“Just gets better!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2013

We have been visiting this hotel every year for the past 7 years and would not stay anywhere else. Thought we were going to struggle this year as Thomson Holidays, in their wisdom, had decided to pull the plug on flights from Manchester to Pisa. The thought of travelling down to Gatwick was just unthinkable. As it turned out we were able to book flights with Ryanair from Liverpool airport and got a really good half-board deal direct with the hotel. We arranged a private transfer on-line with 'Airports taxi transfers' from Pisa to Viareggio and were more than satisfied with all. It may have been a little extra effort in the planning but it was more than worth it. We have previously visited in July but this time we decided to try September. We were a little unlucky with the weather on a couple of days but otherwise it was still superb and the resort was a little quieter. The Hotel on the other hand seemed to be as busy as ever. The food in the restaurant is one of the main reasons we keep coming back, it is truly fantastic. The quality of the breakfast is second to none with everything you could possibly want on the buffet from a glass of Prosecco to sliced meats, cheese, scrambled eggs, fruits, nuts, yogurts, freshly baked bread and croissants to an a la carte menu of crepes, various cooked eggs, sausages , the list just goes on. All at no extra charge. The staff throughout the hotel are all thoroughly professional and very friendly. The 4 course evening meal is a delight too. During the day we just want a relaxing beach holiday but the location is great if you want to visit Florence, Pisa or Cinque Terre which we have done over the years. The hotel provides access to the beach just over the road, Bagno Irene. This too is first class. It is family run and all the staff there are very friendly and accommodating. The beach is kept in pristine condition and the cafe provides a very good selection of drinks, ice creams and lunch menu. We will certainly be returning next year!

Room Tip: A room with a balcony is worth the extra small price.

Excellent Hotel. Our family stayed for 5 days in August and had a wonderful time.

Very helpful and friendly staff that helped us organise trips all over Tuscany.

Beautiful rooms with very attentive staff and the Breakfast Buffet was incredible!!

Both our rooms had partial Sea views but did overlook the crane mentioned by other reviewers but again I can confirm that no work was taking place at the site so this just served as a good landmark for when our walks along the beach took us further than we realised! LOL!

We also used both Beach Clubs that the hotel is associated with and can again confirm excellent facilities and a lovely beach in Viareggio.

The area the hotel is situated in is also ideal with a long promenade of shops with plenty of restaurants, gelateri's, a central bus station and train station - all within walking distance.

We stayed in The President for a week in August and we would agreed with all the comments about the great staff and food. The room we had was perfectly acceptable with a very comfortable bed. We unfortunately had a view overlooking a building site and crane, but apart from that the hotel was really good.

One thing to bear in mind is that this hotel has no outside space whatsoever and no pool. We knew this before we booked but it surprised us how much we missed being able to just chill by a pool or sit outside with a drink. Although you get access to the beach and the pool at a couple of venues across the road, it's not the same so be sure this will not bother you. To go in the pool you have to buy a swimming cap as they are compulsory.

Viareggio itself was nothing special, and we were glad we booked several trips with Thomsons. We went to Portofino, Pisa, Lucca and Florence. The trips were all very well organised with excellent local guides who all spoke very good English. If you do the Florence trip watch out for pickpockets. We saw one female who was carrying a map to make her look more like a tourist who waited until an old man lifted his arms to take a photo and she dipped his bag.

We hired a car and drove south into the Tuscan countryside with fields of Sunflowers, and it was beautiful. We went to San Gimignano which was an incredible medieval walled city and well worth a visit.

To sum up, Viareggio was a little bit like an Italian version of Brighton or Bournemouth, and the Hotel President was excellent as long as you could live with the lack of outside space. The Thomson rep by the way was totally superb.

Room Tip: get a room that faces the sea front

This was our second booking with this lovely hotel, and I must say we are looking forward to booking with them again next year.
We came to them after a week in Siena looking for a few days relaxing by the sea.
The hotel is well situated, just a short walk across the road from the promenade. It proves to be a very convenient location, the promenade being the home for numerous restaurants/cafes and an excellent array of quality shops.
On arrival we were greeted by extremely friendly and helpful reception staff, and this was again reflected by all the other members of the hotel staff with whom we had contact.
Our room was on the fifth floor, it was spacious and airy with excellent panoramic views of the promenade and the beach areas. Housekeeping was wonderfully efficient, the room and en-suite shower room was always fresh and clean.
Breakfast was provided in a light and spacious dining room, a good selection always available and specialities cooked to order on request.
The ground floor areas also included the hotel lounge & bar - a comfortable seating area where you could relax and peruse the provided newspapers and magazines.
In the evening friendly and efficient bar staff catered for your requirements.
The hotel has an arrangement with a couple of the beach resorts where guests can access their facilities at a much reduced daily charge.

We visited this hotel for a week in July 2013. The hotel was lovely and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The hotel was in a good location for the Irene beach, the Balena swimming pool and there were a lot of different restaurants on the promenade to choose from.

Our room was basic and did overlook the building site but it was very clean and all we needed. We were given a free welcome drink and a free leaving drink, which was a lovely touch. The breakfast selection was lovely.

The train station is about 15 mins walk and we visited Florence, Lucca and Pisa by train. We hired a car from Europcar at the train station and drove to Siena, San Gimignano and Pietra Santa which made for a great day out.

Make sure when you book that the deck chairs on the beach are included daily for you, otherwise it will be quite expensive for you to go on the beach! And also, wearing a swimming cap is compulsory for everyone in the pools!!!

We would recommend this hotel and location.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the sea with a balcony!

A classy hotel with some of the best food I’ve ever eaten in many trips to Italy (and anywhere else in the world come to think about it!). A well run hotel with polite and helpful staff. Location is a little bit deceptive from the brochure, it’s not on the front but there are sea view rooms. But don’t let that worry you; it’s a first class hotel. Would go back tomorrow!
