“Great views, not so great location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2013

This was our home-base for our south Italy trip. The views are spectacular, each room has a balcony overlooking Sorrento's bay and this really makes the morning wake up a significant and great part of the trip.
The manager is a lovely man, very nice and helpful. The restaurants he recommended were excellent and it was always nice to get back after a day trip to a smiling face on the reception. Aside from the manager, I have nothing but good words to all of the hotel's staff which were as kind as it gets.

So why only 3-star? The room itself was a bit small and the shower was poorly designed and badly lightened. Breakfast was very very basic- I'm not sure how it is in other 3-star hotel but the 4-star hotel in Rome was a huge step up when it comes to the first meal of the day.
The main reason we were a bit disappointed was that the hotel is in the middle of nothing- it's obviously no place for someone without a car, (although we had car). The problem is you have to drive to everywhere- 20 minutes to Sorrento is not a great deal but I would much rather walk back to the hotel after an Italian dinner and Italian wine.
If I were back to Sorrento, I would try and take a hotel in the town or close to it, one that offers a shuttle service to and back from the city center. The prices for a room without a sea view are about the same as the prices for a sea view room in Mega Mare, and seeing that you don't sped so much time in the room- the location is more important to me then the room view.

We spent a week at Hotel Mega Mare - hospitality was wonderful, the staff is great and the hotel owners spared no effort to give guests a luxurious homely feel.
View from all rooms - is one of the most beautiful in Italy.
We will return to visit this hotel in the future - Surely!

Normally one would write a hotel review and mention the great view, and the size of the room.
We had an incident which required going to the emrgency room, and were treated by the hotel owner, Mariano Sessa as if we were family.
Mariano, with care and efficiency, made sure that his friend will take us to the hospital, stayed with us there, and took us back to the hotel afterwards.Mariano called the hospital in advance and made sure they took very good care of us.
It made all the difference in the world,to have a local friend on your side, who cares for you.
Thanks you Mariano! It is not something we will forget.
On the normal side of hotel review, there is a wonderful view from the private balcony, which is perfect for relaxing and whats the sunset ,sipping a good wine. The location is perfect, close to Sorrento, Napoli and Pompei

We stayed 4 nights at Mega Mare during March 2013. I can only agree with the many positive views expressed in Tripadvisor. We specially noticed the warm hospitality of the staff and the special personal attention provided to each guest by the owner, Mr. Mariano Sessa. The hotel has a privileged location with best sea views from all rooms.
I'm grateful to our friends who recommended this hotel to us.

The best hotel in a great location and with a wonderful view. The view from the room balcony is like a picture and you can see the sorento bay from there. Our room was very pleasantly designed and clean. The staff, especially Mario and Benny, were hospitable and friendly.
The price was very reasonable. My wife and I recommend!
