“Not good :-(”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 25, 2011

The A/C was broken, their restaurant was closed, the restaurant that they gave us a chit for a discount dinner was closed. the hotel is on a very busy road with loud traffic (lots of motorcycles) well into the night... Couldn't close widows cuz no A/C. Room very tiny. Only positives: afternoon desk man very nice, nice beach across the street.

This was my second stay. A shuttle from the airport. Nice after a long flight.

This family-run hotel is a nice hotel to relax in a friendly atmosphere. When half-board is served the food is delicious and the service is good. The clean rooms are comfortable and well designed. The hotel's location very close to the sea makes it very attractive. It also has a nice garden and a shuttle service to the airport. We had a very nice stay at this hotel and would highly recommend it.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2010

Stayed for4 nights from 28th September 2010. The season was over, and all the bars and restaurants in the area were closed. The only one still open on the road into Tirrenia was "il Corrallo" an excellent family run business about 15 minutes walk away which stayed open all evening. There was a good bar serving food, even closer, on the same road, but heading towards Marina di Pisa, but it closed at 7 p.m.
The reason I opened with this info is that the Riviera Blu did not serve dinner during our stay, and no reference to this was made either by e-mail or on their website. The hotel is beautifully maintained, with friendly staff and a good continental breakfast. Although the hotel was full, nobody (apart from us) used the bar, so there was nobody about during the evening. The main road was quiet- during the season it would have been lined with parked cars and much noisier. We enjoyed a couple of sunny afternoons on the balcony looking out on to the garden and tree lined street. At this time of year it is possible to walk along the beach into Tirrenia or Marina di Pisa as all the beach franchises are closed. There were no taxis in the area, but 2 buses an hour between Livorno and Pisa. We read reviews on Trip Advisor that the hotel offerered a return transfer from Pisa Airport for €20, but this was for one way, albeit in a very nice Merc minibus with leather seats. The hotel has changed hands recently, so it could be that the info was out of date. Staying at this hotel at this time of year is a case of "swings and roundabouts". Very peaceful, but a long walk for dinner. We had one full day's torrential rain, and were pretty well trapped. We booked with an agency, but it would have been a little cheaper booking directly with the hotel. Their e-mail communication (apart from dinner info) is excellent. The location score in season would rate a 4.

We had read the favourable reviews before travelling, and were not disappointed. A small, family run hotel, spotlessly clean and with very helpful staff. Added to this was a more than adequate continental breakfast with a pot of boiling water and English Breakfast tea - what more could you want?!!
Unfortunately the hotel no longer provides evening meals, but we were recommended Il Cavaliere Nero restaurant which was excellent.
We would certainly recommend this hotel and hope to return, but would hire a car. We travelled by bus and train which was fine, but every time we went anywhere it entailed a half hour bus ride into Pisa - by the end of the week we knew every bump in the road! Nevertheless we went to Florence, Lucca, Viareggio, Forte dei Marmi and Pietrasanta (a beautiful little town) as well as Pisa. Bus and train travel is easy and most places are very well served, so all in all an excellent holiday.
