“Good hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2012

The hotel itself was fine, the rooms were decent sized and clean, good shower and some wardrobe space (although shelves/drawers wouldn't go amiss!) Breakfast was a real treat, the best we had in Tuscany. The garden was also a lovely feature. For the location & price I would say you can't go wrong.

My only gripe - I booked in January 2012 and having read reviews on here at that time requested 2 double rooms at the back of the hotel. On arrival in August 2012 I was told that there was only 1 room available at the back and 1 at the front. Let me say that the rooms at the front of the hotel are as noisy as other reviewers have commented on. The first night the party outside our room went on til 3am and the dustbin men arrived at 5.30am. On top of this there is no air conditioning so you have a choice of being very warm at night, or opening the windows and being kept awake by the noise (I tried my trusty earplugs, they made no difference). What really bugged me though, was that we were told by another couple who arrived earlier in the day that on arrival wthey ere not happy with room they have been given being in the front of the hotel and so requested to be moved back....they duly were which meant that despite having requested a back room some 8 months previously, our request was not met.

The hotel was good, but the failure to meet our request, to move other customers on the day we were due to arrive, and the noise we then experienced, did leave a slightly bad taste.

“Amazing, friendly, beautiful, and perfect location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2012

My family (me, my parents, sisters, and my husband) visited Volterra a couple of weeks ago, and by strange circumstances ended up here. Let me just say, WOW. The rooms were great, and the location is perfect, right in the middle of everything. There is a rooftop garden which is AMAZING, and so pretty. It smelled only of tons of flowers, and we brought some wine up there every night to enjoy the atmosphere and view. The breakfast was great. We had a tiny issue with our shower leaking, and it was fixed immediately.
We originally signed up for three nights, and actually extended our stay to a week because we loved it so much. The hotelier (owner?) always had great recommendations for us of what to do in Volterra and great restaurants. I truly can't wait to go back to Volterra and stay here again!!!!
Run, do not walk, to Albergo Etruria!!!!! You will not be disappointed!

Room Tip: Try to get a room right on the street, it's a bit louder at night, but so beautiful.

“Great location and service, but rooms may need some work”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2012 via mobile

This hotels excells in three of the most important aspects of a good stay: affordable price, excellent location, and very, very helpful staff. The breakfast too was awesome. The room we stayed in, however, needs some work: it was very dusty, the shower head needed to be held manually, and, not as important, the heater did not turn on on a very cold night. Had I stayed in a different room (I stayed in the room all the way in the back), i would have probably rated this hotel as excellent all the way.

“Perfect location in Volterra”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 11, 2012

Excellent location. Paid parking was very convenient. Friendly staff was very helpful. We were there during moderately hot weather in June and had a room on the top floor. It was unpleasantly hot in the room all day and night, since there is no air conditioning. Not much ventilation in the room, or the upstairs hallways. The lower floors were much cooler.

Room Tip: If you are staying in hot weather, avoid a room on the top floor.

“Simple gem in a beautiful town”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 8, 2012

My family party of six was in trouble, having unexpectedly left a horrible rental in Tuscany earlier in the day, with no place to stay. We took a chance and drove to Volterra, and then (using the Rick Steves guide) contacted the Albergo Etruria, where they were kind enough to rent us three rooms at the last minute. Later, after we had fallen in love with the town, they allowed us to extend our stay without problem.
The hotel is not fancy, some of the rooms are small, and the lack of air conditioning was a little uncomfortable given the hot weather we were experiencing. However, all of this was made up for by the overall warm hospitality of the managers and their staff. The rooms were otherwise comfortable, clean, and nicely decorated. There is a lovely dining room where a very nice breakfast is served (included in the rate) each morning; my wife, a strict coffee snob, gave the cappuccino two thumbs up! There is a common area on the first floor that has a refrigerator, stove, and microwave for use by the guests, as well as a computer and TV. Best of all, there is a rooftop garden area that is both expansive and beautiful.
Really, though, the staff makes the experience! They were all helpful to a fault, whether printing up our train e-tickets, giving us six Wi-fi passwords every day for our use, or dealing with pretty much any other request we made.
And the price on the rooms is extremely reasonable.

Room Tip: Just ask; they will be happy to help you pick the right room!
