“Great beach holiday”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2010

We had a great holiday with our 1 year old baby. The sea and sand are incredible.
We stayed in the superior bungalows and had access to a separate restaurant which I think was worth paying for
As we did not go in peak season the atmosphere was fairly calm quiet which we liked. I beleive that in August the resort is very busy and buzzing with young people partying!
If you want to get a good night's sleep it is probably worth requesting a bungalow/appartment as far away as possible from the night time animation which was quite loud. With a baby we needed to go to bed quite early and the music from the talent contest kept us awake on some nights.
Umbrellas on the beach with two sunloungers are quite expensive, the cheapest in the back rows cost 12 Euros per day but are worth it for comfort.
The food in the restaurant is of a good standard and there is plenty of choice as long as you dont mind a buffet style.

My family (4 young kids) spent two weeks at Tanka Village. We had a really good time and would highly recommend it for families. Service was impeccable and welcoming. Bedrooms (we stayed in the Domus apartments) were immaculately clean and light. The restaurant food was varied and also excellent. (The buffet style suited us as a family). You would be hard pushed to find better beaches and clearer water anywhere else in the mediterranean. We didn't actually use the kids' clubs as we prefer to hang out out with them on holiday - but the kids still made plenty of Italian friends on the beach and in the evenings.

The two older kids (12 and 10) did a PADI open water diving course course (three pool sessions then two sea dives) - the instructor was fantastic and it was a highlight of the holiday for them.

We also hired a a boat (rib) directly from the beach on a couple of days and went island hopping, snorkelling and fishing. Again, the onboard skipper could not have been nicer to us.

Most evenings, post dinner, we just wandered around the main piazza and had drinks near the pool or perused the shops, while the kids raced about with new found friends. There is plenty of organised evening entertainment for adults and kids such as musical shows, movies, outdoor plays etc.-personally they don't do much for me - and it's true that most of these are in Italian but honestly, so what ? (actually the kids loved them anyway).

Tanka is a big resort - there are a lot of rooms but the apartments/bungalows are thoughtfully and discreetly laid out across the resort so there is a nice sense of green and space. We never had any feeling over overcrowdedness, even though we were there during peak holiday time. We hired a bicycle to ferry our two younger kids back and forth from the beach to the bedroom under the hot sun.

The resort is indeed predominantly made up of Italian holidaymakers (90%+) with a sprinkling of other nationalities - i.e.a few Russians & Brits. Some of the other reviews note that barely any of the staff speak English, but this is patently untrue. Anyway we enjoyed mixing with the Italian culture and people. Italians are generally real anglophiles and very keen to practice their English on you once the ice is broken.

The only extra cost which many Brit holidaymakers might not be not expecting is indeed the beach umbrella and loungers - as mentioned in other reviews.

Overall - pretty much faultless.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Tanka Village Resort for a conference. My mother and sister enjoyed the stay with me. We were on full room and board, with all meals included at the Oasys Restaurant. I guess that for a four star resort the room (at least the type we were in) left something to be desired - but it was very clean, big enough, and offered a private patio with a beautiful view. NOTE to business travelers - internet access was only available in the lobby, and cost 6 euro per hour. We were about a half mile from the beach/resort center, and we decided to consider the regular walking our "exercise" to make up for all of the food we were eating :) I thought the food was OUTSTANDING. The food at American all-inclusive resorts is often something akin to cafeteria food... not at ALL the case here. We ate at the Oasys, and also ventured away from our meal plan to try the Stella di Mare and the pizzeria. I barely speak any Italian (I learned a few survival phrases for the trip), and everywhere we went on the resort we were able to find staff members who spoke English. Everyone was very accommodating and friendly. We also went to the cabaret/variety shows each night we were there, and were amazed at how much can be communicated through body language alone! We all laughed and enjoyed the shows without understanding more than a few words. We did all of our swimming in the large, pristine pool, but we also enjoyed wading into the ocean and walking along Punto Beach a few times. All in all, a FANTASTIC vacation, and I truly hope I can make it back to the Tanka Village Resort someday!

First of all is a really expensive price for a box room. All the rooms have very functional furniture, we saw different kind of rooms with different rates and you couldn't understand the huge different for something very similar. When you check in at the from desk they give to you a Tanka card that you have to top up all time to pay at the complex's restaurants, bars...
If you like the big resorts where if you don't want you don't have to go out, and you want to have relax, it’s the ideal place, but honestly for those prices you can find a lot of better hotels around Sardinia and around the world.

Yes, they have got very big territory, sad that we cant use this little cars as stuff use.. because sometimes under heat was not easy going throught it :))))))we have been there only for weekend.. well we not very like our bungalow, we was expect to see some thing more modern-and it looks more countryside :) but in other cases it was good. Stuff really dont speak english, only on reception and in bar near shops... but i think its pretty enought to explaine what you want. the most dissapointed was that ironing they have only in laundry, and it works only till 1pm! so, if you need to iron something you need to do it before beach, and not in the evening before dinner, when always prefer do this..

dinner was great, it was a bit different each day and have got so much different dishes, but breakfast i dont like!!!! it was each day the same and also too less hor dishes, only sandwiches and cackes more :((( that was dissapointed that similar breakfast.
and also when i asked about help of ironing firstly they was promise to bring it, when we back from sea we havent seen it in room, become angry and call to reception, and they sad oh but we havent got such offer! so!!! they even dont know before what they had or what not! because of them i cant iron my dresses 2 evenings! because they cant explaine from the begining what they had or not..

also, it was swritten in website that there are 5 restaurants, but i guess works only 3-4.. expecially we was angry when there was a party of L'oreal! when they close 2 restaurants... about such event necessary to tell! because they made some dicsomfort to us....

but as i said its nice place, anyway , lots things to do, and its much more funny and active n the evening than closest 5* hotel, there was more boring as people said.. also you coulkd take a boat or go with excursion and to see incredible beaches of Sardinia.. good place, anyway could advise to go there

Tanka resort is great if you get it cheap. For a quickie week away in the sun and you want a 2 1/2hr flight to get great beachies and fantastic scenery then this is for you.

If you are planning to stay here as your only holiday for the year, please think long & hard about it, unless you like Butlins in the sun! This may sound a bit harsh, because the food was ok. The buffet was good quality & plentiful. Seating was a bit of a bunfight, get there at 7.30 and you were ok. You also got beer, wine and/or water included. But they had nightly entertainment all in Italian and organised sports (in Italian).

The pizza joint was good too, but you had to book at the little hut in the center before 5 or 5.30 dependant on how the fancy took them to get a table. The advantage her was the free wine came in bottle not in a jug. I can drink a lot of free wine, trust me.

You get 10% discount from the pay restraunt where the menu was limited with starters about 8euros and mains about 16. The fillet steak was nice & wine was about 20 euros. We had a meal for 2 with wine about 65 euros. Not bad but really not for veggies or fussy eaters.

The resort was full of italians but they were pleasant enough, the staff were mostly italian & apart from 1 or 2 who were rude to my better half, they were ok. A couple spoke good English & were happy to chat. They love kids, so if you have children happy days. We took a 2 yr old and they adored him everywhere.

The card payment system worked ok but be prepared to pay heavy prices 3.5 euros for a pint of beer, 4 for a glass of wine. 8 for a coctail. You will top the bloody card up all the time.

The beach here is white, clean, with the clearest sea I have seen anywhere in the med. The sun beds are sooooo expensive though be warned. 12 euros a bed at the back up 33 euros for the front. You could end up paying a shed load of your hard earned cash just for a sun lounger. You also need to book them in the little hut, don't expect a little man to come and collect your money. Then the little italians come & wave a reciept in your face before kicking you off the sun bed - be warned !!!

Our room was large, bright with a blacony, really nice. Our friends however was on the bottom floor with no view, no light & was rubbish. Don't go for the room with the internal floor in it, I think ours was a bungalow.

Be prepared to be eaten alive by insects too!!! I have not been biten so badly for years. I have travelled all over the world and I can honestly say this is the worst I have ever been biten. I counted 17 on one leg alone. The weird thing is after a week they stopped attacking us, fresh meat I suppose.

Sardinia itself is fantastic, I hired a bycycle, you have got to be fit the moutain roads are fantastic for the keen cyclist & in good condition. I'd go back just for the cycling alone. Villasimius is ok, some nice bars but don't expect San Antonia, lively it is not. This is NOT a boozy brits resort. This is quite, peaceful, relaxing, I felt I had gone back 30yrs when I first went to Greece or Spain & very few people spoke English, the food was basic but wholesome & the way of life was simple. To be honest it was refreshing.

Caglari was nice, lots to see & do. On the whole Sardinia is not cheap but where is these days with the Euro. Be prepared to take a £1000 spending money for 2 people for a week, it'll burn through your wallet, well if you like to eat, drink & be merry like us it will !! Enjoy
