When we checked in after a long plane & train ride, we tired, hungry and HOT. We went to our room, which was small and hot. We wanted a room with 2 beds and we got that, but the beds were barely a foot apart. The closet was small and had 4 hangers and were told they didn't have any more. We turned the A/C on and went to dinner. When we returned the room was hotter! Yet the front desk insisted it was on. The next night, after complaining again the man came up to our room and offered us a suite for the same price on a lower level which "got so cold you had to get up at night and turn the AC off. We agreed, but we got absolutely no help moving and it only had a king bed and a sofa bed. We were so tired it didn't matter. Both the bed and sofa bed had about 2 in. mattresses that are hard, and two hard pillows that were about 1 inch thick. (same as 1st room) This seems to be usual for Italy. Anyway we never did get much, if any AC. Come to find out, they control it at the front desk and tell you it is on when it isn't. When it's on, it's set so high, that most nights we got cooler air from the window. Problem there was, no screens or shutters and the noise from the street was horrible! Usually 1 siren an hour at least! Finally, we had to go out and buy fans. There is never more than 1 person at the hotel at night and if you don't have your room cleaned by noon, forget it, she goes home. The staff are extremely nice, but seem to have their hands tied by the owner. The last night we had NO hot water! Even though it was hot, it made for icy showers. When we called the front desk, we were told the owner was the only one who could turn it on and he was gone for the night. We left the next day, but a friend staying there didn't have hot water the next 3 days until she left. Don't know if they have it back or not. The breakfast is 3 kinds of stale cereal, yogurt, prunes, hard toast in a package with jelly, croissants, cake and bread with ham and cheese. 2 juices, water and coffee. Same exact thing every day. Clean enough, though the shower enclosures don't close tight, so we had water all over the floor in both rooms we had.
