While Cruden Bay is not the course to be hosting an Open Championship or a Ryder Cup, it is a course which can be enjoyed by anyone. From the moment you set eyes on the dozens of sand dunes that frame certain holes and hide others, you know you are in for some fun and adventure. The thing that sets Cruden Bay apart from other courses in the world is its quirkiness and unorthodox design; it dares to be different. The sooner this is accepted and embraced, the more fun one will have golfing here. The otherworldly seeming location of the course is epitomized by the hike up to the ninth tee. I must say that this is one of the best views in all the world of golf. Looking from Slane Castle all the way down to the rock formations which lie south along the beach is absolutely stunning. The highlight of Cruden is not found in one hole but in the eagerness to discover what will appear next. However, holes 4-9 and 13-16 are the two best stretches.
This course is special because it is full of surprise, fun and adventure. Playing this course will make golf more fun that one could imagine. The course also fits in beautifully with the town of Cruden Bay. A sheer delight and honour to play and visit.
