Claise is a small hamlet between Chateauroux and Mezieres en Brenne. Similar auberges in small villages have closed through lack of custom and it is a tribute to the good food and popularity of this one that it continues to flourish.
We went there for Sunday lunch and it was very busy. We had a set menu and every course was good. The staff are welcoming and efficient and we enjoyed being amongst French families a large number of whom appeared to be well known to the owners. There is a separate private dining room which was occupied by members of a motorcycle club out for the day. But the kitchen coped admirably with the mass catering as well as the other diners. Definitely one to return to.
