“Fabulous holiday!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2012 via mobile

I have just returned from 11 nights in the Villa Rosa hotel and we had a really great holiday and would definitely go back.
We arrived Desenzano train station and walked to the hotel (about 30 minutes if you've luggage but it's all downhill - we would've gotten a taxi but had no cash and there's no ATM at the station!!)
We were checked in by a very helpful lady at reception (Maria I think) and throughout the whole stay she, and indeed all reception staff, were very helpful. We got great advice on day trips, they booked a trip to the Opera in Verona, gave us a map and DVD of the area when we were leaving and were just generally very pleasant and helpful the whole time.
Our room was 404 and it was very nice. We had a balcony with a view of the lake to the left. The bed was very comfortable, the shower was lovely but my only issue was there wasn't a huge amount of storage in the bedroom, it was fine.
The pool at the hotel is small and quite shallow but I loved it. It was salt water which was really refreshing. There were a good number of beds and even though the hotel was full we were always able to get two beds side by side (without having to get up at dawn!!).
The breakfast food was very nice but the variety wasn't huge. It was sufficient for me but I pretty much ate the same thing every day. It is 100% self service down to the orange juicing machine (yum!) and the coffee machine (very nice coffee and good variety). I would have liked the option of getting a boiled egg or something different cooked to order some mornings but it didn't bother me too much. The lunch in the pool space was very tasty and good enough value for eating in the hotel. We ate there any day we stayed by pool and really enjoyed it.
We ate in the hotel 3 times in the evening. Twice with full menu which was delicious. The service was great and everything about the food and drink and just lovely! We sat at the front with a view of the lake which was also very nice. On the Tuesday night we had the Italian buffet advertised within the hotel. We didn't enjoy this as much. We got the impression the restaurant staff weren't too happy about it and the service wasn't great (our starter plates and main plates weren't collected until we were having dessert). The food was fine but not great by the normal standards. We regretted choosing this instead of the normal menu.
On the second Sat in August there is a fireworks display in Desenzano and we were able to watch that from the roof of the hotel where we were given free glasses of bubbly. A lovely experience!!
Overall it was a great stay. Desenzano as a town is grand (I've stayed on Sorrento twice and just love that town so it's hard to match up to it). It's quiet enough, shops close at 8pm and for about 3-4 hours during the day. It is a great base though for trains and boats. We did plenty of day trips and they were very easy based on our location.
I would definitely go back and would definitely stay at Villa Rosa again. Great staff, great food, great location!!

We have just returned from our third stay at The Villa Rosa,Desenzano and will be soon planning more visits. The classy Italian Hotel on the Lake side is stylishly modern while remaining comfortable and friendly. The interior design is cool cream ,always perfectly clean. All exterior areas are well kept .The swimming pool area has ample comfortable ratan sunloungers and towels are provided free of charge. There is a pool service for drinks or snacks,as well as a lunch menu available on the nearby terrace. We were staying on a bed and breakfast rate and found it excellent value for August. The breakfast was plentiful from fresh fruits, yogurts, hams ,salads, cakes ,pastries, all types of bread and a hot selection.Celiacs were also catered for.Our room ,although classed as standard was excellent, comfortable beds table and chairs and superb wall mounted t.v featuring b.b.c. and i.t.v channels! Then main reason we return again and again to this hotel is the warm and friendly staff ,who cannot do enough to make your stay enjoyable, most are regular staff rather than seasonal and it is lovely to return to familliar faces and old friends.Nothing is ever too much trouble for them and they are full of ideas and useful tips, they even had a box of mobile phone chargers and were able to direct us to a specialist shop to recharge our camera.Desenzano is a beautiful town and it is great for the independent traveller being on the Milan -Venice train line (1 1/2 hours to Venice,1 hour Milan)Verona is easily reached by train or buss.We prefare to visit places ourselves rather than following an "umberella"!This way you can spend as much time as you like getting the real feel of the place.I would recommend a visit to Romeo and Juliet's house in Verona, spend time visiting the museum and reading the letters written to "Juliet" modern agony aunt's of Verona! The ferries around the lake are reasonable and a gentle way to sightsee and top up your tan.I would recommend ,Sirmione,Malcescine,Salo, and Limone in particulare. This year we did an excursion to the Dolomite mountains. It left the hotel at 7.20,but was a wonderful day full of wonderful views and a great contrast to the heat of the lake, the cool mountain air was most welcome. We reserved with the reception staff the evening before and the tickets were e.mailed to reception.Enrico was most informative even warning us to take along warmer clothes !I highly recommend this hotel to family ,friends and enyone who enjoys comfort along with a pleasant ambience.

I can honestly say this is the nicest place I have ever stayed. As a group of four adults and one child we arrived to a friendly and courteous reception from the front desk and were offered to have our bags taken to our rooms which we accepted after travelling from the north east of England. Our rooms, although a little small, we're beautifully furnished and in very good condition with air-con, a large mounted flat screen television and en-suite. We were in a standard room, our companions in a junior sweet (bigger than ours, but not by much). Both rooms were finished to a high standard. They were also made up twice per day, and the staff who clean and make up the rooms I cannot praise enough. They were friendly, polite and considerate, and one lady even gave our little one year old son a kiss! And not in a creepy, over-friendly way, they were just so lovely and family oriented, it seemed a perfectly natural thing to do, and this family theme was something we felt running throughout the whole hotel, town and area in general! Over the course of the fortnight we were there, every single member of staff we met were courteous and polite and often went out of their way to compliment or interact with our baby son, and again, not in a forced way. It really was very heartfelt and sincere! And walking around Desenzano was a pleasure, the people friendly and very family oriented; old women sitting chatting on benches along the lake side would break off from their conversations to coo in Italian to our boy, it was lovely and very touching!
We ate out every now and again and in my opinion, the chefs at this hotel are some of the best in the area. The food was faultless, perfectly presented and beautifully cooked. Breakfasts are a little standard, but the meals are superb. They often prepared small portions for our child specially, nothing was too much trouble. Also, the head chef even helped out on his days off, bringing us our food to our table and wishing us well when he was clearly off duty, another lovely touch that went a long way. I suspect he may be a part owner of the hotel, but that man puts some graft in and is no small talent behind the pots and pans. Waiting staff were efficient and courteous and were impeccable throughout. Dining here was an absolute pleasure.
Overall, I would return here in a heartbeat and if you are travelling with children, a more family friendly place you could not find. Thanks for a wonderful holiday and I look forward to coming back some day.

Stayed here 2 days on the way back from Tuscany. Very average. Rooms are rather outdated, bathroom really small. We got a room with the view of parking lot, not very romantic, considering it was our honeymoon. Pool is a joke. Ones there are 4 people inside it is overloaded.

Positives:
Nice breakfast spread
Beautiful view from the restaurant bar

Dear Mr Up_in_the_Air80,

thank you for having shared with us your opinion.
Anyway we are very sorry to read your point of view, because our hotel is completely new, for this reason our rooms cannot be outdated as you wrote. You stayed on a Standard room, but please be advised that we also have Superior room with balcony looking at the pool and garden, Junior Suites and Suites with balcony overlooking the lake: of course they are both more expensive than Standard ones, but they are a better solution for exigent people.
Hope to have the pleasure to meet you again at our hotel, we send you our

Best Regards
Emanuela Begnoni

We stayed in this hotel in August following at trip across Europe by train .
The hotel is well located with a short walk into the lively town . We planned to eat out each evening but having sampled the hotel restuarant on the first evening did nt go anywhere else . The food really is gourmet standard. The half board option is excellent value and I honestly feel that as an adventurous traveller who eats out frequently I didn't want to risk having a bad meal somewhere else .The wine selection includes some excellent local wines and the restaurant waiters were very attentive .We were served by an excellent waiter most evenings called Rosario. The evening can be rounded off e
With a fantastic cocktail made by Davide the humorous barman who adds a great deal to the bar atmosphere ..he also makes one of the best cocktails to be found.
Finally two last comments;the hotel rooms etc are immaculately clean and well appointed.
The swimming pool is a little on the small side and can get busy but is ok for a cool off at the end of the day
Overall you won't be disappointed

Room Tip: Ask for garden view ..

We asked for a lake view and that is exaclty what we got! The rooms were very clean and the staff were friendly and very helpful with all our needs regarding lake garda info. Even the breakfast room has a great view of the Lake! We definitely reccomend this place if you are a couple looking for a romantic getaway.
