“An oasis in the Big Bend area”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 20, 2012

We stayed at Lajitas Resort in mid November, off season. It was very nice and peaceful but there were people visiting. I did not get the impression that the off-season effected the care of the staff. Everyone was very nice, friendly and helpful. We did not use the golf course, equestrian center or spa as we were there to visit Big Bend. We stayed in the Officers Quarters in a very nice room with an enclosed patio. (For people traveling with dogs: the couple next to us had 2 dogs and would have enjoyed our enclosed patio but instead had an open patio.) We stayed 2 nights. The rooms are decorated very nicely, not over the top western but very tasteful. We found the restaurant both at breakfast and dinner to be very well priced, especially considering the location. We had a wonderful dinner, great food beautifully presented. Breakfast both mornings was also very good. There are a few shops located at the resort that had some attractive artwork and vacation mementos. We would love to go back again. It would be a great place to spend time with family as there are plenty of diversions on the grounds. Our only complaint was the only parking is a distance from many of the rooms. We had no problem as we are both physically able and have rolling suitcases. Someone that was older or didn't have rolling suitcases would do well to stay closer to the parking lot. We were not offered/did not need help with luggage but it is surely available.

Room Tip: Officers Quarters overlooking the pond felt like they were more private. Had beautiful unrestricted...

I had not been to Big Bend in 40 or so years and certainly not to a resort The recent rains had given the desert a green hue and fresh look and smell Everyone at the resort went out of their way to assist our group of 9 adults and often had to change plans in order to accommodate our whims. We would definitely go again. Our trip was by private plane and made the trip for us , flying commercial to Midland and driving several hours to Lajitas would have made a big difference to me and my husband ,our 4 daughters and 3 sons in law would have done fine. I strongly recommend the trip !!

Our room had a magnificent view overlooking the golf course and mountains of Mexico. We were pleasantly surprised at how great the food was in the Candelila restaurant. Prices were very reasonable as well. Golf course was challenging and incredibly scenic. The neighboring town of Terlingua is just down the road and was definitely worth a visit. Both the Big Bend state and national parks were not too far from the resort. Activites director Kasey was very helpful. Free coffee and bottled water in the lobby. We would definitely make a trip back!

Room Tip: The rooms in the officers quarters have a fabulous view.

We choose this hotel as it was the only 'luxurious' hotel close by the park. It sure is a special place and drive to it.
However problems already started when booking way in advance. They had a stay 3 pay 2 promotion but I couldn't book it. I contacted them and was informed that it was not available because of the chilli cook off. So I booked 3 nights at full price. One week before leaving I checked their website again and the promotion was active for my stay! I cancelled and rebooked. When checking out they wanted to charge 3 nights at full price (even higher than the original booking). So we had to call later that day to resolve it. They corrected the mistake and put the money back on our credit card which charged us a commission fee for that. A mess that could easily have been avoided.

So the room itself: we booked a room with a view in the officer's quarter. When we came in, none of the blinds would go up, several light bulbs didn't work and the A/C didn't work. I complained the next morning about the latter two and by the time we got back, they were fixed. But for a room that is supposed to cost $299/night it didn't feel up to that 'luxurious' standard. So I left with mixed feelings, this place has great potential, but the room and the experience where not up to the standard you might expect from the price.

First vacation in five years I can only speak well of this resort. The activities director was well versed in her knowledge of the park and the area. After trying some of the local restaurants, we decided the hotel restaurant was the only place to eat. Outstanding service, well prepared food, and pricing equaled the value. I did not try the golf course because of the cost, but the clubhouse served great beer. We received an upgraded suite free of charge and the suite was a five star experience. We took our dog with us and she had the run of the hotel except for the dining room. The front desk people were highly customer friendly. I will stay there every time I return to the park.

Room Tip: Suite if possible

I was very surprised to find such a nice resort in the Big Bend area. We didn't have an opportunity to take advantage of all the facilities this trip since we were only there one night, but will definitely return for a more extended stay. However, we were able to example the food and it was excellent!

Room Tip: There is no elevator or bell boy service so be aware of that if you are staying in a second floor ro...

We stayed at the campground as part of a Big Bend bicycling trip and were extremely pleased with both the facilities and staff. I've stayed here before on bike trips and the manager, Tim, has always gone above and beyond to make our stay pleasant and free of complications. The pool is clean and inviting, the courtyard is picturesque and the camping areas are well-maintained. This is definitely the best place to stay in the area.
