“Wouldn't go anywhere else!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2009

Just returned from our 4th consecutive annual visit to the President Hotel. I have to say the standard just keeps improving!
The service is impeccable, from the maid service to Reception, to the Restaurant.
The evening meal in the restaurant is not to be missed. Four courses of delicious Italian fare. Very good value when taken as part of an inclusive package deal. Breakfast is also excellent with a wide choice to please everyone.
First impressions may be that the hotel is quite formal but everyone is so friendly and obliging that it soon becomes a very pleasant oasis of tranquilty.
The family run beach , Irene, across the road, is just as welcoming with a very good lunch time menu, all served with a smile.
Needless to say we will be returning next year!

This hotel is in a perfect location for the beach, bars, restaurants and shopping. We found all of the staff to be very friendly and always helpful. The amenities of the hotel were first class, and the room was a good size, great bed and shower and a balcony to relax on. We had a wonderful stay and would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone.

My husband and I stayed at The President for a week and had a great holiday. The hotel itself was exceptionally clean. Our room was of an average size with a window looking out from the side of the hotel. There was a partial view of the sea, but if booking again we would request a full frontal view with a balcony as we did miss sitting out. The food in the restaurant was first class and the staff were very polite and friendly. We didn't actually use the bar in the hotel at all, as the weather during our stay was beautiful and it was nice to walk outside after a meal in the evening and go for a drink. There are many bars, shops and restaurants stretching right along the promenade and if you continue walking along after about 10mins. will come to a lovely harbour. There is a large market all along the promenade on a Thursday morning. To the rear of the hotel there are some pine woods which are lovely to stroll through in the shade when it is hot. We hired bikes out on one day (available from reception 8 euro per day) and cycled through Lido Di Camaore and then on to Forte dei Marmi (about 12k) all on cycle paths along the coastal road. Rita, our Thomson rep, was very helpful and had a vast knowledge of the area. We booked three separate excursions through Thomson. Firstly visiting Portofino which is a really pretty fishing village. We arrived into the harbour there on the ferry passing all the huge yachts! Our second trip was to Florence, very hot in the city but well worth it to see the stunning buildings. Our third was out to Chianti to visit a manor house to see how the wine was made and then to sample it for ourselves! We made many new friends on this trip, all different nationalities which was really lovely. We used both of the beaches allocated to the hotel these being the 'Bolena' and 'Irene' You have to collect a voucher for both from reception before you go. Bolena is the larger of the two beaches and this is where you have use of the large swimming pool as well as there is not one on site at The President. Free of charge are two deckchairs and a parasol, if you want sunbeds they are an extra 5 euro each and all who use the swimming pool are required to wear swimming hats. All in all the location of this hotel is perfect. Everything you need is close by and yet you are easily placed for going into the beautiful countryside as well. We absolutely loved it!

My wife and I stayed for the latter two weeks of April, members of a bus tour group. Our fifth-floor room was spacious, amply furnished, comfortable and clean (another couple, not satisfied with the size of their room, were promptly given another more to their liking). Our room had an excellent view of the beach, across the seafront promenade and a well-treed piazza close to the hotel. AFter reading complaints about inconsistent water temperature, we were pleased to experience no problems whatsoever in that regard.

The location of the hotel could hardly be bettered in Viareggio. Immediately across the promenade is one of the few stretches of public beach, with plenty of cafes and gelateria along the attractive promenade, mixed in with the often upscale shops targeting tourists, who must be very numerous in the summer judging from the number of commercial swimming establishments lining and monopolizing the greater part of the beach. There are interesting walks in either direction along the promenade. The tourist information office is just around the corner from the hotel. A few minutes walk away is the main shopping area (including open-air market, groceries, and a laundrette) and the bus station, and the railway station is also within easy walking distance.

The staff of this family-run hotel were very friendly and helpful and front-desk staff are fluent in English. Although the WEb-posted menu does not seem to apply off-season, our dinners and breakfasts were very good (with provision for vegetarians). A comfortable lounge, with bar, is well-stocked with coffee-table books on various aspects of Tuscan art and architecture. The only weak point of the hotel is its single small elevator, although we experienced no great delays as a result, the hotel being fairly quiet in April. If we were to return to Viareggio, the President Hotel is definitely where we'd stay again.

Used this hotel as the base of a family trip to Tuscany in Summer 2006. Viareggio is on the coast, and located within comfortable driving distance of Pisa, Florence, Lucca, San Gimigniano etc. At the end of each day trip, the perspective of coming back to this elegant hotel, with wonderful food and excellent service, was a pleasant one indeed. Our room was a large one on a high floor with water view. Room was very comfortable, though the view was not exceptional. Hotel was spotlessly clean. Restaurant (dinner) was very good -- arguably the best pasta I have eaten anywhere, nice fish and meats, generous portions. Service was truly pleasant, especially (but not only) in the restaurant. Would go there again.

We have just returned from our holiday at the Hotel President . This is the second time we have stayed at this hotel as we enjoyed it so much last year. The Food is excellent and the service is second to none. The staff are helpful and friendly and the atmosphere is very friendly. Rooms are very clean and well maintained.

Many people have stayed at this hotel more than once which is always a good sign. It can get overlooked by the larger hotels but if you decide to stay at the president you will not be disappointed.
