“Quiet Beach Town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 29, 2013

Tropea is a wonderful little town to spend a few days. The beaches, the marvelous buildings on the cliff... very picturesque. There is not a lot to do here except spend time on the beach and eat at the restaurants. You can basically walk around the entire town in half a day. Very nice sunsets with the volcanic island of Stromboli in the background.

“Great for a short visit... but not stay too long!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2013

Tropea is a small town, dating from the middle ages. It has lot of lovely narrow alleys with dated buildings, lot of restaurants and gelati-cafés (Ice cream).
It´s still pretty much an original small town in itself and for me surprisingly there is not many people that speaks english. That is, You need to learn to understand som italian instead.
But it won´t take You many days see what´s worth in it, so if You don´t want to use the beach, which by the way is nice, You should not stay more than a few days.

Some things You must do:
- Walk through town centre and visit the Doumo
- visit Andrea Calzona in his shop "Prodotti Tipici" ( probably Via Indipendenza) with typical Calabrian specialities, including liquorice liqueur and powder, marmalades and vegetable mixtures
- dine at "Il Cantastorie" Via del Monte (an alley w entrance from Via Roma): great food and service, very affordable, and nice english speaking staff.

“Tropea”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2013

Amazing town, perched on the cliffs. Wander around and suddenly come across the most incredible views.

Take a boat trip and see how precariously it rests on the rocks. Don't eat at the main drag pizza restaurants - a real rip off. Instead wander about until you find a restaurant or cafe full of Italians - you'll be eating great food at a vastly reduced price.

Train station about 5 mins from town, downhill. Great markets on a Saturday, food market near station. Clothes, shoes, bags not too far away - but take water, it gets hot!!!

“Fantastic Place Truly Unspoilt Southern Italy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2013

For those looking for the last pieces of Southern Italy that have not been spoilt by mass tourism this is the ideal place. Wonderful laid back culture, fantastic food available, trips to interesting places available, can easily be kept busy and occupied for a couple of weeks. Fantastic views and excellent weather being right at the southern tip of Italy. Can't recommend highly enough for families and couples.
