Does the Best Western franchise name no favours at all. It's as lakeside as Buckingham Palace is to the lake in St James' Park and whilst we did have a lake view from our top floor room on the front of the hotel I suspect the views could be very limited from lower floors or side rooms. Internally the very grand marble entrance belies the very dingy narrow bedroom hallways and the need to put the lights on for yourself all the time. Dated furniture and decoration, unhelpful staff and a really 'mean' approach to breakfast service gave the place an exceptionally unwelcoming feeling. Balcony no use in the evening as the lights used to illuminate the front of the hotel made it a magnet for every sort of insect. Every morning at breakfast at least two items had run out and were not replaced until a guest asked - the ham & cheese were both processed and virtually see through, no salami or mortadella. The dinner menu changed daily but was neither inspiring nor inviting, limited to 3 primi plati, (7.5 - 10€) 3 secondi plati (12 - 15€) and 2 dolci (6.5€) which on the cheapest options would cost 26€ each without drinks, bottled beer was 4€. To use the hotel hire towels around the swimming pool was 3€ each towel every time you hired one and the fact that it advertises indoor and outdoor pools is deceptive as the indoor one closes as the outdoor one opens up in May. .A thoroughly cheerless experience and absolutely not deserving of 4 star rating.
