Forte Hotel in Vieste
This hotel is ideal for a bathing or nature experience holiday. A very friendly and helpful staff that can advise you about excursions in the Gargano National Park, how to park, where to get sunbeds and parasols or where to buy the best local wine. In front of the hotel there was a huge supervised parking area and behind the parking area you will find the most perfect sandy beach and The Adriatic Sea with its fantastic blue water. And here it is shallow!
Our room seemed to be recently updated, clean and light with a big balcony from which you had a good view of your car in the parking place and behind that the beach and the Adriatic. It was rather large and with enough of wardrobes. A pleasant marble floor and of course you had a modern flat-TV screen and the bathroom was spacious with a comfortable shower cabin and very good towels. The double bed was very comfortable and we slept very well.
Fortunately we had booked with half board which was a real hit. For breakfast there was an probably unique assortment to choose from and the dinner was an experience in the best Italian way, every day with different dishes to choose from but always with pasta and finishing with an unbelievably large portion of fresh fruits. However, what we found best was to choose wine for dinner and discuss with the fantastic Michele, the waiter, and listen to his knowledge of local grapes and wine. And best of al,l the wine here was really not overpriced.
After dinner you had a fifteen minutes’ walk to to be in the city centre, and that was probably good for you after that dinner.
Walking around in the historic centre is a special experience like walking in timelessness.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the Adriatic

nice little hotel ,nice rooms ,clean enviroment, 10 minutes WALK to the city centre ,and across a very nice beach ..the guys at reception were kind of welcoming and polite ,but not more than they had to ..
.once in your room you dont need to deal with them again so,its okay
...breakfast was VERY continental but poor in choice..but the restaurant for lunch and dinner was more than adeguate..the restaurant staff was quite friendly and very accomodating ,even if a bit rough around the edges...actually one of the waiters was selling very good olive oil......

..careful if you go with kids....it claimed to be child friendly but they had NOTHING to keep children entertained ,and if that was not bad enough ,once we got in the pool area there was an over zelous life guard, that followed our every move and kept telling the children off ..
maybe they should be told that children by a pool ,occasionally might JUMP IN ....
the guy kept telling people off so it felt as if you were in a prison rather than on a holiday ,it totally put the dampers on our stay, and maybe this is why the pool was always empty.
okay ,to be fair, the beach had that the kids would want, but you may want to relax by the pool occasionally and leave the kids the have fun safely in a pool, rather than in rough and windy sea waters
we went to another hotel for the following week, thank god, not far from the FORTE and a 5 star one at that ,and had no complain for the behaviour of our children from the lifeguard ,actually the kids had a great time there ...
needless to say we wont be rushing back
.

Room Tip: our rooms on the ground floor were very confortable and quiet

We too met the surly receptionist, ate the poor quality food on our stay here. I think they could not be bothered with a tour group. Glad to see that great rail journeys have stopped using it.Vieste is such a beautiful place to visit.

We used this hotel as part of a long tour arranged by Great Rail Journeys of the World as a base for coastal trips from Vieste. From entering, no-one visible for help with bags, surly receptionist, and the room..oh the room, well it took us back to our teens on the Costa's when we had only a small budget. We arrived late afternoon after a very long day on the train and coach and although looking forward to dinner in the evening were dying for say a club sandwich. No Food! We were looked at as if we had asked for Lobster Thermidor and caviar on blinis. A supposed 4 star hotel and not even a sandwich. We complained bitterly to reception, very thick skinned and unhelpful, and to the tour manager, and eventually some stale bread, no butter, and some supermarket ham slices arrived, though these were never charged. On the charging note, we used two pool towels on two days for about an hour each time...the pool was unheated and freezing so we didn't stay too long, and were charged 20 euro's 'to cover the cost of laundering!!!
Food was of poor quality, and the breakfast buffet constantly running out of most things each day and after the first dinner we ate out. We asked, how dare we, for a boiled egg at breakfast....it arrived with the white uncooked slimey and inedible...the tour manager said she would order us a fried egg the following morning and you have never seen an egg look like this one, flattened black burned fat all over it...ugh!
Vieste is teeming with wonderful restaurants at every level and were a delight, another reason for the future, not to do tours with inclusive evening meals. The seafood is both plentiful and very reasonably priced and as fresh as a daisy.
The pool area, within a concrete jungle, was overlooked by apartment buildings and holiday lets and construction on three sides.
The receptionist obviously resented the fact that several of us were eating out and ringing for a taxi took some persuasion. At the very end we were asked to leave our bags outside our rooms for collection which didn't happen. The Forte hotel is neither quiet, well placed for the Old Town....a 20 minute walk or a taxi ride, nor even for the beach which it is set back from across a large carpark and a main road. Vieste is a delightful town, a real jewel in the region, the Forte hotel with it's clean but spartan rooms however is not one of them.

We stayed here for 3 nights. The hotel is 3 minutes from a huge beach. You just have to walk across a car park and negotiate a road. Most rooms seem to have a seaview. Our room was fine with adequate storage for clothes and a good standard generally. We ate at the hotel on the first night as we arrived fairly latish and ended up eating there every night. You had the option of a 4 course meal for 15 euros and the local wine was very reasonably priced around10/12 euros for a bottle. The restaurant manager Michele speaks several languages and is very helpful at explaining the menu and recommending wines. Included in the hotel rate is the use of two loungers and an umbrella on the beach in front of the hotel. You are normally charged 10 euros to hire these. So this is an added bonus. The hotel had a nice swimming pool to the side of the building with loungers and umbrellas as an option.
Its about 10 minutes to walk into Vieste which as lots of restaurants and marina and harbour. The reception staff were very jolly and helpful although their English wasnt too good.

Room Tip: Most rooms seem to have a seaview - so its worth checking when booking.

Lovely hotel and staff. We arrived late by car and the reception arranged for a taxi pizza for us as the restaurant was closed. The receptionist staff were very helpful and the manager allowed me to use his computer to print off copies of our boarding passes. The breakfast was good with a good selection of food including some meat and cheese. We were able to order eggs each morning. There is an outdoor swimming pool.

We spent 3 nights in this wonderful hotel in a triple room the first week of May. Hotel is very clean as are the rooms, just across the road to the beach although there is a parking lot in between. The weather was a little cool so we didn't use either the pool or the beach, but they offer beachfront facilities which seem very nice. They picked us up from the bus station when we got there as we did not have a car. The front desk is very friendly and helpful. Contrary to the previous poster, the breakfast was just beautiful with eggs. croissants, fruit, cheese, cold cuts and fresh buns, juice and wonderful cappuccino as much as we wanted. Michele who looks after breakfast and the evening restaurant Restaurant at night is very friendly and knowledgeable about wines and local food specialties. The food at night was the best we had in Italy throughout our month in Italy ( I'm Italian so I know my food ). When we return to Vieste this will be the Hotel for us. It's also very close to town which is a beautiful little town, it reminds me of Tropea in Calabria.
