“Hidden Jewel!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2012

There is so much to say about this small trip.... If you are looking for quality time with your spouse or to reconnect and have a romantic get away, This is the place to go!!! The drive to get there is beautiful when you drive through Presidio!! The resort itself is beautiful as well with their Golf Course that has an international hole!!
To see the sunset and the sunrise is breath taking!! Once your are there make sure you go eat at La Kiva and to the Starlight Theater ... The atmosphere there is one taken out of a movie! Fun relaxing and with a types of people!
A couple of hours drive and you are the Big Bend National park...Lots of good scenery that you have to take advantage off!! And if you are really up for an adventure, Mexico is about an hour from the Resort, you can go have lunch in Mexico, bring back some souvenirs and be back by dinner time!! Service everywhere was GREAT and the food delicious!! That was my experience...

Just returned from a two trip to this lovely place.
The location is remote but worth the trip.
The hotel is set up in authentic Old Texas style.  Designed to be rustic yet comfortable.
The room we were assigned was in the "La Cuesta" section. The room had a refrigerator, soft leather love seat  and a comfy bed. Storage was plentiful. We were right by the pool which was beautiful.
Dinner in the restaurant was lovely. The Chicken Piccata was so delicious. Breakfast was very good. We had a lovely visit with the bartender in the bar "The thirsty Goat"
History of this resort and the area is rich and intriguing.  There is also camping, RV area,  great golf course, equestrian center, and other activities that can be set up through the resort.
Very close to Big Bend park and Terlingua Ghost Town.

We made a 5 day vacation over the 4th of July. Beautiful accomodations and amazing scenery. Tons of stuff to do - horseback and ATV riding in the mountains, river rafting, and golf were our choices. Shooting range was closed for a reality TV series video though - bummer. Great food at the restaurant. Enjoyed visiting Terlingua as well.

Room Tip: get close by pool in summer

The resort is very nice! The so called activity director who I was told is suppose to help guests book activities was very rude! I believe her name was Casey and she was not helpful at all. She ignored me while talking to another employee for over 15 minutes until I finally walked away and never received a call back from her after leaving a message. Thank goodness I decided that I should call the spa directly to book a massage where I spoke with Regina who gives the most incredible massage and was probably the best massage I have ever had! She is very talented and I recommend booking a massage with her. This place has such potential; but, they need to get employees that actually care about the guest experience instead of conversating with other employees while guests wait. We were traveling with some friends and stayed with them in the Cavalry Post area of the resort which was very nice accommodations having very comfortable best. Restaurant was a little pricey which is to be expected considering where they are located. I would recommend visiting the resort during cooler months.

This was an interesting trip in a very remote area of Texas boardering Mexico. If we ever go back it will be in either March or September. July was just too hot for this desert terrain and climate.

My wife and I stayed here for three nights over Christmas 2012 with another couple from Houston. We had a room in one of the cavalry barracks building which was nice and big with a fireplace. Nothing really fancy--esp. the bathroom setup--but fine. We played golf on Xmas eve and I have to say that it was spectacular. My friend and I have played a lot of famous golf courses between us, but we both agreed that this piece of golf real estate is something special. It had not been open that long when we played but I imagine they have the kinks worked out by now. If you're a golfer and you are anywhere near, you have to play it. As for the resort, I know it has been an ongoing project to try and make this thing work. The main problem, as far as I can tell, is simply the remoteness. It's just hard to field a dedicated, professional staff and get everything you need (food etc) to run a top notch resort in the most remote place in the United States. The food, for instance, was totally hit and miss. Breakfast was fine but the Xmas dinner special menu thing we did was damn near a fiasco. They obviously had no idea what they were doing. The wait staff was very friendly and eager to be of service, but it didn't matter--you could tell they were way in over their heads with the "special" Xmas dinner event. The bar next door is really nice and relaxed--I love the space--but again I'd have to wonder if you ordered a Sazerac if they'd even know what you're talking about.
The best thing about Lajitas is, of course, the setting. Just an amazing location smack between Big Bend National Park and Big Bend Ranch state park. This is one of my favorite places on the planet, and I'm just happy there is _some_ decent place to stay when we go out there. Would I stay there again? Sure, absolutely--where the hell else are you going to stay, Terlingua? Would I expect a top notch resort experience. No--forget it. Next time--we all agreed after the trip--we'll probably rent a place and cook for ourselves. In the meantime, if you stay there, you can go to the Kiva and the Starlight Theatre in Terlingua and have a decent meal. The Kiva is a must do either way. Either way, I'll be back; that part of Texas is that special. And bring the clubs!

I went to the Lajitas Resort July 6th & 7th and did the golf package. I stayed in a one bedroom suite in the La Cuesta section of the resort in room #432 which was close to the pool. The room was nice and the AC worked well and kept the room cold. The golf course was challenging and scenic with views of the Rio Grande and mountains in the background. The Thirsty Goat bar and Candelilla cafe were nice. The spicy shrimp entree was excellent and the chicken piccata was delicious. John Finley and his staff have made numerous improvements. I also want to thank Terry, Al,Laura and Brent for a wonderful stay. I plan on getting golf buddy to come down.

Room Tip: Stay in suites at La Cuesta
