“Good hotel in a good location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 22, 2012

Don't be put off by negative comments - this is a very good hotel. The room we stayed in on the first floor was a decent size, comfortable bed, excellent shower/wc (but no bath), fridge & hairdryer, balcony (over a side street so no view) and was cleaned to a high standard. We found all the staff friendly and helpful. No safe in room but you can ask for one under the stairs in the main reception area free of charge. There is a good choice at breakfast, cereals, fruit, yoghurts, croissants, bread rolls, eggs - boiled & scrambled, bacon, cold meats, toasting machine & a coffee machine with hot water option if you want to make tea from the extensive teabag collection. On the roof of the hotel there is a great roof top terrace with sun loungers & plastic chairs & tables - lovely for watching the sun go down with a bottle of Chianti. The hotel is in an excellent location right on the front and good for getting around, just ten minutes or so walk from the train station with hourly trains to Florence, Pisa, Lucca & Montecatini Terme. Viareggio itself is laid out in a grid system so it is easy to navigate. There is a daily market just 5 mins from hotel, plenty of shops, and two supermarkets within 5-10 mins walk. For culinary diversity there is a decent Chinese restaurant 5 mins from hotel, at least 2 good kebab shops nearby & even a Burger King on the front (£6 for a burger though!). Viareggio is expensive but is a really pleasant place to stay - no lager louts here.Oh and if you like your ice cream you must try Grom opposite the Grand Hotel on the front. You won't regret it.

“Pleasant Suprise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2011

Was not sure we would be staying in Viareggio so I made late reservations for August. Hotel Eden was in the right spot, at the right price, a wonderful breakfast included and a rooftop terrace to share a fine chianti with friends and watch the sun go down.

“lovely hotel !!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 4, 2011

Very nice hotel ... clean, comfortable, with polite and helpful staff (they printed us the train schedule, ordered a taxi for Pisa airport, etc). Very good breakfast, with all kind of pastry & cakes, fruits, cheese, eggs and bacon, coffee... Close to the sea and promenade with shops and restaurants. The rooms were lovely, newly refurbished and cozy. They also have a roof terrace with sea view.
It was a very good choice and I would return there.

“Just Great”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2011

Having seen some of the negative comments in previous reviews we did wonder if we had made the right choice and I have to say we definately did! We found the hotel to be clean, comfortable, all the staff were friendly & the all the staff on the front desk were always extremely helpful & polite. The hotel is in a great location however, we would definately recommend eating in the restaurants away from the promenade (in the streets behind the hotel) as the food was always cheaper & really well prepared.

We went to both Florence & Pisa by train (ten minute walk from the hotel) and saved a tidy sum by not booking with the tour operator. The hotel had all the train times and we had no problems at all with the service.

Overall a great holiday!

Room Tip: We had a room on the first floor with a side sea-view and the sun was on the balcony late afternoon

“A good compromise”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2011

We had an overall very nice stay at Hotel Eden.
Location is excellent, just along the main avenue near to the beach, not far from the harbour and the shipyards area. There are lots of restaurants and shops nearby (check the Seagulls restaurant !).
Staff is very friendly and helpful.
Our room was not big but you are not supposed to stay in the rooms ! Anyway they are comfortable, well equipped (except a safe is badly missing !) and bathrooms are clean and tidy. Wifi is available and works (well in the common areas, less so in the room), but you have to use a login card (for a small fee). The cost is not the issue, just the fact that you need to input again login and password every time you disconnect - which happened too often to me !
Breakfast is nice, there is lots of different food available, including fresh fruit (but as often in Italy, tea and coffee are from a machine, and jams and honey come in basic industrial small doses).
There is no parking but ask the reception for a card (small daily fee) which will allow you to park in all the 'blue' areas.
All the beaches are private. We accessed them at 5pm (after our daily tours around Viareggio) and we could enjoy them at no cost ! Just be careful with your cash and valuable goods on the beach. Talking of daily tours : Pisa and Lucca are a must, but try also the Garfagnana area, north of Viareggio : a mountaineous area with lots of charm, beautiful villages (Castenuovo, Isola Santa, Barga...) and good food !
Lastly for those interested, there is a solarium on the last floor.
