“A lovely place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 22, 2013

I'm originally from England but I live in Italy. We decided to stay here because some friends from Italy were getting married in Positano and we wanted to avoid the high cost of sleeping there after the wedding. I will say that this is not the easiest place to get to, made worse by the fact that we took a slightly wrong road which meant driving up the edge of the mountain! It made me laugh when we got there and they asked us if the car was LPG because of the stink! That being said, it was a fun experience driving up the wrong way so I'll keep that as a positive aspect! It was definitely worth it as the view from the mountain is FABULOUS! It is truly beautiful there.

The B&B itself was extremely presentable and well managed. The owners were unbelievably helpful and catered for all our needs; the man (excuse me if I have forgotten his name!) even lead us down the right road to get to Positano as we were almost running late for the wedding! That also meant we came back up the right way afterwards too!

I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants to stay in the zone - as long as they have a car and are confident drivers. The price is very competitive for the zone. Check it out!

Room Tip: I'm sure the rooms on the top floor with a view across the valley have an absolutely splendid vi...

Overall this is a difficult place to rate due to the juxtaposition of the different elements of the visit. taking the experience chronologically is probably the best way to give you a thorough insight.

Using Sam and Maria's directions we were able to locate the B&B right first time, however it was not without it's own ... experiences! the driving style is somewhat different to Western Europe and not for the feint hearted, not to say that you shouldn't try it, but make sure you hire the smallest car you can afford to! not the least of which is because the roads to the B&B Get smaller and smaller until you start to think walking maybe the only safe option!

Once you arrive at the venue however, it all becomes worth it! the house itself is spotlessly clean and immaculately maintained, the rooms are clean and solid. we had the room at the front of the house with our own little balcony. very nice.

Upstairs on the roof top terrace, a majestic view of the Bay of Naples, Vesuvius and the rolling hills are spectacular.

Unfortunately, in the morning we realised how noisy it could get. the other residents at the time both had very young children and when they were having breakfast at 8:00 in the morning we could hear every Italian word that was said, eventually having been robbed of any lie in, we got up and got on with our day. unfortunately this proved to be the model for every morning.

Ideally the upstairs could do with being carpeted to dull the passage of noise through the floor. it was a very unfortunate negative to a very nice stay.

Room Tip: upstairs at the back of the house is a must or downstairs at the back of the house. steer clear of t...

Having read the previous reviews we couldnt help but to give this bed and breakfast a go. We had a rough idea where the bed and breakfast was, but given the dramatic scenery and tight twisting roads we seemed to become distracted and soon lost our bearings. Sat nav advised. On our arrival we were greeted by Sam who was such a pleasant fellow and made us coffee and gave us a tour of the house, which has been finished to a good standard. He advised us that breakfast was from 8-10. Breakfast was somewhat a low key affair with just me and my wife. Sam was very helpful and gave what was advised as a continental breakfast to a personal level and made us breakfast on a whatever you want is no trouble basis. This set the trent for our whole stay. The roof top terrace provides beautiful views of the bay of naples and surrounding hills. There is a very local and friendly vibe to this bed and breakfast, the ammenities in the local village arola are well equiped however heading into the main towns would be more rewarding. Car hire is a must with everything on the coast within easy reach. Overall a lovely friendly, clean place to stay.

Accomodation itself, the room - really large, comfortable, clean and like very new with bathroom - also really nice, with Villeroy&Boch washbasin, toilette and bidet. The bed was also really big and what was great it was one big mattress.
Only one thing- you really need a car to get there. Ideal the smaller one - because of narrow streets up to hills.
The view was beautiful! And you don´t have to pay for it!)
Sam and Maria were very kind, cappucino and espresso done for us every morning was veryyy good and our all thanks to Sam - he was very helpful with any our question, such as he reccomended us restaurant Torre Ferrano- 3 mins by car in Arola - we were so surprised by great view, really good tastes, and building itself. I really reccomend you this restaurant, as it was sooo romantic to go there.
Our trips - to Naples (you certainly will not be hungry there - any kind of perfect small "slow food" - for great prices), we rent a boat to Capri - really great as in Italy is a person without sailor license allowed to ride 40 horsepower boat - really fast in comparison to Croatia limit of 5 horsepowers.
In this area are beautifull and cheap vegetables grown here.
In Vico Equense was the best pizza I´ve ever tasted - really go there - I´ve found it in Lonely Planet book and it worth visit- the place itself looked like really nice - it is for around 200 persons! - Pizza a metro - you must go there!
Also Pompei is a must see - we almost missed it, but it was one of the best things to see, it´s very large whole city- 2 hours are not enough, whole streets, full of homes, unbelieveable...

In comparison to hotels for amount of money we gave for this accomodation I´m absolutely sure, this is the top!

Also, I slept really good, as we were up in hills in quiet area, as I´ve read a lot of reviews in Sorrento and in Sorrento peninsula and in most of them people complained for thin walls and noisiness.

We also had internet, so it was like our second home.

My husband and I are Americans, and we stayed at this B&B with some friends who are Italian. We all agreed - what a marvelous place! Our Italian friends said it's one of the nicest in Italy they've ever been to.

We stayed in the Sun Room, and our friends stayed in the Sea Room, and unlike a lot of American B&Bs, it's not frilly or cheesy at all; the decor is modern and minimalist, yet warm. And the view - wow. The Sun Room opens onto a rooftop patio with comfortable furniture and an amazing view of the Bay of Naples, Mt. Vesuvius, and the various towns and villages built into the surrounding hillside. We spent a lot of time out there in the mornings before breakfast, just savoring the fabulous scenery.

The rooms were both very large, and so were the adjoining baths, esp. for Europe. The shower was nice, with doors, and they provided soap, shampoo, towels and hairdryers (not always a given in Europe). The beds were really large - close to king-size - and very comfortable. The rooms both had TVs with satellite.

The owners are very kind and friendly, and they include a lot of touches to appeal to Americans - e.g., when we arrived at 4:30, Sam offered us coffee or cappuccino. And the breakfast was far more than the typical Italian cappuccino and cornetto - we were offered juice, toast (!), homemade pear bread, homemade foccaccia, and various other breads with jams, spreadable cheese and even butter - again, a nice American touch.

The highlight, however, was the pizza-making lesson. Apparently, we were the first guests ever to take advantage of this offer, and it was a blast. We were expecting a kind of cheesy touristy thing, but instead, the entire family of the B&B owners, plus some neighbors, gathered together to teach us all to make authentic Neopolitan pizza in a wood-fired oven built by the neighbor. I cannot tell you what an amazing and fun cultural experience this was - not only learning to make great pizza, but also getting this glimpse of Italian home life. Plus, we got to eat fantastic pizza (topped with their own tomatoes, veggies and olive oil - yes, they even make their own olive oil!) and homemade tiramisu, plus sample wine, limoncello and fennel liquor made from their own homegrown produce. All of it was fantastic, esp. for the 35 Euro per couple that we paid.

The one caveat with this B&B is that the drive up to it is rather hair-raising. I honestly can't imagine an American tackling it, although the owners said they have many American guests ... if my husband and I had been driving, we probably wouldn't have made it. The road is VERY narrow, with a lot of switchbacks, and the other drivers (including trucks and buses) do NOT slow down, no matter how tight the road is. And getting into the B&B lot pretty much requires an 8-point turn ... we noticed the next day that the people who live there don't even bother to turn, but instead just throw their cars into reverse and back all the way up the road.

But if you can manage that, it's totally worth it; I can't imagine a nicer place to stay in this region.

Also, if you're looking for a great, nearby dinner spot, do try Agriturismo Villa Chiara. It's a stone's throw away, and it had the best pasta we've ever had in our lives - wow. And at extremely reasonable prices, too.

We spent the first weekend at this so nice place with my wife and friends. The "sea" room is so nice, clean, nice decorated with a huge bathroom! Excellent place and people Maria and Sam! Surely we come back another time! We have to try the "sun" room! Thanks for all! István and his company from Hungary

Nice, comfortable, clean hotel, pleasant owners, you need the car to get there.
If by car you need 10minutes to get to the see. And to have a great view on the mountains you need just to go out :)
