“Special treatment for Groupon?”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2013

Having eaten in the restaurant Sergio 1950 with a Groupon coupon, I can only ask myself what these places hope to gain by offering such bad treatment. How can they possibly hope to get good publicity.
Ok, in ten people we paid about 22 euro per person and probably that was the value of what we ate, However, the coupon gave an estimate of 340 euros for 4 people, and indicated the restaurant as a 'Due Forchette' Michelin.
The menu was completely different from the coupon, the appetizer miserable, the starter quite good quality, very small portions for the main course and the dessert depending on the choice from very poor to good.
The service was very poor for a quality restaurant, in particular the wine which was supposed to accompany each course was served when we'd finished but the and when I asked the waiter I was told to wait because I still had some wine in my glass! The grand final was 'Dolce abbinato ad un calice di Moscato', served after the dessert in a shot glass from Ikea!! Such Class!

We booked this hotel for our last night in Italy after having visited several beautiful spots in central Italy. The photos of the hotel looked very attractive, but it is nothing like the actual rooms!

The rooms and the whole corridor on the first floor smelled terrible, almost like you're sleeping in a smudgy pack of cigarettes. Also, the rooms were very tiny, terribly poor-lit, very stuffy, old-fashioned and most things did not work properly (doors were hard to open and close, tv and airconditioning did not work, faucet made a loud noise, some lights were broken etc.).
We also found some trash of previous visitors in the drawers (list of groceries, train schedules, candy), so it felt kind of dirty..

The dinner at the hotel restaurant was also disappointing. Very pretentious, but lower quality and higher price than any surrounding restaurant. Lamb was ordered medium, entrecote steak well-done (repeated it clearly twice to make sure they got it right), but we got it the other way around, and the entrecote was not even medium, but just really bloody raw. Did not stay for dessert nor coffee, because it was just too noisy with screaming babies and a drunk company party.

Staff lacked hospitality, did not make the customer feel welcome, and forgot to mention all the usual hotel stuff (check out time, breakfast times and possibilities, wifi- and all other facilities), so we had to ask for everything ourselves. We would never go back to this hotel and strongly recommend others to NOT book this hotel, as there are plenty of other, and definitly better ones in the region!

Room Tip: Book another hotel in the area if you can!

Nice big rooms, there is a some stile in the hotel. But: the rooms are dark even if you use all lamps. Wifi doesn't work at the 2d floor, and there are a lot of small things oestrogen work or damaged. Could be much better!

Friendly English speaking female receptionist showed us several rooms (we had no reservation). As we told her we intended to stay three nights she offered a weekend special including a dinner for two in the hotel's restaurant. Not cheap but affordable. We took a room on the first floor where all rooms are suites according to the hotel (it's a two story building) The ground floor has standard rooms. We don't think the name 'suite' is in place here. The rooms the hotel calls suites are large and have a nice terrace, but they are not suites. Views over the Lake Varese and surrounding villages and woods. Large garden with big swimming pool and ample sunbathing area. Only negative point is the noisy and busy road next to the garden (noise of motor cycles and big trucks to be heard in the rooms as well).
Very pleasant is the spacious wellness centre.
Restaurant staff not overly friendly but correct.
Business hotel but in summer quite suitable for tourists. Located between the beautiful Como and Maggiore Lakes, each at an approximately 45 minutes drive from the hotel.

My mother and I stayed in this hotel recently. The hotel is very nice, it is not very flash but tastefully decorated and comfortable. There are lots of facilities onsite like and indoor and outdoor swimming pool, and a small spa and gym. We eat at the hotels restaurant a couple of times and the food is excellent.

The best feature of the hotel is the staff, they were excellent. Each member of staff I spoke to was very friendly and helpful. The reception staff were outstanding, booking taxis for us, helping us to organise day trips and activities and generally helping with anything we needed.

Room Tip: Ask for a room which overlooks the swimming pool and lake.

We went with our 2 young children and stayed in a very big room which included a dining table, a very big bed with extra pillows and a lovely balcony facing the outdoor pool, unfortunately the hotel is situated near a busy road so although the balcony was nice, the noise was annoying (inside the room with the window shut it was just fine). The bathroom was big and clean, with deparate shower and bath. Breakfast was very good with lovely fresh produce and Parma ham 'on tap'. We had dinner at the hotel one night but I must say I wasn't impressed by the restaurant at all, just very average yet expensive. The pool was heated and there we never encountered more than 3 or 4 other guests using it at the same time. My biggest problem was the jacuzzi which smelled horrible, the water looked strange and we couldn't find anyone to take a look at it! The sauna was not working either, another disappointment. We also needed towels for the pool but there was no staff around to hand them over and none on display so we had to go back to our room to get our bath towels.... We found the staff was ok, but they won't go out of their way to help (we had to wait a long time before receiving fresh towels for instance). Internet stopped working on day 2 and until we left 2 days later, it still wasn't working. It was also difficult to control room temperature, the thermostat wasn't working. They could do much better if only they made a few changes and paid more attention to detail.
