At lunch this unpretentious and friendly place is partly self-service which requires you to adapt rather quickly, get the idea of the place, and make your choices on the hoof. If you get it right this formula is rather an advantage. If, like us, you are on a passing visit to Volterra and want to eat something quickly, but with a modicum of atmosphere and culinary satisfaction, the place is even perfect. It is the local seat of the Slow Food association so it is perfect to sample local produce like cheese and sausages, and the rest of the food is honest and good value. The staff are cheerful and friendly in a Tuscan way - some good-humoured banter is always to be expected.
