“Very beautiful and historic.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

Not only is this little walled town beautiful, but it is full of gorgeous places to see and eat.
We only spent an afternoon there ,and granted it is out of season ,so probably best time to avoid the crowds, but just lovely.
Some terrific little shops selling wines and local produce.Alabaster shops as this is the local stone, nice souvenirs that are a little more classy than usual.
Saw lots of restaurants so very much worth a return to try some.

“Very interesting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 25, 2013

The first thing I would like to share is the land surrounding Volterra. It is a colour that I haven't seen anywhere else. Almost white and barren. But it has a beauty that absolutely draws you to stop the car and take pictures. The town itself is full of history. I highly recommend that you visit the tourist bureau which is located in the square itself (Piazza dei Priorri). These people are so friendly and prepared to help you in every way. Take their advice on what to see. It definetely was a great help ! An absolute must is the Roman theatre ! But take the route through the park. It is longer, but it is worth it. Oh yes, you haven't been to Volterra if you haven't purchased a souvenir from one of the alabaster shops !

“The heart of Tuscany”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2013

My family and I spent 3 weeks in the area and found ourselves coming back to Volterra on numerous occasions. Not only does it offer a vast array of its own attractions, as the biggest town in the region it has all the services, restaurants, banks, tourist office etc that is needed for a longer stay.
