“Amazing location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2013

This Hotel is a wonderful place to stay if you want to enjoy the Sorrento coast at its best. The view is breathtaking and the Vesuvius is just impressive. The staff is very kind and helpful, Emilia, the girl at the reception, is really friendly and she really helped me a lot with all my requests. It is well situated, few metres away from the Circumvesuviana train station, so it is easy to go and come back from Sorrento, Naples or Pompei. The restaurant is very good too, food is delicious and you can really taste the Mediterrenean cuisine.
I have been there for a congress, so I stayed for few days only but I will definitely come back for a longer holiday.

I was there as a teacher with a party of 40 teenageers and an additional 3 teachers. The location is beautiful and very central for exploring the Amalfi Coast, Naples, Pompeii etc. The train station is a 2 minute walk with regular services to Sorrento and Naples.
The staff are very friendly and accomodating and the hotel is beautiful. The rooms we had were basic but the service we received was wonderful.
A great stay and much appreciated by all 44 in our party.

The Oriente at Vico Equense is a wonderful place to discover. It is quite a vast hotel landscape actually, with lovely views on the Golfo di Napoli. The sunset views from the restaurant (or the many individually shaped balconies) are unforgettable. The hotel is a group of interconnected buildings that sit in niches directly at the coast. Very practical: 4 minutes from the Circumvesuviana train station and buses. All the rooms are individual, and also individually furnished, some of them with lovely antique pieces. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful in all respects. The restaurant is recommendable too. They serve a variety of local dishes and excellent wine. We have been there for the third time now - and will come back. It is definitely not just another standard hotel.

Hotel Oriente is in a fantastic location in Vico Equense. It is situated on one of the mountain roads and is directly opposite the main train station and local bus station with good services in to Sorrento.

This hotel is vast and has an eclectic mix of "oriental" - chinese, thai and european decor. Ranging from large buddha statues, to ornate furniture, and tapestries hung on the wall. On entering the hotel there is the reception desk as you would expect and then there is a vast lobby area which has free wifi on this level for the guests - although each day you will need to ask for a new password, as access is given on a 24 hour basis.

Once you have checked in and received your room key the initiation test is to find your room! This hotel has a maze of corridors and alcoves. There is no logical order to the room numbering and when you go downstairs to find your room, you will discover there are several minus numbered floors, such as level -2. So if using the lift 0 is the ground floor - or reception level, then it goes -1, -2, -3, -3 - yes there are two -3 buttons! For some of the rooms you will literally walk down some steps in to the garden / external areas before coming to a corridor where you will find your room. Many of the rooms have small balconies or its own veranda.

The rooms themselves vary - I was in a room which looked like it had a double bed, although it was actually a twin zip link - you could feel the join in the middle. However it was comfortable enough. There was a small TV mounted on the wall - although this did not work. There was a small radiator in the room - again this did not work - however there was an air conditioning unit you could use to warm up the room - although make sure you get the controller from reception. Inside the wardrobe there were some additional blankets and pillows. I used these on the first night as it was quite cold initially, and I placed these on top of the bedspread. It was good to see that the next day when the bed was made the blankets had been placed under the bedspread. The bathroom was adequate and did the job although on the tiles there were some stickers of butterflies which were peeling off this seemed a little bizarre. The shower was quite old and had a hot and cold mixer tap - the hot water would get pretty hot although only trickled and then if you turn on the cold tap the water was freezing - so it was a bit of a struggle to get the water temperature just right.

With the tiled floors in this hotel, particularly in the corridors noise travels and you can hear people walking in the corridors and bedrooms doors opening and closing. As the hotel is on the side of a mountain, when cars go round the corner you will also hear them beeping their horn. The hotel is also in a bay so the noise from the restaurants and bars across the road is also carried and can be heard in your hotel room.

The signage in the corridors consisted of A4 pieces of laminated paper stuck on the wall with an arrow pointing you in the direction of the beach or the restaurant.

On the floor below reception there is a large dining room where breakfast was served. This was a very basic continental breakfast of bread, cheese, ham and juice. Then you could have coffee, tea or hot chocolate. Nothing very spectacular here.

On the reception level there was another large function room. This hotel has so much space it would be a fantastic location for conferences and weddings - although when I stayed there they did not open the restaurant for any evening meals which was surprising.

I stayed at this hotel at the start of the season and the rooms needed to be warmed up as there had been a lot of rain and the rooms were cold and some a little damp. A refurbishment would spruce it up and a more consistent theme would make it more appealing - the mish mash of artwork gives a rather bizarre first impression.

Beautifully situated above the gulf of Vico. Spacey rooms, corridors, reception hall. Nice balcony at the rooms with the sea view. Beautifully styled, a mixture of different civilizations (Chinese, roman, ancient Greek, Venetian, French provencale and more). Be sure to see the crib at floor -2. If you are wondering how somebody could combine all this then visit Hotel Oriental. My girlfriend says that it’s the best hotel I’ve ever taken her to, but I’m not sure if she’s kidding. To me it was the perfect kitsch…
The bed is good. The bathroom would need some renovation.
Cable internet in the hall when you provide your own computer. Parking about 100 m from the hotel and only video controlled.
Poor breakfast in a great breakfast room with beautiful view, bad coffee, but a very good chocolate. No eggs, only one marmalade.
The 60 € for the double are OK as regards the beautiful kitsch and the view from the hotel. Concerning the rest … I'd say it's a little too much.
