We spent three nights at this hotel in late September and found it, on balance, to be quite disappointing. First, the good elements: the breakfast room is very nice, as is the breakfast itself, which was included in our room rate. The woman in the breakfast room who greeted us with a pleasant smile each morning seemed eager to please. But, in marked contrast, the young woman who was generally on the front desk, Paula, was essentially incompetent. Not only was she a sourpuss, she invariably seemed overwrought and completely untrained in even the most basic guest service elements. For example, she said she would make us a reservation on the ferry to the Tremiti Islands. We presumed that had been done and went to the ferry dock the next morning only to find that the ferry had ceased operating for the season the preceding day. Also, when we were leaving the hotel in the morning, we asked that dinner reservations be made at a specific restaurant, and that we be given some ice cubes in the early evening. However, when we returned to the hotel some eight hours later, we were informed that there was no ice (it had not
been made) and that the dinner reservations had similarly not been made.
The room which we initially occupied, which was on the first floor, felt quite closed in, so for the final two nights we paid the upgrade for a room on the top floor (502). The room itself was quite nice, with a terrace area on two sides, but we are 73 and 71 and the elevator went no higher than the second floor. There were (I counted them) 55 steps to get to our room.
The location of the hotel is also far from optimal. It is a substantial distance west of the city proper, and the ten minute or less taxi ride into the town is a ridiculous 15 euros each way. The hotel does overlook a sandy beach area, but in our three days in Vieste we noticed several other locations where we would have preferred to stay. I would definitely NOT recommend this hotel, at least not to any experienced U.S. traveler who does not speak Italian.
Try to get a terrace room facing the sea on either the second or third floor, unless you are prepare...
