“Fantastic views, clean, spacious great staff,Volterra worth visiting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 8, 2012 via mobile

Stayed 4nights in April, asked for a "high floor with a nice view" and got one; only some rooms face the beautiful Tuscan vale. Walk/climb to the town is steep but short and well worth it. The hotel will provide a minibus shuttle if you ask apparently. Rooms are clean and spacious.

We stayed here Thanksgiving week for 3 days as a base for day trips to Siena, San Gimignano, Pisa after spending time in Florence earlier. Volterra itself is charming and real, not nearly as touristy as Siena and San Gimgnano. It is a 10 minute steep uphill walk into town which was not a problem at all for our group but could be an issue for some. We drove to one of the parking lots just outside of town for dinner one evening, and the couple who walked (downhill) back to the hotel arrived before the couple who drove. The Pinoteca museum, and the Estruscan museums were quite interesting. Great vistas from the city and from the hotel itself.

Rooms are clean with firm comfortable beds, although not luxury. Friendly staff who communicated well in English. We did not use their restaurant.

We stayed here as part of a tour group. From the better rooms the views across the pool and the Tuscan countryside are fabulous, if like us, you looked over the car park it was less so.
We found the hotel quite noisy due to the hard tiled floors and lack of soft furnishings, the room was fine except for the very noisy air-conditioning.
The restaurant was expensive and the wine prohibitive. If they opened a brasserie with a more varied selection of food they would do well.
The staff were friendly and spoke good english.

Nice room, if a bit bare. No bath, just a shower. Comfortable bed. but the food in the restaurant wasnt very nice, I couldnt believe my risotto - I thought Italian food was gorgeous, but this tasted like it was out of a pack, microwaved.....maybe its just me.

As luck would have it, we were given a room overlooking an unkempt yard. However the view from the Terrace was incredible: Commanding vista of an outdoor swimming pool, the valley and the Tuscan Hills beyond. The Hall, the dinning room / food / service and other amenities were excellent. Volterra, a medieval town, was only ten minutes walk up the hill. It was worth going there just for the majestic panorama.

Room Tip: Try to get a room overlooking the outdoor Swimming pool.

Great hotel, good location good room’s, food excellent and staff were first rate. The only criticism we had was that the rooms needed to be better sound proofed and quite often we could hear the TV and conversations in the adjoining rooms. The tiled floors and corridors amplified the sound. On one night entertainment was put on, a man with a guitar and loud speaker which was good if that is what you want but this was right outside the rooms facing the pool and it went on until 11pm. If you use this hotel, ask about planned entertainment and get a room away from the entertainment area. Apart from this we had a great time and will use this hotel again if we visit the area.

Room Tip: Check to see if any entertainment is planned and unless you want to hear it get a room well away fro...

Having read some of the negative responses, and as we had highly recommended the hotel to our friends, who were travelling with us, we were apprehensive as to whether it had really changed since our visit 6 years ago. However, we were not disappointed.
We telephoned the hotel to make our own bookings and having been there before, we specifically asked for rooms overlooking the pool.
Our room was clean, spacious - fantastic wide double bed - and the bathroom was very well appointed. The staff were helpful, friendly, efficient and spoke good English and the standard of the food was excellent. We were very pleased to see that all the towels for the pool, jaccuzzi and sauna were still provided by the hotel.
We were also pleased to see that the breakfast was now served on the terrace or in the restaurant (not downstairs as during our previous visit).
The hotel was also used by tour operators, so if you are part of a specific tour group, we recommend that you clarify with the operator beforehand, what rooms will be available. (We
overheard a very disappointed English couple, who were very angry at their tour guide who hadn't made it clear to her party that there was a random allocation of the rooms).

Room Tip: Ask for a view of the pool. Rooms 203 - 208 have amazing views. Presumably, the top floor nos. 303 o...
