My husband and I are American food lovers who spent a week in Italy with two Italian friends. We were staying at the wonderful Sunflower B&B and stumbled onto this place while looking for a nearby dinner spot. What an amazing find - wow! Lovely atmosphere and a friendly owner who happily provided recommendations ... and most of all, fabulous food. The consensus from all of us (including the Italians): The best pasta we have ever had, hands down ... and the rest of the meal was amazing as well.
At the owner's recommendation, we started with the Antipasto della Casa - prosciutto crudo, salumi, fiore di latte mozzarella, some wonderful savory pastries with scamorza, eggplant and peppers, and the highlight - homemade ricotta, which simply melted in the mouth. (Seriously, the place is worth a visit to sample that alone.)
The star of the evening was the house specialty pasta - Candele spezzate di Gragnano alla Genovese di Maiale con Provolone del monaco. It was homemade pasta in a sauce with Genoese pork and provolone ... but that doesn't begin to describe it. Just order it and you'll see - it's unlike anything I've ever had and something you could never make for yourself at home. Even our Italian friends said it was the best pasta they'd ever had.
One person also ordered the Recchietelle Salsicce e Broccoli, which was also delicious, though nothing compared to the candele.
Also worth ordering are the Patate Fresche e Fritte. Most Italian French fries are steak fries, which I don't care for, but these were closer to perfect American fries - small triangles of perfectly crunchy, golden brown potato. We were given two kinds - one plain and the other with pecorino, pepper and salt. Both were fantastic.
Prices were also unbelievable. The antipasto platter was 20 Euro and satisfied 4 people, and the pastas were 10 Euros. We paid twice that for food that was half as good the rest of the trip.
The only thing missing from this place were customers! It's a fairly new restaurant, and word must not have gotten out yet (though to be fair, we were there on a Monday). But don't be put off by the availability - I can't imagine a better place for pasta in the region.
