrives back three hours late from his "eighteen holes", the hotel provides a complimentary rolling pin. Sachets of Douwe Egberts decaf instant coffee are provided en masse, unexplained.

Breakfast is served in the spacious restaurant area, adjacent to the light-filled lobby , again providing magnificent views of the valley. Boiled eggs (or Hard Kokt, tee hee) garnished with delicious caviar paste are available, with the usual bacon, beans, pressed meat selection, fruit, pastries, cereals, juices (not freshly squeezed), tea and coffee (not espresso). All in all, a quality breakfast, but not outstanding.

We had dinner in the restaurant, and whilst the chef was all at sea creating anything for a vegetarian (try every vegetable side dish heaped on one plate, sans-sauce), the salmon was perfectly cooked, a seafood salad starter was a feast in itself, and the Creme Brulee was the genuine article, not complicated with unwanted variations on recipe, with a satisfying crust and a reassuring muddle of vanilla seeds at the bottom of the dish. Fantastic. The wildly expensive wine list (to be expected in Norway, I know) led us to choose the house Rioja, which itself was perfectly drinkable.

The friendly waiters and check-in staff (all speaking very good English in a variety of pseudo regional UK accents) completed the ambience of this very relaxing hotel.
