“Lovely location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 26, 2011

When we first were shown our pitch I thought O my goodness what have we come to. There was no grass on the pitch as the weather had been so dry. The pitch was a standard pitch so was a bit small. My first impressions were not good! I do have to say it was after the most stressful journey I have ever had! Pitches are very close together at first this was off putting but we soon got used to it. We used the on site camp shop and thought this to be very reasonable. We also used the site take away the pizzas were great but if they busy it may take a while. The toilet and shower block were reasonably clean. Looked like they were cleaned a few times a day. There were great facilities for doing a hand wash of clothes most people put up a line to dry their clothes. One thing I really like was that the campsite was full of different nationalities so we could speak to people from all over Europe. This site is not one of the recommended sites by the big campsite clubs back in Britain so it is off most British folks radar. For me that is good. I grew to love this campsite and hope to go back next year.

We chose Camping San Francesco with some reservation having read the mixed reviews, but based upon its geography and slightly smaller size than other sites on the South Coast of the Lake we booked. As we were largely self sufficient in our motorhome we did not have to rely upon the site facilities too greatly, but when we did, they satisfied our demands.

We had a Lake side pitch, whilst it was small we fitted in and thoroughly enjoyed the setting.

A multinational site, with Brits being in the minority. Evening entertainment was available for the kids, but the adults were spared. Although the neighborouing site of Garda Village more than made up for the noise polution. Didn't really bother us, but could put off some. This being the case, I would advise the South Western end of the site for being quieter.

We did meet some disgruntled potential campers, whose RVs were to large for the site yet had paid deposits and then lost them as they couldn't fit.

Make double certain the pitch is right for you.

The only queue we were subjected to was for the suoermarket in the morning and small ones at reception which were never really an issue. I know this was reported as an issue previously.

We will be going back. A antastic setting for exploring the South end of the lake. We tooko our own bikes, Kayaks and sailing dinghy. We didnt rent any of the local speedboats, but relied upon the hi-speed ferries to see around the lake. Salo, Torri and of course Sirmione are all well worth a visit.

A trip to Verona for the Opera is a must.

Lake Como has perhaps a more appealing and dramatic setting, but we found more than enough to do over our two week trip. The two day 100o mile trip and the same on the return takes rather a lot to recover from though!

Our route. Calais, Lille, Mons, Strasbourg, overnight in Obernai, then through Switzerland through the Gottard tunnel, Milan and then that wonderous lake. Return was much the same, but we went via Lake Como, the St Julein Pass, then Zurich, Basle and Strasbourg, from there on the retrun of our outward leg. Tolls were minimal apart from the SwissTax Vignette. 16 hours driving either way was tough but I find European roads much easier to drive.

Last year we enjoyed a relaxing stay at camping san francesco for the second time! Lovely location by the lake and a short distance from Sirmione, a charming little village with ice cream and sorbets to die for and a great buzz! The on site facilities were good. They included a reasonably priced shop, a take away, a large swimming pool and washing facities, among other things. The food at the restaurant was reasonably ok but the pizza was the real attraction. The staff at the reception were extremely accomodating and always willing to offer advice about the surrounding villlages. The mobile home itself was well equipped, well located and clean. The only real negative was that the pool opened at 11am and closed at the early time of 7pm. However, we really enjoyed our stay and we'll be back again soon!

This is our third year on the trot to this site,we love it.Staff very friendly(sometimes a Que in reception, but be patient, its the way of life in Italy!)..Toilets/shower blocks have been immaculate every visit. The Lake is to die for,we have always gone with Venue holidays, good value and top customer service (We had a problem last year,e mailed them and they sorted it,even tho we were outside the terms and conditions timing, very good!)..Speed boat hire is a must, but only go for the 2 hours, its long enough,we hired for a whole day last year and were boated out....and it cost 70 Euros in fuel(the 2 Hr deal Inc's fuel, all day does not!)..,Not far down the road is a traditional pizza restaurant with wood flamed oven, its the best!(called La Quiete ),its the best...call +390309110358,you will not be disappointed. We have booked for Aug 2011 and cant wait,we drive down so we have the car to visit places such as Venice and the Ferrari museum in Modana.......Lake Garda,we love it!!

This is a fantastic base for families with children, and the options of the pool, lake (with canoes and pedalos with slides), table tennis, basket ball, football and the games room kept our 10 and 12 year olds occupied. The pool was really great for children of all ages. The life guards were vigilant without being obtrusive and this helped to give a calm atmosphere around the pool. The activities around the pool (e.g. aqua aerobics)were regular enough to add interest but weren't over the top. The water in the lake was warm, clean and clear. It was like swimming in the sea but without the saltiness.

We stayed with Canvas holidays in one of the comfort plus chalets. The accomodation was very clean and had most of what we needed, we just needed to get washing up liquid, a tea towel and extra loo roll.

The rep., George, was superb. He dealt with any problems immediately, was friendly, courteous and on-hand if you needed him.

The food in the restaurant was good and the staff were helpful. The waiting time for food was fine but the pizzas did seem to take quite a bit longer than the pasta dishes, so if time is an issue, don't order pizza! The quality of the take away food was good. We ordered the all singing, all dancing pizza for 4 and the children used the box as a raft on the lake the next day (they could have done, it was HUGE).

On the whole we found the food prices in the area to be quite expensive. There's always the local supermarket and the camp shop to keep prices down though.

I'd reccomend visiting Sirmione, Desenzano and Bardolino. All of these places are accessible by car or ferry across the lake and they are all beautiful.

Just come back from a 2 weeks holiday in Italy. We were soilt the first week with 8 days at the Union Lido campsite near Venice. However we were dissapointed with Camping San Francesco.

Reception was very slow with one person on the desk dealing with all queries from existing campers wanting to book Wifi, Tennis etc as well as dealing with new arrivals.

The pitch we booked was the 'Pitch by the Lake' which is advertised as 8 x 12m on the website and their literature and states it is suitable for large Motorhomes, but the pitch was in fact 8 x 9m and very tight to park our Motorhome on. The neighbours had to help guide the MH onto the pitch.

The biggest negative without doubt is the lack of cleanlness of the shower blocks. They are cleaned poorly early in the day and no evidence of being cleaned after. My wife and children dreaded the time of day when they went for a shower. I will not mention what they found in the shower cubicles, but as I said, not a nice experience. The campsite staff agreed there was a problem but did not seem to care. On top of this, there was no hot water for the first 4 days.

The positive is the lake is beautiful. We will never go back and would not recommend the site.

We stayed for 12 nights in a Eurocamp mobile home, the mobile was clean, spacious, airconditioned (a necessity) & expensive. The Eurocamp mobiles are very squashed together and it feels as though you are living on top of the neighbouring mobiles. There are several other mobile home providers on site and each of their mobiles seemed to be as well kept as the Eurocamp mobiles but had lots of space around them. The site is immaculately kept, very clean and felt very safe. There are lots of pools and you are right on the beach, meaning you never get bored. Some of the pools charged for entry but if you were a member of Sam Club entry was free. There are lots of activities on site some free and some had a charge depending on membership of the aforementioned club. The Club was 17euro per person and entitled you to free archery lessons, gym membership and other discounted activities. The site has a well stocked supermarket and 3 restaurants & bars. We took the bus into the local town Caorle a few evenings which was beautiful, no english or Irish bars, very quaint but busy with plently of shops. Shopping is expensive. It was reasonably priced to eat out.

The waterpark in Caorle is great fun for a day out!

The only down side was the mosquitos, I highly recommend bringing plenty of Deet spray; I was unfortunate to have an allergic reaction to the mosquito bites but allergy medication such as Piriton or Benadryl helped as does cortizone cream.

Trevisio Airport is very small so when travelling out of it arrive really early because you have to queue up 4 or 5 times to check in and get through security. There is also no where to eat once you go through security.
