My wife and I have stayed here on numerous occasions, the last time being before our wedding in Volterra in October of 2006. All of our guests stayed here for the wedding and loved it. For a three star hotel it is top of the range.

The hotel is located right in the centre of the town close to the 'Plaza dei Priori' with a plethera of excellent restaurants and cafe's. ('La Veccia Lira' is a recommended restaurant which is just up the street).

Very good breakfast and the rooms are of an excellent standard for the 3 star hotel.

The owners Giuseppina and Lisa are very attentive and welcoming.

This hotel will always have a place in our hearts.........

This hotel is located in the centre of Volterra so was very easy to find and it was close to restarants and so on. We had a nice big room with ensuite, although the shower was pretty pokey. It was located on the first floor at the front of the hotel (Room No. 21), above a busy street. There's no car traffic but there's lots of pedestrians and the narrowness of the street funnels the noise up. So it was quite noisy in our room particularly after the bars closed, and also early in the morning when the street cleaning trucks and rubbish trucks passed by. I'd recommend asking for a room at the back of the hotel.

We've stayed in the Albergo Etruria on two separate occasions over the last year, and we love it. It's true that the rooms at the top of the Hotel are a long trek up, but the views fro the roof garden on a fine day are well worth it. On a warm night you can take a bottle of wine out onto the roof garden and sit and contemplate life!
The breakfasts are gorgeous - wonderful coffee, nice bread with cheese and meats, and a slice of their cake or a fig or two to top it off!
The beauty of this hotel are the friendly owners, and the fact that the hotel is right in the Centre of one of the most beautiful towns in Tuscany....can't wait for our next trip to Volterra.

  • Liked — great location; large rooms depending on which floor; shared living room, great roof garden
  • Disliked — showers could do with some work
  • Tips/Secrets: — If travelling with young children or older friends or family members make sure not to boo a room too high up as there are no lifts

When I found the website for the Hotel Etruria, the hotel looked great. One major suprise was that there was no elevator and since we were on the top floor we had to walk up at least 10 flights of stairs with our luggage to get to our room. There was no one to help us and we nearly turned around and went to find another hotel. When we finally made it to the room, we found it to be clean and comfortable. Defintely no frills. The roof garden is nice but the weather didn't cooperate when we were there so we didn't get to take advantage of it. We only stayed 1 night and made due but will not return. The hotel states that there is internet, however, there is none.

We chose the Hotel Etruria for our little intimate wedding ceremony. The hotel has a little, cute garden on it's top level, just perfect for us with our three children to have champagne and an intimate ceremony.

The rooms are adequate, a little small and dark, but clean. We chose it because the hotel is ideally located in a central spot in the medieval part of town, with their own private garden, which opens by a gate onto the city park. Our room happened to be the room closest to the garden.

Volterra is a lovely Tuscan hilltown. Big enough to offer museums, restaurants, etc., but not too crowded with lots of tourists. May is perfect there, warm but not hot. The drive to Volterra is through country filled with flowers and orchards.
